Ward- absolutely does nothing- ineffective, and a liability

Holland- Can't play anywhere consistently- makes too many errors, cant kick properly (bird drop)

Wheatley- seriously..worst 100 gamer ever

Ferguson- shouldve traded him for Brad Sewell end of 2005 when Hawthorn wanted him

4 players Daniher shouldve got rid of by now- Danihers weakness has been List Management

You'll find that it wasn't the Melbourne FD that stopped this happening.

i am up for trading one of either Green or Bruce..as well as those u mentioned

I agree with the four mentioned at the start. If we lose Green or Bruce (which would never happen thank God) I would be firmly off the bandwagon

Here's my list (drastic yes but the players at our club are the ones that do (or don't do) the business week in week out, year after year, the coaching staff should also go):

Cam Bruce - Butter soft and getting worse each year, skills departing him rated by many as one of our best players so probably has good trade value, lets trade him and try to get a genuine super star.

Wheatley - Delist, he's not AFL standard

Ward - Ditto

Ferguson - Cursed with injuries, not likely to make it as an AFL footballer, de-list or try to trade for a less injury prone backup KP defender.

Yze - Used to be my favorite player but can't stand him now. So soft and skills have been on the wane for years now. De-list to free up some salary cap to try and get in a Judd or a Pav.

Jamar - Trade-bait, PJ looks the better back up to Jeff. I just hope we can develop a long term replacement for Jeff from somewhere, Neaves?

Miller - God I almost forgot. This guy frustrates me more than any other MFC player. Just get rid of him for whatever we can get.

Brad Green - If ND stays on as coach (unlikely) then lets just cut our losses with Greeny and trade him. He's a great player but ND insists on turning a naturally gifted forward into a hapless tagger/midfielder/defender, so what's the point? Would have good trade value.

If we get a new coach, I'd love to see Green stay as I'm sure he'd be employed as a permanent FP playing out of the goal square where he'll become a 50+ goalkicker a season with ease. When he first started out I always predicted Green would be our version of Matthew Lloyd, oh how Daniher has screwed my vision.

Nathan Brown - De-list. Please drop Brown and play CJ for the rest of the year Daniher.

Those that are on the fringe in my eyes

TJ - skilful but so lackadazical (spelling?) and inconsistenet. Just frustrating to watch really, epitomises MFC. The only reason I'd keep him is because he can hit targets going inside F50 unlike most of our team, which is vital to the team's success.

Holland - Leave him on the list to take on the Gorillas like Richo, Gehrig, Lynch etc. but for the love of God, don't play him when we don't have a match up like yesterday.

What we need?

A superstar - eg. Fevola, Pavlich, Jonathon Brown, Judd, Ben Cousins, Daniel Kerr that can really tear a game apart or win it off his own boot. I'd use a combination of Bruce, Green, Miller and first round draft picks to secure such a deal.

More skill all over the ground - the skill level of our team is atrocious at the minute so we need to either draft in players that can hit targets more often than not or trade for them. This is probably the biggest weakness we have. I think our draft policy for this year and the next few should emphasise good skills and pace.

If Miller has market value (i think he may, being a 22 year old 194cm strong CHF) then we should definitely trade him.

he is a decent player who may become even better playing at another afl team, however i just feel he doesnt fit in well with our team structure.

if we got a late first rounder for him, (around 12-16) which is possible, id trade him forsure...

imagine picks 2, 12, 18, 20 and 36 next season. that bodes exciting time for our team!

Yeah I forgot about Byron, he's a waste of a spot on the list as well.

On a different tact I'm going to put a list of the untradable's on our list.

McLean

Jones

Robertson

Whelan

Rivers

Davey

Neitz

White

McDonald

Bate

Geez, I can't think of any others, a scary thought considering that nearly half of that list are in the twilight of their careers with no obvious step up replacements (possibly with the exception of McDonald). Worrying.

We do not knwo how strong our list is this year - they have not been on the park!!

The gameplan does not suit a team that shows a total lack of skill or goes to water when there is an ounce of pressure placed on them...

the number of times that we kicked the ball short of a team mate, over their head or even better - to their loose man in defence was taking 5 years off my life each and every time!!

ward and brown - can never fault their endeavour or run but their skills are not improving...

jeff white - usually a pretty good kick but....

we need players that can run and carry the ball but then know what to do with the red thing!!

A little harsh on Wheatley. He has had a shocking past 2 seasons because of injury and fitness, but he was instrumental in 02-04 imo.

For those calling me a clown, would you put your red and blue blinkers down for a second and look at reality? The honest to God truth is that Bruce while being a servicable footballer is just not the kind of player that sets a good example for the young brigade. He's a flake with increasingly poor disposal and poor decision making. Lets use him to trade for someone better, because I doubt any of you would dispute that there are better players out there than Cam Bruce. I'd rather have someone else on our team than Bruce, someone like Embley.

Yep, I agree. At his best, Wheats is a damaging player. It's funny how in a season of doom and gloom, some people just resort to dumping all of our players.

Yep Miller has to go. CHF along with CHB are the 2 key positions on the field. Miller will never be a decent CHF. He's easily pushed out of the way, and he doesn't kick that many goals.

He's barely up to AFL standard, let alone having him play one of the most important positions on the ground. If a decent trade comes up for him, i'd take it in a heart-beat.

I called you a clown for good reason. You call Bruce soft ... I hate to inform that he leads our tackle count for the year. Poor disposal ... yes this year it has been below par, but to single him out when the rest of the team is just as bad is pathetic. His decision making is sound, he played a near flawless game yesterday apart from the shanked kick to Johnstone that went on the full.

It's pointless even arguing .... Bruce will never leave the club regardless of what you think. The football department has more sense than that. I'm just thankful you dont run the department, or else we'd be left with no players.

Agreed. He is a ball magnet, granted, but he doesnt have enough impact on the game imo.

For example, so people don't jump all over me. He had the most possessions of any Melbourne player at three-quarter, yet we trailed, big. Last quarter, he played an identical game as he did earlier in the day, and we came back. How? Through the games of Jones and Bizzell. They led by example and brought has back. I don't think Bruce has done anything like that for about 3 or 4 seasons. Bruce is a good player, no doubt, but hardly a leader and hardly our best player. I'd have 10 players on this ahead of him in a flash, that's for sure.

I advocate a big clear out at MFC (because what's occured in the past 10 years is just inexcusable). Playing finals every second year (with the exception of the last 3) yo-yo form that's just unnacceptable. Change has to occur at the top, but ND isn't the only culprit. We have a cancerous core of players that are champagne on their day but lack the consistency to do it week in week out. They have become too comfortable at the club and should be cut loose before they spread the cancer to our up and coming core of future stars.

I thought Brucey did lead by example in that last qtr. His big pack mark and goal was leadership stuff.

I never disagreed that Wheats shouldnt be sacked at the end of the year, actually I think he will be, but to call him the worst 100 gamer ever is extremely harsh. He helped hold up out backline with Rivers and Whelan for a few years.

You don't even see the real reason why I advocate trading Bruce do you? He's a good player I don't argue that, but, he's no superstar and if we want to get a superstar here, we need to cut loose some good players at our club that have trade value in the eyes of the other 15 clubs in the comp. In my eyes, Cam Bruce fits this bill to a tee. Sorry if I didn't spell this out more clearly above.

P.S. I'm not a clown :)

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
