I don't think they recruited him as a ruck, more a fwd/ruck and and hopefully a back up.  I have a feeling he hasn't developed the way they would have hoped, his handful of games for Bris he looked OK without setting the world on fire.

Could be on our development or his work ethic, who knows

    The closest to this I can remember was a comment goody made in a presser in Weid's last year saying something to the effect that he needed to realise it was big boys footy. I read his fullarton comment as a frustration with our lack of a ready ruck backup on our list.

    If in the words of our coach, Fullerton couldnt win a ruck contest, WHY draft him?  We could have kept a Harmes or Jordan on the list and been no worse off in the ruck as the bloke we drafted to be a back up for Max cant ruck

    A real simple question . why draft him, didnt we look at his previous games at bris.

    Also as I recall we gave him two years, for a ruckman who cant ruck.

    I don’t think his fitness is a problem anymore. He seems to be moving much better this year and the injury issues are largely behind him. He dominated the SA u18 comp as a 15-16 year old but then had 2 1/2 years of osteitis and back issues.

    I think he also won the highest jump at the combine (with Weddle). But just leaping in the ruck doesn’t work when they can just push you away - it’s all about strength at the moment. Until they change the rules again.

    Surely Goodwin can't do everything by myself?

    He needs to have some trust in others around him that they can do their due diligence?

    Do we have another Brodie Grundy Fiasco on our hands will Fullarton WILL he  request a trade and succeed elsewhere both  Goodwin and  Griffith have made terrible errors of Judgement with the past and I may add Clarrie,s no fan of either that is common knowledge amongst his friends hence rumours of him departing

    Too many mistakes have been made by both hopefully the FD will see this and act accordingly.

    I loved David Schwarz as a player, and met him a few years ago and he seemed like a very nice bloke.

     

    BUT he has become a bit bitter and twisted, and far too critical.

    I wouldn’t have played Petty. He has already shown he is not a Ruckman, he has also had multiple foot injuries 

    So I would have played Fullarton and just told him to crack in. 
     

    I agreed with David’s comments. It was pure arrogance to think we could go in against Jackson and Darcy with Petty

    You never know why decisions are made unless you're in the room...we are all guessing and as I've said before I would have selected Grundy like most of us but who knows the extenuating circumstances.

    This is true but Goody-bashers be Goody-bashing regardless. When the lights went out at the Gabba last season that was Goody’s fault too.

    No i disagree. Petty is not a Ruckman, who has a history of foot injuries. 
    i am sure Fullarton could also take a few marks around the ground. 
    he has played 19 games, that’s almost a Season worth. 
    It was a complete balls up that backfired completely 

    Freo have beaten us by 142 points this year….

    Some of the younger players I know were scared of going back into the club after the West Coast performance. 

    I reckon the players have had a few rockets this season.

    We need our onfield leaders to stand up. Missing Gus, Max and Trac has meant it's fallen all on Viney, May and Lever.

    We must further develop an ability (all game) to run in waves, each side of the centreline end-to-end, with overlaps and creating both carriage and receiving options going forward, with those forwards leading to space, artfully, both sides. That is what cruelled us against against Freo, 'sharing the run' and 'receive'. When we did overlap - too infrequently - we we killing them, nearly each time. Only luck (for Freo) occasionally interceded. Coaching 101.

    Around ground marking is important but that wasn't Petty's main role on the day.

    He started off as the 1st ruck and failed miserably.   We then had to throw JVR in in the hope he might offer more resistance.  That didn't work either.

    Same happened the week before with JVR coming in to replace Petty early after Petty got wacked in the first Q but luckily the whole day become a contested shiite fest where we were able to wrestle the game back on our terms at ground level with the rain largely making much of any attempted ruck work / craft by Draper ineffectual.

Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos.     • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

      Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

    • REPORT: West Coast

      On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
