I know this will fall on deaf ears right now, but that was a cracking game. Both teams had so many missed opportunities.

We had so many young players, we were always going to fade late.

Disappointed with the result but proud of the team. Lots to work on though and a few clear gaps still in the list.

Vent away demonlanders!

Hear, hear!

Real possibility now that we could finish 12th or 13th and below the Suns. Does this mean we will receive pick 6 or 7 given that there would be no academy concessions ahead of us?

We got our identity back tonight. We beat them in clearance 40 to 36. Smashed them 14 to 7 centre clearance. Smashed them by 24 in contested possession. We had 18 more tackles. That was the best we have played in a long time imo.

This is what I thought too. Whilst we don’t get the result we all wanted, I thought we played with great intensity and physicality for the first time in weeks

Clarrys quick hands were back

viney the bull was back

maxs tap work was back

Viney, chandler, kozzie and clarry - 27 tackles combined

Kolt getting in zorkos face all night - loved it

I hated losing but was glad to see some of the demon dna back on show tonight

Flicking the switch from attacking to safe mode plays with players' heada at tines. I'm not surprised we saw some dumb mistakes in the final quarter.

Instinct becomes at odds with instruction and you end up defaulting to dumb [censored].

Listening to Goodwin in the after game pressers over the years. Dour, uninspiring summations and never takes ownership. I reckon he has mastered the art of sublinally blaming the players without actually coming out and blaming them. We always need to "work harder".

Tonight he said we played too safe in the final quarter. Doesn't elaborate on why though. Leaves us to assume it was player error even though he likely directed that [censored]. Bit of a sly communicator at tines.

We have a lot of young and inexperienced players when the pressure rises many go into their shells and play the safe option. They stop taking risks

Luv how we look at what picks we may get, why do we continue to accept the missed opportunity & under performing of this club who should have won another flag

There were good signs to take out of the game for sure. We won the tackle count by 17 which shows intensity, which is an attitude thing.

Having seen the replay of Nibbler’s try, I have a totally different perspective. Initially I thought it looked like a dumb deliberate that wasn’t disguised well at all, but now I see how Joe got him off balance and he couldn’t do much else with the ball.

What can you say...

Missing those easy, yes easy set shots came back to bite us.  As a whole the pressure and effort was what we wanted all night.  But gee, Petty and Langdon, but more Petty as he is a key forward.   Take some bloody goal kicking lesson and practice.

Is the Petty fwd experiment finished?

Surely if Melksham can start next game we can send Petty back to his natural position?

5 Contested Marks, just flip him to the other end.

Yep we're better with Petty back and Tmac forward

Not much that can be done now. Our percentage is too low.

Petracca is out. And we still don't have the best fwd line.

I think we should keep playing the kids as much as possible, and start to think the strategy and selection for next year.

But I think our window has passed

The 2021 windows yes.

Are we capable of opening the 2026 window?

That may have been the intimation from Goodwin but surely he should have anticipated that and encouraged the group to keep going.

Positive mistakes are better than defensive/negative mistakes as long as you continue to pressure the opposition.

Given our defensive game style in general it's hard not to be sceptical.

Despite my rant with a few aspects there were genuinely some good things to take out of the game.

Surprised by the negativity. Sure, we should have won, and we made some poor errors in the last. But, geez, up against it. A team of mostly kids. Inexperienced. Hostile environment. Insipid umpires all night. We can to a halt. Simple.

the moment we really lost it was when AMW had the ball at half back, and didn’t know what to do. Had Viney screaming at it on the inside..but blasted it down the line. That’s just a kid in his first game. He’d done plenty of good things. Sadly, the inability to retain possession in that moment hurt and the tide turned.

ANB should be disappointed in himself. He panicked under pressure. He should have handballed up the line along the deck. He had two men standing there. At worst it was going to go out of play, at best we actually would have taken possession and kicked it fifty metres back up the line. Hindsight is wonderful.

we saw Oliver back to his almost best. Viney was in full beast mode. JVR was great at times. Kozzy lit it up. The game-style was back. Now f..king build on it Dees and smash West Coast at the G. We need to roll on and win a few and see where the season may land for us. We have been up against it since preseason. We aren’t done yet. We showed that tonight.

Also tired of watching the leaders in the backline bickering and finger pointing whenever a goal is kicked.

I don’t mind that. We’d be a far lesser team without Lever and May, so if bickering is what makes them tick, please keep ticking on.

Good improvement tonight but still struggling to kick goals, betting on expected score we loose by a fair margin so the scoreline is probably a little flattering

Big lift from Clarry tonight.

Still absolutely livid with anger that we lost!

The Demons players literally [censored] the bed against the Lions after half time.

Another goalless last quarter was humiliating too!

Did better than I expected. Great 2nd quarter but not sure why we couldn’t continue on with it in 3Q. Had them one the ropes and they were struggling.

Was it fitness? Mind set? Who knows.

I am peeved we lost that game as yet again andır the 2nd time we have been cheated by umpiring decisions. And that is what stings.

Team played with a bit more energy and I hope they can take that confidence forward and really give it to WC next week.

I’m so proud of our boys. They looked an entirely different side to the one we’ve seen of late. The effort was immense.

Considering that right up ‘til the first bounce a lot of folks thought a five-goal loss would be a win of sorts, we should be more than pleased with tonight’s performance. I know I am. The result… no. The effort and determination… totally.

PS I hate Brisbane fans with an unhealthy passion. They’re the most ungracious smug bastards after a win. Port and Collingwood fans are downright feral but there’s something about Lions fans that makes me wanna burn the ‘Gabba down.

Anyways the $1.70 I made by betting on Brisbane should ease the pain of that loss 😭

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
