Great size to him and explosiveness.

Looks like the kind of player Taylor loves

Anyone know when Alex Davies and Angus Sheldrick are out of contract? Two young kids stuck in the queue at Suns and Swans who could be worth a punt at the right price (and would be better than any mids we have coming through at Casey…)

Davies 2024

Sheldrick 2025

Davies is a tackler but doesn't seem to do much else

There are some other vids showing more of his inside work. Loves a strong tackle if he can't win it.

there's absolutely no way we should be giving up our first pick in the draft for Houston. Future first or no deal imo.

Lalor looks a talent - just 8 disposals though ?

I might be on my own here but I would be very nervous about giving up a future first. The way we are tracking it could be a better pick than this year.

No loss, kicking and hand balling rates very badly, panic merchant.

I can only see that he's rubbing his tackle in that blokes noggin

BPA's 2024 off-season wish list:

* Houston (PA) - mid to late first 2024

* Cumming (GWS) - FA

* Wright (ESS) - 2024 3rd round pick

* x2 top 20 picks in the 2024 draft (split pick 6 or 7 with Freo, trade one for Houston and then somehow convert our future 1st into the first round in 2024, be open for trading a player to get it done)

* nicking intellectual property from @Ted Lasso, if Indigenous players give their sign off (yes, important) and Lever, I'd be open to Taylor Walker too. Free agent, two year deal, one likely at VFL as forward development coach.

Best 22 for 2025 becomes:

Bowey May Lever

Cumming TMac Houston

Windsor Oliver Langdon

Trac Walker ANB

Koz JVR Petty

Max Rivers McVee

Salem Wright Viney Fritta

Sub and depth comes from Turner, Spargo, Chandler, Sparrow, Howes, AMW, Kolt, McAdam, Melksham and x2 2024 first rounders.

I'd hope our first rounders would be plug and plays, but if not they'll be depth in the first year.

If Walker isn't a goer then Turner comes into the 22. I reckon Turner has great attributes to be an excellent mobile CHF.

If TMac doesn't go around again and we land all these guys, Petty takes TMac's spot.

Plenty of ifs at this stage. We'll know more in the next few weeks RE TMac and Melksham.

Who are you willing to trade to get it done that you think has the realistic value to make this happen?

Sparrow or Chandler, although I don't like writing that on a public forum, where I want to be supportive of Melbourne players.

They're both young South Aussies, so I think a player like that may lessen our outgoing pick.

Houston is a good player, but he's a role player. That's what we'd be offering.

Farrell, for example, is a more important player to Port's back half because his kicking is even better than Houston's IMO.

Houston would be great for us though. As would Cumming.

I love Milkshake. He's given me so much joy  and I'm in awe he came back from an ACL but he's Obi Wan Kenobi here  Strike him down and he'll be more powerful than you can possibly imagine as a forward coach.

Tmac gets another year.  He is in the top half of defenders in the AFL. Not the bottom.   We need to turn over a lot of our list, so splitting the pick makes a bit of sense. Bit grumpy we've lost our second and third for zero return.

I hope port win the flag this year, maybe they'll be a bit more receptive to trading Houston for a late first round pick but I'm not sure it works like that :)

There is no world I see where either of them net you a top 20 pick or close to.

Sorry, should have been clearer. We wouldn't need to offload a first rounder for Houston, if we packaged one of those guys with a 2nd, for example...

I can cop the Houston stuff if we're topping up & getting guys like Macrae and Peter Wright for cents on the dollar - not necessarily saying these guys but you get the point - established players who will slot into the best 22

Houston in isolation (for the rumoured cost) with the uncertainty surrounding Clarry and the like would be nuts

One that hasn't been mentioned much, maybe for good reason given his durability issues, is Changkuoth Jiath (CJ) from the Hawks - out of contract this year

A good runner, but IMO a turnover merchant of the Sam Frost school of chaos.

Yeah, @adonski, if our TPP can afford it, I'd take Macrae.

We finally get rid of all the old broken down or ordinary tall forwards and you go get 2 more?

And you expect ANB and Koz to do the work of 5 players being the midfield and running depth as well as pressure forwards?

I mean, maybe if we sign David Teague we can attempt to score 150 a week and win by a goal?

Not sure where we are finding the money to pay Houston and Cumming without giving anything up either. Nor am I sure who’s playing back pocket out of that group. Hard to convince Cumming to come and play back pocket each week.

Houston’s a better kick because he’s steadier than Farrell and just a much better overall player. I wouldn’t call a high possession winner with an intercept marking/all round game and designated kicker a role player. If that’s a role player then who besides key talls and mids isnt?

Port have Sparrow and Chandler level players, most teams do. They’re worth more to us than anyone else. Durable, prime age guys who crack in every week, even if they’re both fringes of a very good side.

We should offer them someone of quality in a role they don’t have. Given Georgiades probably has to play key tall they do miss a 3rd tall and I doubt they want to leave JHF there as they did last night. They bought on Watts, they’d be the perfect suckers to bite on Fritsch.

A future first and Fritsch for Houston and steak knives would be lovely.

Personally I'd rather not trade our leading goal scorer for the last 5 seasons!

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
