I wasn’t sure if I’m allowed to post since I was given an ultimatum from Pickett Fence, (I wasn’t aware Andy had promoted him to mod status🤷‍♀️)… sing like a canary or don’t bother posting. I decided I don’t like either of those options.

Anyways, despite the glorious winter sunshine I don’t expect there’ll be many supporters here today. Partly because it’s following a huge loss, but mainly because they’ll likely think training has been relocated, same as it was after the Eagles loss.

I’ll be watching from a distance today for obvious reasons, therefore let’s set the training report bar reeaaallll low… like, so low that we’re all tripping over it.

I lied. The sun’s disappeared and massive dark grey clouds are rolling in. I just felt a few little drops of rain.

Good news: I have an awesome MFC umbrella

Bad news: it’s at home

Judging by Kolt's social media, Mr Kentfield will be making an appearance today.

Sesto, Will V and Jeffo are out there. I just spotted Luker. Huge solid “kid” wearing #44 They’ve only just started training yet he looks like he’s been with the boys for years.

Hopefully we drafted him for this game

The mood is really good. Ricky is doing high-knee jogging exercises. Now he’s running around the boundary. Running not jogging. Roo is getting one-on-one training. Pup Brown in rehab. Max and Tmac and BBB are training separately from the others. I’ve been reliably informed they’re in loading training mode

This should spice things up even more around here, good work WCW.

Thanks WCW I know this is a bit cheeky but would you mind asking JVR and when you meet Luker - What is your actual height? Thanks in advance and thank you for turning up today very commendable.

Is that all the squad or just Max, Tmac and BB?

Hopefully JVR can come up for this week. He is very important to our structure.

Sounds like how our season is playing out 🥲

Training has finished. It was short but intense. Not a mouth guard in sight, which will no doubt disappoint some on here. 😁

Kolt introduced me to Luker. He’s a lovely kid. Humble af, polite and well-spoken. Is loving Victoria, and just like Kolt has promised me the go home factor won’t ever be a thing. Luker doesn’t have a nickname as yet but at Subi his nickname was “Duck” the origin of which is “a long and boring story.” His name is his maternal grandmother’s maiden name and his mum “grabbed it” as a first name when he was born.

I also had a chat with Goody. We talked about how awesome our new kids are and how quickly they’re fitting in and how grounded they are.

I just saw this DZ. I chatted to both these boys but should’ve read this first. I’ll defs ask them next time. Not sure what good that’ll do though, I once asked KFW his height and he said he was last measured three years ago! 😅

Just those three. Rooey was training separately on his own.

I sincerely hope so… it didn’t rain, the dark clouds were replaced by fluffy white ones and it’s mild and pleasant. Looks like it’s gonna be a really nice day after all. So yeah, I sincerely do hope so.

Asking for a mate, were any of the boys carrying backpacks full of bricks?

*only joking*

#with a sprinkle of seriousness

I think you’re the one carrying a backpack full of something but it ain’t bricks.

Popped down to training, but must have got there late. Just saw Witches Hats- some wearing bibs and some without..

It will give us something the quack about, based on impressions so far.

• Rick Lever was running 1/2 laps. Running, not jogging, went at a good click. Looking like recovery is going well.

• JVR & Kynan Brown were doing separate training away from group. Both looked pretty solid, just management I’d say, too early to call on JVR.

• Max, BBB, T Mac all on load-management shift ( taking care if older boys). Max was in high spirits, such a good leader. They were joined by Spargo, Hore & Schache

• Lukar Kentfield is a ripping looking kid. Had his first hit out. Big body, good size, moves well and good foot skills. Wearing the almighty #44.

• Had a good end-to-end ball movement session. Skills much better today, a few of them looked a little confused at times as to where they should be but most drills got one end to the other without missing targets.

• “NO MISTAKES” was yelled a few times by Choco Williams.

• Plenty of one-on-one chats by senior players with coaches and assistants. All seemed in good spirits. Vines and Goody spent a good 10mins going over a few things at end of training.

• Kossy and McAdam were doing goalkicking from boundary line. McAdam won comfortably. And yes, he had multiple shots OVER 35m comfortably. Think it’s just a confidence issue from his soft tissue injuries.

• Melksham looks really really sharp. Rest finishing, great footskills, said hello to the dozen fans that turned up. Ripping bloke, will be handy in 5-6 weeks I’d assume. All in all good spirits, no laughing or joking around, just focus and supporting players who nailed the drills etc. Pretty light workout overall, expected for post-match session.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

  • PREGAME: Brisbane

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
