Where's the pride?

A good team comes out and wins the last quarter.
We look like we’ve come out with all the enthusiasm of a contestant in a children’s pageant.

The Jackson goal in that quarter, I can’t remember that style of goal happening in the Goodwin era. Witches hats. Used to see it every quarter in the dark days. This is as bad as it gets. I’m sure olisik’s and poita’s fingers are warm.

This has so much "Neeld feel" about it.

Remember when you're highlight of a game was a good chase down tackle?

When you just had to be happy to watch a young bloke like Windsor bust his guts?

I've really got the Needs nostalgia going here

It's like a Trainwreck and I just can't seem to turn the tv off.

It annoys me that our injury list isnt too bad compared to other clubs yet we still cant manage to field a team that wants to compete.

This is hilarious reading the mania.. it’s genuinely cheered me up — knowing how silly supporters get (me inc many times I’m sure in the past) from one game! If you can’t see there’s something desp right about one side and wrong with the other then you’re either blind or delirious..

Lets see how many of these same names bob-back-up in a few wks saying “it was the turning point” or it was “an outlier” result..

Sure, I may be 💯 wrong but this team right here has proven over and over they’re made of the right stuff and jumping-off to me seems to be the antithesis of an erudite Demon fan.

Its awful, my 10yr old footy nut daughter — who is someone that lives and breathes footy (playing/supporting) is an absolute mess right now as she’s never seen this, has no reference for it at ALL.. So I’ll be dammed if I’m gonna encourage her to be a fire-weather supporter! Not saying anyone here is, but I’m saying we have a choice to go we react & im choosing to trust this group as that’s what their history has proven!

Mate, with all due respect.

What has this team shown you since the start of the season to have any hopes that they can even win a final?

Wasn't it enough to see us smashed by Sydney, Brisbane, Carlton and West Coast? Now Fremantle...

Please let me know what you are taking, cause right now I need an overdose of that.

Too muxh to ask Judd McVee to just provide a body on Walters?

Has absolutely cleaned him up today.

Completely beaten.

So many kicks and handballs falling short of the target it is comical. Turnovers or lost contests everywhere and then holes all over the place for the opposition to come through.

I've not seen us that flustered and all-round ineffective in four years.

Clearly at the moment we are wildly up and down each week and the up isn't as up as the down is down.

For all that the result has been just about decided already, this second half is an important one for the mentality of the club.

3 of our worst games since Goodwin started have been this season, today, lions and wc, mix in a number of slow starts that point to issues. I’ve said all year we aren’t a contender we need to at least make something of the remaining season and learn who on the list will take us fwd, no point putting more games into petty, mcadam billings, hunter. Oliver also needs to be spelled and get his body right and if not traded out for what we can get

Gotta say... love the posivity..especially on a day we're  positively rubbish.

But... some of what you suggest has foundation...  unfortunately I think there's  'trouble at mill'

The only bouncing back from this game will be of the dead cat variety.

Much needs doing.  But that only creates more questions in my thinking.

No, no, you’re wrong there. I was at that game. Much more commitment shown that day.

Still, it presents an opportunity for those at Casey who are pressing for senior selection.

Oh, wait …

How about Confidence, Running-legs, Jolt-up-the-wazoo, JVR, Lever (after the bye), Laurie, Billings, Kolt, Hore (post-bye), Billings, Seston, Jeffo & AMW?!?!?!

Nick-off - your pain doesn’t get abated by being sarcastically-dissident when it’s hailing! You’re better than that I’m sure of it mate. If it happens again next week, and after bye, sure I’ll worry the years a write-off — But then I’ll trust JT and Goody whom won is a FLAG for the first time since 1964!!!!!!

Other then reading this complete and utter dribble what example of this club has proven to you they can be trusted other then bring knocked out in straight sets 2 years in a row.

Get rid of the rosy red and blue glasses FCS, reality has hit us smack bang between the eyes today.

Yep like a bad dream gone worse

Fritta.  You passed it to them. They have the wrong colours

If you actually understand footy and know what to look for this isn't surprising.

List has been monumentally mismanaged since the flag and standards have been poor for a while now.

Club is arrogant, stubborn and to boot, dumb. We play players through injury, we don't reward form, we do reward mediocrity and the list management team have made a number of very soft calls.

All these little things add up.

21 is all we're seeing folks. I hate it and it makes me sad.

Yep, time to be ruthless.

This current era is now on its 8th season. Thanks for the memories, let's plan for the next 5 years.

Our ability to lift is beyond question...

We just lifted the Fockers into the 8

Bravo 👏 👏 👏

To be perfectly honest, I’m maddest about not getting Sharp— A player we had interest in prev & that fits our needs so well! Can’t blv we didn’t try to snag him but who knows maybe there were red-flags re health long term or something.. I can’t help but remiss what Jackson/Gawn would’ve become as well! But then I’m reminded Jackson as a fwd is <Turner!!!

I haven’t been embarrassed by a performance from this club for a long long time. I forgot how awful it feels.

What a shame. Playing hard in the last quarter to avoid a 100 point loss

You are putting this down to Loading

That’s one of our problems, Arrogance.

We have let A Grade Players walk and they have been replaced by below average discards…

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

  • NON-MFC: Round 08

Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road. Saturday kicks off with a pivotal clash for both sides asthe Bulldogs look to solidify their top-eight spot, while Port seeks to shake their pretender tag. Then the Crows will be looking to steady their topsy turvy season against a resurgent Blues looking to make it 4 wins on the trot. On Election Night a Blockbuster will see the ladder-leading Pies take on the Cats, who are keen to bounce back after a narrow loss. On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive. The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide. The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
