CASEY: Rd 06 vs Williamstown

Recommended Posts

Williamstown are a seriously strong team. 7 ex AFL listed players. Some very good VFL players in the team.  Fordham is one of the best VFL (non AFL listed) players. McLaughlin is a big in for them. Very tough game.  Casey (and Dees) eroded midfield depth hurts our chances.  At home, Casey can still win it but it’s more likely a Williamstown win outcome.

I’d do the opposite DD. I’d scatter the other talls  and make Jeffo the main man. I think he is being crowded out by the others. Give him the main role for a few games to see if he can step up.

Well the selectors have put him on the bench. Middle of last year I said he was looking like Lucas Cook & have seen nothing to change my mind.

I know the VFL fixture has been talked about at length, but it really is outrageous that this game is on Sunday when Melbourne play next Thursday night. The way the VFL is run is hopeless.

I’m guessing our emergencies from last night will be the “few” that we pull out of Casey today that Goody alluded to in his presser.

It is strange as I would have thought that clubs had a big say in the timing of matches. Saturday 11am would have been more logical.

KC ...could you please throw some light on how the VFL listed players train. Do they all attend or only the ones likely to play that week...thanks

Sandringham v North on Channel 7.

Thought we might have got the TV game. Watching via the website is not optimal but the universal coverage is probably the one big improvement in the VFL comp

Next weeks VFL game is 5:10pm Friday at Princes Park against Carlton. Might be worth a visit

Anyone know the current plan for McAdam? I know they want more minutes in to him, but I reckon he’s the missing part to our forward line.

I think he’s been stitched up by the VFL draw here.

Is it just me or is this ridiculous that any player picked from today has only four days rest?

No because realistically the only change they would make is Bowey for Billings.

You're not changing a team that's just knocked off the undefeated team unless you're getting your best players.

It’s still a crazy fixture and we absolutely should consider fresh legs. You can’t just ignore a 5 day break and the benefit fresh players have over sore tired players.

A fit Bowser for Woey would be very nice, just not sure if he’s ready off a long break.

And in an ideal world you’d get a bunch of fresh runners in on ever line. One or both of Billings and Windsor (purely due to his youth), maybe one of Chandler/Sparrow, perhaps JVR/Disco would be switched out with fresh legs.

Fullarton for JVR, Laurie starting for Billings would both make sense.

Hunter would be a possibility given the short break.

We didn't consider it for Adelaide game so we won't consider it for Carlton.

We've never been a team to rest and manage players off the back of 5 day breaks.

In saying all that I agree with you and would certainly like to bring in fresh players if need.

Definitely need to find a spot for Hunter in the sense of a position.

At the very least he has advantages as a sub

We’ve always been dumb and we will continue to be dumb is what that says to me.

BBB hasn’t had a kick since, Billings and Petty lost all confidence, not to mention the Oliver fiasco and Salem tore a hammy 3 seconds in to the Brisbane game.

There’s a good rest after Thursday and we’ve had plenty of rest the last few weeks, so it’s not exactly the same.

Is Fullarton at 100% worse than 80% JVR (he might be, but I’d consider the switch because I doubt it changes the outcome of the game and will protect JVR and possibly Max if Fullarton can hold up in the ruck as well as Petty with fresh legs at CHF).

I think we made an error against the Crows, particularly with Ben Brown.

Must say I don't understand BBB's program. We treat him with kid gloves at training yet we play him in meaningless VFL matches when we have way too many tall forwards at that level.

He needs fitness but at his level he doesn't really need match practice in the technical sense. You could get three amateur players to provide him with body on body practice for example

Well Goody did say McAdam wouldn’t be seen for a number of weeks in Friday’s presser.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
