Can’t argue against that…

I wasn’t having a go at you. I’m sorry if it sounded that way. It’s just so hard to watch a team who deserves to win but is denied a fair go. Free kicks 23-8. That alone is awful but Dixon in front of goal earlier this quarter amongst many other similarly bs frees just kills any enthusiasm. I can’t imagine how Saints supporters must be feeling.

Port was +21 CPs, +38 disposals yet +28 tackles, +7 inside 50s and +10 scoring shots. All while having half their side play the entire 4th quarter because they had no bench.

I don’t see “umpiring gifted Port”. I see Port being too good and St Kilda wasting a golden opportunity.

Oh no, you’re fine, absolutely no apology necessary 🙂 I was agreeing with you. I was only half watching to be honest but some of the frees were… interesting.

Playing the team they played in that year's Grand final this weekend too.

This is unwatchable. The umpiring is crippling what might’ve been a good match. It’s so unfair, I’m absolutely furious and I’m not even a Saints supporter. And the hardest part about it is that nothing will be done about it.

What did you think of the umpires on our game?

l thought we had as much good fortune as Port

Agree with you, except that the umpiring was clearly one way, to the extent that the commentary team were laughing about it. Soft goals to Port and soft frees to stop any Saints' charge.

I think the frees were 13-1 in 2nd half, before an out of bounds deliberate free was given to Saints, in the last 30 seconds.

But despite that, if the Saints were any good, they should have run Port off their feet in the last quarter and they failed badly.

A must read article for those who have an interest in football administration and finances. It's a relatively frank interview with Carlton CEO Brian Cook on the subject of non football income and in particular business support.

As a person who grew up in an era where more deals were made in the Carlton Social Club than in Collins Street it brings back memories.

Cmon Billy, if you want to be a trolling hero you have to do much better than that.

Or perhaps, Billy, don't be a hero.

Couple of things.....

Why are goal umpires no longer getting behind the flight of the ball as it comes in?  They are trying to make calls while standing in the middle of the goal area.  No way can they see if the ball is touched or over the point line from where they are cemented into the ground.  Or have the AFL issued an instruction to get more goal reviews, so that they can ensure the crypto ads are seen by all?

It wasn't just the frees paid it was the frees not paid to St.Kilda which were telling.  Front on contact in marking contests, holding the ball.  The over the boundary line mark which resulted in another Port goal at a critical point in the match.  It was just disgraceful.

Can CH7 just get rid of Luke Hodge as a commentator?  St.Kilda player slammed into the ground, and Hodge reckons he staged to get the free.  The inane post goal descriptions of what we can see with our own eyes each and every time.  Surely only bettered by the medical expert BT diagnosing a meniscus injury to Rowan Marshall, which is "better" than a PCL......spare me!

I can't remember.

Back in the day get woke, go broke was rhyming slang not a silly culture war slogan.

Yes, that gastro bout was a shocker. Very embarrassing at the TV week awards.

Oh, hold on, misread your post.

Luke Hodge is (unfortunately) here to stay. Why? Because Channel 7 clearly believe that being a former player automatically makes you a great commentator. End of qualification criteria.

It may’ve seemed that way, but only in comparison to what we’re used to.

interesting that he talks about investment funds being the next avenue for financial growth - dees got onto that VERY early thanks to chippendall and de crespigny, i think it was, recognising it as an avenue of growth that was outside the 'business of football'

helped by joe getting Bentleigh club etc. on the cheap and then mfc selling it at the top of the market to have the funds to invest obviously

Definitely.. In the USA foundations/investment funds are enormous.

We just have to resist the temptation to dip into capital as distinct from income.
Magpies have a decent investment fund as well

surprised i haven't seen much in the media about the mark paid to port in last qtr resulting in a goal

it had to be a metre over the line with plenty of umps having good vision of it

maybe there was a bit of media comment but i've not found any

Was that the Darcy Byrne-Jones one? First replay ball looked well out, second replay behind the goals showed it was in. Confusing.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
