No real difference to us on a 5 day break with no travel. I agree to a point. But with the way we play, in particular our incredibly aerobically taxing all team defence and the distances all players have to cover (10 plus ks minimum) backing up after only 5 days is very difficult. It's all about recovery, and even one less day than the oppo makes a big difference. They were clearly paddling in the last quarter, so were the crows, but I think we are fitter, which made a difference. Tracc talked post game about how hard they found it. I've been tracking the impact of the break between games for almost a decade for punting purposes. And there is no doubt when a team has to back up inside 7 days, and the oppo has an extra day break its a huge factor. It's something i always factor in. Edited April 6, 2024 by binman 5 2 1 2 Quote

We trust our players to win contest but if they don't we have players on the outside to sweat on the the oppo players. That per se would see us lose ground ball gets but be better off tactically Your point is correct except for the point there being , if you have the number outside the contest we need to be rewarded , which it doesn't appear to me as though we are. 1 Quote

If you look at the afl tracker, we consistently outwork (outrun) every team we play because we have to with our defensive system. Interestingly, the crows actually shaded us for work rate last week (both sides did a lot of high speed running - 39km v 40km which is way above average). For all the dismissive comments about the game, I thought it was our best performance this season because of how hard the crows worked. They got a lot of numbers to contests, won more ground balls, but we shut them down anyway with great system and pressure, and absolutely burnt them when we had it. Shots at goal from 58% of our forward 50 entries has to be our best effort for a long time. 5 Quote

DeeZone 10,590 Posted April 6, 2024 Posted April 6, 2024 Even though I thought Mayzies selection was a bit contentious and coming off a 5 day break I felt that we had the Crows measure and after watching the last half several times I feel we probably should have won by more. Ours was a total team effort, defence lead by Steven was excellent, pressure was immense, we have a tough, well drilled team that trusts each other. Tracc, Max, a banged up Clayton an ill Jack an improving Sparrow a feisty Kozzie backed up by Chin and ANB who received a lot of opposition attention were simply better. When you throw in our younger brigade the freakish Judd McVee, the electric Duke of Windsor, the tough unflinching JVR and the confidence building Blake Howes we have improved our team. Add in Rick, Riv, Salo, Lingers, Fritta, TMac, BB, Petty, Billings and an emerging Taj Woewodin we have a great spread of experience and youth. I loved that 3rd quarter where we won the game. 4 Quote

Like, aren't they trying to woo him? Or are they going for the whole treat them mean, keep them keen approach? Looking at the lists, God Bless JT, and from fond memories of Football Park, clearly it was a state game ... SA A. versus SA B. Obvious that the locals resented having to support the B team. Doesn't bode well for our Thursday clash against Carlton off a 5 day break in a few weeks (they get 6 days) 1 2 Quote

That's a pretty big upside as the pies blues game will be hyped all week in the lead up and both teams will smash each other. The other upside is we have a two week bye break a fortnight before the blues game (lions, two week break, tigers, cats, blues). And we do t do any travel from now till after the blues game (travel caj be a factor in terms of messing with the recovery and preparation program). So there won't be the same level of accumulative fatigue there otherwise would be. The blues by comparison had their bye after round two (but also do not travel before our game). And in the lead up to the dees clash they play, the crows, giants (at marvel), cats and pies. That's a tough run - four physical and intense games - particularly the last two. 1 Quote
