Jack Viney 200 Games

Recommended Posts

Heart & Soul red and blue demon for life, the kind of club man that comes along rarely (and we have had two with Viney & Brayshaw). The great thing about our game is having to execute finesse-touch skills under immense physical pressure. JV7 plays the tough footy we all love to see. And his best footy has been in the last 4 years.

Best 2 JV7 moments?

  1. When we got annihilated in his first season (can't recall the opponent), and at 18 yo gave the team a spray after the game. Speaks volumes about his natural character and leadership credentials even from a young age.
  2. In the 2021 GF, when he flew at Jack McCrae at the centre bounce and absolutely flattened him. The tone of the game weas set and he played in beast mode for the rest of the game.

Congratulations Jack, and thankyou.

The spiritual leader of the group and the toughest player in the entire league. What a club changer Jack has been. From his first game he set the tone for a new tougher more competitive Melbourne, and years later that's exactly what we became. Our midfield became the toughest in the league and has been for 4-5 years straight now. He's getting better with age too. Was unlucky not to be All Australian last year.

Best of luck in your 200th Jack. A true lifelong Demon who we all love and admire!

One man has made a career of being a tough as nails competitor, the other has made a career of ducking his head. Just ask him.

And he's a special comments clown on channel 7 now. So. Still ducking his head into a bag of footy cliches

Legend has it, that spray was after his first game, Round 1 vs Port Adelaide.

That debut is my go-to memory of Jack Viney.  A kid standing tall when all around him were wilting under pressure.  22 disposals and a goal whilst on the receiving end of a flogging.

Deserved the flag as much as anyone.

Congratulations on 200 games Jack!

A champion of the Melbourne Football Club. Just like his Father.

Both tough as nails!

Let's hope Jack Viney plays another 150+ games for the Melbourne Demons and wins a few more Premierships too!

On ya Jack! A true Demon! 😎👍🔴🔵👹

Like many, I can't get to the 200 in Adelaide so I will have to wait for the 300.

Considering he appears to be climbing back to career-best form and consistency, I feel confident. It is only 4 seasons.

Jack is the epitome of the tough, loyal and fair footballer. A perfect club man, and I don’t doubt the standard for fitness, dedication and sheer uncompromising game day approach that every player across the AFL tries to attain. He’s easy to undervalue of course because he’s just ‘there’, every game. And his footy now is the best it’s ever been. Taken with Max (and I don’t really separate them) as leaders of the team, it also makes all this questioning of culture seem frankly ridiculous. Well done JV7. You’re the total MFC package.

Thought Jack played a decent game for 200, probably wasn't at his absolute best, but I'm sure he did alot of hard in and under stuff that didn't really show through on TV.

One of the posters mentioned how Jack keeps improving - an area of his game that I think he has really improved from early in his career is his ability to navigate or burst through traffic.  Remember he had a stage where it seemed he was often trying to do too much an got caught holding the ball a fair bit.  Over time, he's really corrected this, I think through a combination of knowing when to release the ball to a team mate, but also sharper evasive skills and getting stronger and perhaps better technique to stand up in tackles and barge his way through (wounder if the Judo helps with this).  Put on a great example of his step and composure and disposal under pressure with his very handy goal in the third quarter in last night's game.

On another note, I've been looking at some of the post game stuff with Jack and it's mentioned how he had alot of family, uncles etc come over and watch him for the game.  One of the guys hovering around Todd in the background has a considerable likeness to Todd and I've been woundering if it is 'uncle Jay Viney' (a fairly handy player who made it into the red and blue for the MFC on a few occations.  When I talk footy with a professional connection I have over in Adelaide often tells me one of his claims to fame is that he played local or school footy with Jay and recalls him as being about the stongests, hardest guys he's every played with.

Also, looking a the photo of Todd with Jack after the game on the MFC socials - please someone buy the guy a hair brush and an iron!  Personal grooming not befitting of the great man, warrior and servant of the MFC.

So many threads and posts after a game like that, so sorry if this has already been observed:

Jacks goal, being from an apparent force field at the centre of a compass of 4 Port players, was pleasantly reminiscent of Tom Sparrow's 'Bang' 😋

(Could someone isolate and post Jack's?)

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res
