Supreme_Demon 4,141 Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Not even a fleeting whimper to avenge what happened to Angus Brayshaw by Brayden "The Thug" Maynard. The Melbourne Football Club was as soft as butter today. 5 Quote
Grr-owl 1,258 Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 From the outside the pain appeared to go unacknowledged. Surely some kind of something - name on the banner, speech.....something.... 1 Quote
Jaded No More 68,976 Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Perhaps the pain of the supporters is more pronounced than the pain of the club at the incident. We aren’t pragmatic, we are emotional. Players and coaches can’t afford to be. I would have been fine if we ignored him and won. But we [censored] the bed AND we were unnecessarily friendly to him. A kick in the guts to the supporters and most importantly to poor Gus. Hope he’s enjoying his trip and didn’t watch it! 8 Quote

Pipefitter 2,234 Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 (edited) How is it not 100% out of the cap? Seriously. What logic is there that we can’t replace a medically retired player entirely? Edited June 17, 2024 by Pipefitter 3 1 Quote

DeeZone 10,590 Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 The club should take the AFL to court, as we are effectively down 1 vg player for four years, that makes no sense.!!! 1 Quote

Fat Tony 5,337 Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 I think we will be able to shift money around if required and the impact is mostly in the cap for this year (when we played a man short on our list). 1 Quote

I am very interested to see how our club reacts to this idiotic decision, hell we expect to pay Gus in full but not from our player payments like having one hand tied behind your back. In that case Collingwood should have to share our burden.!!! 1 Quote
Little Goffy 14,963 Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Pretty impressive that a single Maynard bump can take a couple of million off a rival club's future salary cap. I think we can all see the missing piece of the puzzle is any application of culpability. Best solution I can think of is to create a fund which is supplied by a system of fines for clubs based on the frequency of injuries inflicted on opponents and on dangerous behvaiours. It also adds an element in between 'nothing to see here' and 'weeks of suspension' for the relatively minor dangerous acts on field. 2 Quote
