Yes it helps, but it doesn’t always work.

If I was holding a football, you could rightly say, “he looks like an old, bald, unfit man holding a football.”

hey! i resemble that remark!!

(minus the bald bit)

Disagree

Hore 27 and only got a spot coz seemingly we didn't have a clue what else to do with it

AMW and Howes do nice things at VFL level but have yet to prove to me they are consistent afl players.

Howes is a nice kick but defensive 1on1 ability, intercept marking, toughness, and burst/drive are all huge queries for mine

AMW is tough and can tackle but again i havent seen any linebreaking and has been fumbly in the 1s too, also doesnt get enough of it or in the right spots to use it like he does at Casey

Salo cant trust his body long term, Rivers is a mid which leaves Bowey (can't kick beyond 30m) and McVee (no notes)

Feel like we're actually really thin here, not as thin as the guts but not flush with options

How many games have ANW and Howes played?

Both in first season on field and have showed glimpses.   Another preseason and we would expect more to show, but very few burst straight in and stay in like McVee.

Strange. I always pictured you as an extremely short man wearing a cap and flamboyant clothes, but holding a small whip rather than a football.

#29 Ricky Mentha
Defender | 179cm | 04/09/2006

Stats: 20 disposals, 4 marks, 3 rebound 50s

Mentha has been recast as a defender during the back-end of the season and continued in that role over the weekend. He seems to have some of the spark and swagger of his bottom-age season back, with the Alice Springs native contesting the ball confidently and showcasing composure in possession. Mentha was involved in plenty of slow play across the backline and distributed the ball efficiently, while also repelling attacks with sharp intercepts and spurts of run.

Thanks DD36. Maybe we can develop Ricky Mentha and ANW as two small defenders in the next few years.   With Salem ageing and Riv earmarked for more time in the midfield, there will be a role there in the near future.

paul amy with a piece on ricky mentha...

https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/draft/gippsland-powers-ricky-mentha-on-verge-of-realising-afl-dream-with-melbourne/news-story/5263544c5e169d41dbb28dd5ceba0743

Gippsland Power dasher Ricky Mentha took a shine to “Kozzy’’ Pickett when he trained with Melbourne briefly last year.

Now the AFL draft aspirant is on the brink of being handed a chance to unite with Pickett and the Demons and live an AFL dream he formed in Alice Springs.

In what would be a historic move for the Demons, they are considering taking their Next Generation Academy member as a Category B rookie after watching his progress with Gippsland Power in the Coates Talent League in the past two years.

Mentha, 18, is from Alice Springs (part of Melbourne’s zone), where he represented the NT in under-age football and basketball.

Melbourne recruiting boss Jason Taylor first saw Mentha playing barefoot in an eight-a-side football game on a ground the size of a soccer pitch.

Oh I feel ill! Bowey is NQR. Good at VFL level end of story.

Hey WWSW: can you please clarify what the the historicity of the move is according to the Hun?

Is there any difference between an NGA and a Cat B? Moniz-Wakefield was an NGA, whilst Ralph is saying that Mentha will be a Cat B.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
