Straight Sets Simon was made to look very silly after he came back into the team and played well after the horrendous decision to drop him after the Collingwood game earlier in the year.

Holy Grail Goodwin finished the season in the top 4 on the back of this and other necessary decisions. Injuries to key forwards crippled us in the finals nothing else.

I think people forget that Melksham's spot was really a make up spot because of other injuries to KPF's

If we look at our preferred structure, 2 KPF's and a ruck/forward.

..If BBB is fit then we have 2 spots to fit him JVR and Petty for starters.

Plus a lot of pressure on for the small/medium forwards.

Interesting 2024 ahead.

Bbb is a wild card.

A fit a firing Bbb would make a world of difference but I feel he's a long shot. (Tmac even much longer).

Therefore playing Petty forward seems like a fait accompli. So Turner full-time is a good fit but is Tommo a better option?

Would love to see what Jefferson airplane can do but maybe he needs more time at Casey. Besides Max probably needs some help in Fullerton playing. Can Fullerton be a forward for us?

I'm not fully sold on Laurie as yet but here's hoping he has a stellar season.

I wish we had found a proven big forward to replace an aging Tmac and Bbb. We have to hope Petty' s body is up to the job. It will be exciting for sure if it is. He hasn't really had much time forward but the game when he kicked those six goals shows he could be the next dominant ff for us.

I have high hopes for Jvr this season too. He has come a long way in a short amount of time.

A lot to look forward to this season. I feel confident of playing finals again.

As someone else here said"...puerile..." comment re Goodwin.

Viney has the outlet kick with under a minute. He nails it we win.

He hits a blues player on the chest.

We lose. Game over.

Simon can't be out there kicking it.

Grow up and move on.

Silly me, I forgot Goody injured our forwards himself. Dontchya hate when your Coach does that. 🙄

I also forgot he refused to select a player who may (or may not) have made himself unavailable. No excuse though, right? Goody should’ve forced said player kicking and screaming onto the ground, right?

I also forgot he only won us one premiership and not three consecutive premierships, an easy peasy feat one would think, right?

Seems I’m super forgetful since I also forgot Goody oversees the score review system and is in fact the one who declared Tracc’s goal was touched vs Carlton.

The list goes on.

The Carlton game was annoying/frustrating to lose but the Pies game was the one that cost us. A KO'd Brayshaw and terrible kicking for goal (eg guys like Fritsch who usually never miss) cost us the game and possibly the flag. Had we scraped past Carlton we wouldn't have beaten Brisbane in the PF anyway.

How do we get rid of these [censored] trolls ?

Unfortunately, nothing we can do about them, DZ. I’m sure they’re slowly driving posters away, though.

Correct on both imo Dr G. Sums up the season but should have had more than 2 goals against the filth at half time also.

I suspect a lions prelim would have been a hiding to nothing. But at least it would have kept those 5 year olds in the media at bay

I’m not attacking him personally but the team discipline in that game was atrocious.  The week prior we got jumped by the Pies and wet our pants. We’ve now lost 4 finals in a row. We just missed a golden opportunity to win a flag and we all know how rare that opportunity is…..so yes I’m a bit cranky about watching the pie scum with our medals. We have a list that demands we play Preliminary finals as a pass mark. We now sit below that pass mark and he’s the Boss. I’m pretty sure he’d be the first to admit the last 2 games weren’t his best. Also it’s a footy forum, surely we can pot the coach occasionally!
Anyway you’re clearly a passionate supporter and I like that you go into bat for the team.

Pure comjecture here. I reckon we have had Brisvegas measure in the main in the last 3 seasons

When fit...

First you have to have a good list, then it needs to stay fit and on the park.

We only had one half of the equation at the end of the season.

...and to add to it, most of our injuries occurred in our weakest area of the ground where thy could be least afforded.

All good, RiF. I shouldn’t have quoted your post (which wasn’t terribly inflammatory) but I just couldn’t bring myself to quote another poster who one could say is a belligerent know-it-all and needs to find a hobby, or something to do other than trolling this forum and changing his username from one  childish and unfunny name to another just as childish and unfunny. I mean, I have a strong constitution, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t still some things that make me projectile vomit.

And yes, I do go in to bat for our players and our coach, and I’ll continue to do so forever, despite the fact that I shouldn’t have to on a [censored] Demons forum. 🙄

I've heard Plugger Mac and BBB are training the house down and slotting them from the hotdog stand. As usual, the HS is making it up as they go. Not me however.

You mean people whose opinions differ from ours? Like it or not, everyone can contribute.

You’re right. Except that’s not the case here. No, in this case it’s the name-calling, the relentless and repetitious bagging, the stubborn narrow-mindedness, the disrespectful treatment of our own. This is NOT simply a matter of someone having an opinion that differs.

What’s endlessly frustrating is that they aren’t breaching any DL rules and won’t be unless and until stupidity becomes the grounds on which someone can be banned. Until then, they’ll be called out on it.

Every. Single. Time.

No mate, not the ones that have different opinions.

I’m talking about the repetitive name-calling and same lame azz sub jokes from the ‘Straight Sets Simon’ brigade. These aren’t contributions whatsoever.

I think having differing opinions is one of the great things about footy and sport in general.

As others have pointed out however some of the name calling is puerile.

The thing I find most disappointing is those who don't really stand by their opinions with a solid reasoning.

They will throw things out there but don't back them up and/or come up with an alternative strategy.

This seems a common problem with society in general these days.

An uncluttered forward line is difficult these days. All teams flood numbers back. Sometimes as many as 30 players.

  • PREVIEW: Sydney

The two teams competing at the MCG on Sunday afternoon have each traversed a long and arduous path since their previous encounter on a sweltering March evening in Sydney a season and a half ago. Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
