Due to scheduling conflicts we have a change of date for the Podcast.

We will now air LIVE on Monday 11th December @ 8:30pm.

Please post any questions on the following topics.

The 2023 season, the trade and draft period, the 2024 fixture and the AFLW Season.

We won't delve too specifically into the 2024 season as we will leave that to the 2024 Preview Podcast in the new year.

Can you just skip the month September from the review? Was just starting to move on with my life again. :)

I think we are still top 4 material, hopefully not going to waste the double chance again.

if you were rating players , and then coaches, I would be interested to get your scorecards for them in 2023:

biggest contributors

biggest improvers

biggest let-down

most surprising match by a player (good or bad).

and how did you view the coaching panel in terms of performance?

Great to have you fellas back. It's been a long few months and the season didn't pan out the way we all hope. Looking back at another disastrous straight sets finals exit what do you think ultimately went wrong for us? Not so sure we can blame it on injuries like 2022. For me it was our poor delivery into our forward line and poor execution in front of the big sticks. If we don't fix these two things in 2024 we will not be making another preliminary final let alone a Grand Final or Flag.

Just wanted to thank you guys for another stellar season of podcasting. You took the show to another level and I really love that you open the discussion up to the audience via the questions and comments and I'm happy to have contributed to the conversation over the year. It's great to have you back even if it's just a little taste before the new season.

What did you guys make of our acquisitions over the trade period in terms of personnel. All seem to fill a certain role. Do you think any or all are a lock to play Round 1 or be a regular fixture in the side? Are we still a destination club?

Would love to get the panels thoughts on another Tim Lamb special with trading up in the draft order by trading picks 14, 27 and 35 for pick 11 (pick 13 on draft night)?

thanks for all of your efforts this season boys . i only found this podcast midway through the year but it became a staple for me each and every week .

i'm a little bit concerned about our straight sets exits over the past two seasons and i'm a little bit worried if we are still genuine contenders for the flag and i just hope we don't drop away from the pack .

are we still in the premiership window and are we in any danger of dropping out of finals contention in 2024 ?

Welcome back guys, albeit briefly. Really appreciate the podcasts during the season. It's evident that a lot of hard work and preparation goes into it so thanks for that.

In regards to our draft picks; What did you make of our selections in particular passing on Daniel Curtin and what are the panels thoughts on drafting for needs vs drafting for best available? Andy I know you asked Jason Taylor this exact question in your excellent interview with him but I'd love to hear what you guys think.

Wondering if you have had a good look at our fixture for 2024 and what are you thoughts? Thoughts on the Opening Round concept? The back to back Adelaide games? No Friday night games. Lots of travel. No Geelong.

I'll echo some others on here in thanking Andy, Binman and George for a great season for the podcast. Thanks for giving the listeners the chance to ask questions and contribute to the podcast. The interaction with the audience makes the podcast a really great companion piece to the Demonland website and community.

For my question - In the preseason at training and in the practice matches and then into the early season proper we saw a shift in the way the Dees moved the ball from defence and into attack. We saw the team take more risks in moving the ball through the middle as opposed to the around the wings/down the line strategy that worked well in the Premiership year but was perhaps becoming predictable. We also saw our kickout strategy change a little and rather than always kicking out to Max on the half back line we were first kicking short to a Hibberd or Salem and then going long or every now and again we'd telegraph a long kick into the guts.

As the year wore on though we stopped doing any of those new strategies and reverted back to the good old down the line and to a lead into the pocket.

Two questions; why did we revert back to that strategy and what changes do you think we need to do in regards to a strategy in 2024 in order to maintain success?

Good luck tonight boys, for some reason knowing this is on tonight brings back all the pain & angst I had from knowing that last goal was coming… but I remain optimistic about 2024 despite being crushed about that crazy 90s costing us a flag, likely will never get that one out of my head.

What changes are you most excited about? The Mcadam is flying talk, the Kolt39 hype? Fullarton looking sharp, Briwn fitness?

for me, it’s the Billings i50 entry work we’re already seeing. Might call in with my youngest, she’s 10 but already a bigger demon-maniac than dad. She’s LOVE to chat to you guys.

Either way, can’t wait to hear each of your voices & it warms the cockles knowing you’re back for a night!

CMON DEEEMONS 🔥🔥🔥

I've missed the podcast!  Hope you've enjoyed the well earned break and will continue to do so over the holiday period!

We've seen our recruitment aim to bring in some more speed (eg with our draftees, Windsor, Kolt, Brown) and foot skills / goal sense (eg with our trades, Billings, McAdam).  Do you think this will be reflected in our game plan (to become faster moving / enable some riskier conversions in our F50)? Or is this to supplement our team and assist with executing our current game plan (from 2023 later half of the season, not the 2023 preseason or earlier iterations in 2021 / 2022) better?

Do you think we will be hurt by our departures this season? In hindsight was the Brodie Grundy recruitment a mistake?

Great work again guys - so much appreciated.
How do you feel that our incoming players NB McAdam, Fullerton and maybe Billlings and Tholstrup will impact our forward transition and connection?   It has appeared to have been our biggest weakness 2022 & 2023.

Looking forward to listening tomorrow - was busy tonight.

Another fantastic pod to cap off a year of fantastic pods.  Thanks Andy, George and Bin.

Thank you Andy George and Bin for a great listen. Actually listened to the first half last week and finished it off last night. I agree 2023 was one that got away and that is why it burnt so much but as Goody said no good getting bitter and twisted, we must continue to get better than our opposition. I am now ready to move onto 2024.

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
