His kicking is poor. This isn't hard to see.

Right now, its on par with Jayden Hunt who was horrible by foot. Hopefully Windsor can I.prove on that.

I'm actually surprised how high he went in the draft. His kicking is really poor and we've seen time and time again how hard it is to turn a bad kick into a good kick.

Take a look at his form last year, he’s had an injury interrupted preseason, second year blues. He’ll be a 200 gamer, worth every cent

Agree, Windsor is having a poor season, which could be contributed somewhat to an interrupted preseason. Are we expecting too much from a second year player whose just turned 20?

To me, Windsor's kicking last year looked a strength, his kicks to advantage were excellent and he was one of the few regularly lowering his eyes i50. IMO the comparisons to Jayden Hunt are incorrect.

His year reflects second year blues (for want of a better term) from a guy in a team that is bottom 6 and all over the shop.

Put him in a top 4 team and we'd all be saying why did we pick Caddy instead of him?

The real crime is that Logan Morris, Joel Freijar and Darcy Wilson were not on our radar enough. We traded 14, 27 and 35 for pick 11 to get the Kolt. We could've got all three. Coulda, shoulda, woulda

Hmmmmm 🤔

Hyperbole as usual. Caleb is not a poor kick. Neither is he an elite kick. He's a decent kick who is a pretty bloody good kick for goal on the run.

He had an incredibly consistent first season and then has spent time learning a new role at the same time as battling injury.

Give him time.

I think Winsdor is a good 'find the target' with weighted kick but he's probably not going to spear drop punts onto chests like a knife.

The comparisons with Gulden are a bit harsh though. Probably the best field kick in the league by a stretch

I'm fine with where he was picked.

But I beg to differ about his kicking. It's poor in my opinion.

On effective disposal so far in his career hes rated as 'below average' thats including last year.

He has time on his hand but history will say it can be difficult to turn a poor kick into a good one.

His best attribute is reading the play, he's elite, and that's why they're playing him in defence.

It hasn't worked and that's fine. I'd be backing him in for a massive 2026

This is a major black mark on JT's record. Not enough has been said about it honestly.

Correction: Tim Lamb did that trade. They were probably targeting someone who went higher and got their intel wrong.

We’re turning on Caleb? Wow, that was quick.

Langford better get 4 extra possessions next year or he will be a plodder…

Honestly, look no further than our best players as to why we are where we are this year. Suspended to start the year, MIA, out of form, injured, returning from injury, one dimensional, and cannot kick straight in pressure situations.

Make your own matrix from the above but let’s give our young Ute some space.

We literally drafted him for his good kicking skill and run

Nah. Kicking skills were conspicuously absent in just about every media soundbite from the club. I don't think any draft watchers thought his kicking was anything above average and some said it was below average.

I really like what he did in his first season. I have high hopes still, but he's not a great kick.

I like Kolt a lot and think he could be a great mid/fwd type long term but this is looking like a bigger and bigger mistake by the club

Usually I’m all in favour of trading picks to get up the draft order but in hindsight we could have had Caleb Windsor, Darcy Wilson and Logan Morris in one draft 😭

Even if we didn’t want Wilson there’s every chance Kolt would’ve been there a few picks later anyway

That hurts!

I've never been one for trading up.

Just use the picks you have inside the top 30 and you get 2 players instead of one.

Langford is different gravy. If posters are turning on Windsor its because - at least this year - hes been a terrible kick. Turnover merchants frustrate posters. In terms of Windsor vs Caddy, ill leave that for the talent scouts. Caddy wasn't the only one on the board, Curtin looks quality.

Deriding Hunt like that is harsh. Hunt was a bloody good kick for goal and could do some good things on the burst as well. Take a look at that last few minutes of the game against Carlton a few years back when him, Kossie and Melky basically won us the game at the death.

Was pretty good Al round in his last year with us and would have been a premiership player bar injury a few games out from finals.

Im not deriding Hunt at all. I'm only speaking of what the reality and truth is and that is, Jayden Hunt was simply poor by foot. He had everyone you wanted in a modern footballer except he would butcher the footy coming out of defence, pure and simple

I liked Hunty more then anyone and thought he was the most unluckiest player in 2021. Had it not been for that ankle injury late, we'd be lauding him as a premiership player.

I have some fond memories of Jayden Hunt. This may be the fondest. Threw caution to the wind in the last quarter - his run and courage got us over the line.

I know we aren't going well atm, but I think we should all lay off Caleb Windsor.

He's a 2nd year player who was fantastic last year and is struggling a little his second year.... very common occurence.

Windsor's kicking isn't just poor, it's diabolical.

I blame the coaches, by moving him to half back, they've nullified all the exciting things he was doing lasty year and brought out the flaws and made them glaringly obvious.

Playing half back you have to be a good kick or we get slammed on the rebound. Running down the wing and kicking inside 50 you can at least set up for. (well good teams can)

Move him back to the midfield, the experiment has not worked.

They've taken one of the most exciting things about 2024 and turned it into a disaster - just like they've done with Rivers

Wow we were lauding how good his kicking was last year, but now he is DIABOLICAL !! . wow.

I assume his legs were replaced as all those good kicks are behind him now. Shame.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
