Can we still use pick 42?

K. Turner played 6 games for Casey and is 6 years younger than Declase was.

Not sure how many games Declase played for Casey.

With issues with Joel Smith that might help him.

We don't have to delist K.Turner, but Melksham has to become a rookie if we are going to use pick 42. He takes D.Smith's spot. We just won't have a pick to rookie K.Brown as I don't think he is worth pick 42.

Interesting interview with Tim Lamb saying we will only pick 2 players so we will have the maximum amount of rookies to the list as you can have. Sestan, Verrall, McVee, K.Turner and another 2 rookies with 2 b class rookies in Moniz-Wakefield and Farris-White.

Yes probably see Kye Turner delisted.  Can’t see him staying on given we would want to add 6,11 and Kynan Brown (use pick 42 to match if required) and a rookie.  Hopefully Billy Wilson as a rookie if he’s available.

I'd love Billy Wilson to come to Dee's, he is so under-rated.  A lot like Rivers who can carry the ball through the middle from half back and hit a leading target inside 50.  Even though he is under-rated, I still expect someone to pick him up by the end of 2nd round picks, and my sources say the Dee's haven't even interviewed him so he is not on our radar.

Turner was a weird selection at the time, and his injuries since haven't helped his case.

The club's website lists him as 193cm and 78kg - that is a long way off key position size and he will be 22 before the start of next season. How much size is he going to be able to put on in five months?

I'd certainly prefer to move him on, and have a list spot available for a draft slider.

I’d be shocked if he wasn’t at least mid 80kg last summer, possibly more, he’s not that skinny. His fitness and health will be more important than size. Aside from evaluating the available alternatives I think they’ll be monitoring his fitness, if his groins hold up I’d expect he’d get another go

Sorry Poita but we would have a Turnover of about 10/12 each Season if you were TL or JT. Your recent comment midweek involved about 4 players who you indicated would or should not be on our list ( Laurie is almost your go to whipping boy). He is contracted so give him the time ( yes 3 years and this year you say but count out the first year due to injury to be fair). Also we would have not kept Gawny or won our wonderful flag under your keep ‘‘em moving 2 year policy.

On this occasion I actually agree with you on retaining or not K. Turner but take deference to your 193cm as TOO short for a key position. If you have 2 others above that then it’s a third defender role in which we have Disco as a third banana. He played tall and marking is only one if his attributes. But it’s the 78 kegs that is damming if in fact true. Hardly even a flankers weight!!

BTW I think Laurie was good as Sub vs Hawks and Swans with his skills and ball involvement. But not so much in the fray of the QF vs Pies.

Also your views are so black and white and in a Club with 44 players there is grey very much involved. People or our players are our greatest asset and we need to be firm ( and a touch ruthless like with CLarry and Garry). A balance is needed or we will ruin our destination club reputation far too soon after all the good work in the last decade.

We will keep 42 because it is the answer to the ultimate question of life, the Universe and Everything!

As @Slartibartfast can attest.

Is Deep Thought pondering the Kye Turner conundrum too?

Vote yes for Kye Turner retention.

I make it that 42 comes all the way in to 41 on draft night.

Five Academy and F/S selections push it out: Walter, Read, Rogers (Suns), Croft (Dogs), McCabe (Hawks)

The Suns have 6 matching picks before 42 which will get eaten up but the Dogs and Hawks matching picks are all after 42, so it will come in by 6 picks.

42: out by 5, in by 6 - becomes 41

i hope we look at NGA Orlando Turner from NT like AMW as a rookie and Dogga Brown's boy.

If 42 is still in play, Dees might look at another young ruck option. Not sure he lasts through but imv we’d look at Taylor Goad.  Goad impressed in the national combine testing for a guy of his size.  Played SANFL South Adelaide (SA) under 18s and in the championships. Hes 206cms and at 90kg.  Hes really athletic for a big man who’s only just a few cms under the height of Mason Cox.  At the combine Goad's 20m sprint was a great result. He twice went under three seconds with a best 2.97.  He was also a key part of South Adelaide winning the under18s GF.

Why would we delist him, when he has been injured most of the season and hasn’t had the chance to show us his ability.

Because in the absence of better options, we deemed it worth offering the kid a chance. He hasn’t been able to take it, and now it has become a case of persevering with him now in the full knowledge of his injury circumstances, or offering that opportunity to kids who are more talented and/or able to convert that opportunity into a successful outcome. Sucks for K Turner, but thems the breaks.

If 42 is in play do you think we can go for Mannagh from Werribee? Can play in the midfield and forward and adds experience as he's 26 years old. I think going for a 3rd developing ruck is a bit much we already have Verrall and Farris-White.

I wouldn't mind drafting local lad Kade Delarue with a late or rookie pick. When I say local, I mean local to Casey!

Good sized mid/flanker. Has a yard of pace and is a good user, especially inside 50. Is the ultimate team player and overcame some injuries to be a solid performer in the Championships.

Father was an excellent player at Springvale and Dandenong.

Not sure if MFC will have a list spot to keep this pick live , or will simply pass or trade on somehow for a 2024 3rd round pick (eagles may perhaps be interested).

But if we did have “42” live, one player who impressed me throughout the national championships (and in the two Gippsland games I saw) was Wil Dawson.  Very composed tall defender. He was able to intercept or spoil and contested well man on man.  Has mobility and his 2nd efforts were very good. Decent kicking skills for a big man.

Dees might grab O’Sullivan or Murphy but if we go 2 mids at 6,11 then Dawson might be handy if we have this pick live.

Agree. I only saw his two games for Vic country but I  was impressed by him in those games which I believe were his first two games in defence. Good interceptor, quick for a big man and looked good one on one.
I hope with get a key defender this draft and if not Curtin or O'Sullivan then I’m hoping Dawson or Zakostelsky are available at our later pick.
Realistically the only way I see this happening is if we move up for pick 1,2 or 3 and improve 42 slightly.

James Jordon comp- end of 2nd round “42”

Cal says Melbourne's pick 42 going to St Kilda for a F3 2024

If Saints finish say 8th again , that’s about pick 52 after next years father son and academy picks.  Trading down to a future draft 🤔🤣😤🤡❤️😤🤡🤔hmmmmm?

I thought offer to Port for F2 2024. They need to get lower in this draft (!!!)

Yeah, I also wounder the logic of this move.

The only thing I can make of it is, that if we weren't going to use it this draft anyway, then perhaps it will have something is more than nothing currency next year in case we have an academy or F/S in play then.

Once again, WE DONT HAVE THE LIST SPOTS!

this pick was spoken for when we traded for Billings.

Funnily enough we gave them a future 3rd and got a F3 back for 42

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
