Maybe I am missing something, but if WCE are so keen on Curtin, why not just draft him with pick one?

Because Reid is a far superior player, even if he is a flight risk.

The question is, do West Coast prefer 2 top 11 picks, one of which could certainly be Curtin who are they are after, or do they prefer to take the risk on Reid with pick 1.

They want more for pick 1, hoping that they still can get Curtin at the traded pick.

Sounds to me that they are after 2 picks inside the top 6, one of which would be 2 or 3, so they can almost guarantee getting Curtin and another top 6 pick. In which case, North are the only ones who have the cards. I dont thin 6 and 11 will cut it, especially given they already rejected hawthorns 4 with candy

Where does the other pick inside the top 6 comes from?

North won’t trade 2 and 3

Yet no one knows if Reid or Curtain will be flight risks. Both have come out and poured water over such claims. In fact Curtain seemed to look forward to potentially living interstate, according to the interview I heard. Not all draftees want to live where they grew up.

I reckon the Reid/Curtain flight risk thing is a myth

Certainly not out of the question by the looks of things.

Can Rayner draft - pick 6 jaiden Stephenson and pick 11 aiden bonar

Matt Rowell draft pick 6 Fischer mcasey pick 11 sam Flanders

You don’t really know what your going to get

yeah some super drafts work out alright but I would rather have cam Rayner or Matt Rowell type player

True you never know what your going to get but in Rayner’s draft Noughton was pick 9, Oscar Allen pick 21 and Sam Taylor pick 28. And in Rowell’s draft Hayden Young pick 7, Serong pick 8, Pickett pick 12 and Will Day pick 13. I would much rather two of those over Rayner or Rowell.

Dunno. But if they knocked back 4, future first and Brockman, they ain’t talkin to us! Besides, Lamb has already said he is happy to take 6 and 11 to the draft. We are not getting Reid, fanciful to think we are.

Brockman was traded for a packet of peanuts because that’s all he’s worth. Like throwing McAdams in a trade for Petty.

There is nothing stopping us from trading 6, 11 and our future first for pick 1. West Coast need to start filling their list now. Two top 11 picks could be better for them than one plus a future first. Especially if they can get Curtin at 6 who is their main target by all reports.

I have a feeling O'Sullivan is going to be a star, but I think Reid will be too, so I'm happy with either.

Yeah maybe, and I hope you are right! Reid is an exceptional young player. But I just think North hold the cards with 5 picks in the first 18.

I am not against recruiting Reid because if the recruiters think he will be a gun then happy to go that way. Particularly with question marks over two of our best midfielders going into next year.  But I also think our list could really do with two top end players. All drafts are important but with where our list is at this one feels super important.

I personally don’t think WC will trade pic1. The convo gets brought up nearly every trade period and no club has traded it.

It does give the media something to babble on about when nothing much is happening though

U could knock me over with a feather if it happens.

But your just picking out players randomly could easily be no good too.

easy to look back 5 years later and say we should of picked that player.

take less risk out and take certainty’s, but I’m sure tim lamb and team r all over it.

GWS traded for it last year.

Norf like West Coast desperately need to regenerate their list. They need quality but they also really need quantity. We don’t.
If you believe Tim Lamb, there’s a significant drop off in quality after the first 12 or so players. It’s why I think North won’t want to give away 2 and 3, as it’s as good a hand as 1, and therefore the only chance West Coast have of having multiple picks inside that top 12 is to trade pick one with us.
Of course they may back themselves in and take pick 1 to the draft and take Reid and hope he doesn’t do a runner.

If I’m Brady Rawlings I’m keeping 2 and 3 unless West Coast will take a swap for 2 or 3 plus Zurharr for 1

Then I’m taking Reid and Mckercher. With Sheezel, LDU, Simpkin, Wardlaw and Phillips already in the midfield rotation Reid can cut his teeth in Year 1 as a forward and Mckercher can play more outside

Will WCE offer us their first pick 2024 on draft night if Curtin slides to P6 ?

Next years. I would take it in the blink of an eye. WCE are wooden spooners for at least the next two years.

This is not what we would do - we like fast tracking our restocking - this would be the opposite. We should just take Curtin and get more value for him later or just keep him. Same flight risk as JVR.

I am fine either way but 6, 11 and F1 is definitely what it will take. Imagine if this were the Dees -slide back from the best kid in the draft for ND11? Nah give me another first rounder please.

GWS traded 3,12 and F2 last year for it last year to get Cadman.

Essendon over paying for that spud McKay may cost us in the end

Yeh they always find a way to fudge things up.

I can't see West Coast giving away pick 1 for pick 6 and 11 the only way they will give it away is they get pick 2 and 3 for him. 2 quality players for 1 and I dont think they would be after Curtin that desperately. They can pick him up at no 1 if they did.

You have talked me into Curtin. He really looks like Mr. Versatile. Mid, key position, flank.

If we don't trade up for Reid, I would love to take Curtin and somehow trade up for O'Sullivan.

I wonder what it would take to get GWS's 5 or Cat's 7. Our 11 and F1st.

I would still even look at the Haynes GWS salary dump, if we could get their pick.

We could then trade 11 for a F1 from someone.

I don't see any of the other clubs with picks in the top 10 wanting to do a trade unless it was really unbalanced.

Losing our game with Freo is the one that stings the most.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
