What??? We have picks 6,11 and a future first. Please tell me which club will trump this?ย

Only 1 top 10 WA kid and that is curtin. No interstate club will take him assuming the go home factorย

But surely if North want Reid (which they do) they can make it known that they will draft Curtin with pick 3.ย  On the one hand that could be overs... but given they already have a lot of talented midfielders and would be getting another at pick 2, a utility like Curtin would be a good fit for them.

If WCE believe North might take Curtin at 2/3, then surely its curtins on your proposal above?

No interstate club will take curtin with such a high possibility that they will go home. Not worth the riskย

Rawlingsย was on Trade Radio basically conceded that a trade with West Coast was extremely unlikely to occur and they'll "move on". Sounds like they're not wanting to offer anything more than their previous offer of mid-to-late teens picks.

David King believes we will get P1.

While the Kangaroos are seen as West Coastโ€™s best suitor for Pick 1, rival clubs also believeย Melbourneย remains extremely keen on getting higher up the draft order โ€” either for Reid at Pick 1, orย Zane Duursmaย orย Nick Watsonย in the selections afterwards.

The Demons hold Picks 6 and 11, their own future first-round selection and two future second-rounders.

Dual premiership Kangaroo David King believes the Dees โ€“ who tried to trade up the draft order last year โ€“ are still in the mix for Pick 1.

โ€œI think Melbourne will find a way to sweeten and get it done with the picks theyโ€™ve got,โ€ King told Fox Footyโ€™sย Trading Day.

โ€œThat and maybe something else next year โ€“ maybe a future first-rounder โ€“ to get it done because theyโ€™re in the hit zone right now and North Melbourne need volume. I donโ€™t see the thirst to get rid of too many picks โ€ฆ I donโ€™t see why theyโ€™d be wanting to move too many of them on.โ€

A bargaining tactic? Surely theyโ€™d offer pick 3 and a couple of other selections if that would get them pick 1ย

Having said that, if I was them Iโ€™d just take picks 2 and 3 and get the best two available, so maybe thereโ€™s some truth in what heโ€™s saying ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I think that we're in a good position now with minimal positions to fill and two picks in the top 11.

There was an article a day or two ago speaking about how recruiters generally believe the top 15 picks (including the Academy/FS picks) are on a different level to the rest of the draft, with a big drop off happening after that initial group. I'm sure that we would be keen to trade further up into the pointy end of the draft however as it is we have 2 picks within that core group. Pick 14 wouldn't have had us in that group whilst 11 does, so I'm sure we'd be pretty comfortable taking 6 and 11 to the draft (far more that we would have with 6 and 14). That's probably the reason for the price difference between trading up to 14 vs trading up to pick 11.ย

If we can get one of the first couple of picks then great but I'm sure they'd be content with where they are now at 6 and 11 if that doesn't happen.

Trade radio reporting that Collingwood is Reidโ€™s preferred club. Yeah really. As if he gets to choose. Pies supporters will feel even more indulgent and born to rule than ever. ย Reading Side by Side does make you puke. They already are talking about BB and dynasty. We know how foolhardy that is.ย

Listening to Rawlings on Trade Radio, it definitely sounds as though the Roos on cooling with regard to trading for Pick 1.ย

We might see some further traction in this space.ย

Not quite. One of the clubs during a recent interview asked which 3 clubs would he like to play for? His response was the club who he was being interviewed by (he didn't specify the club), Geelong who he supports and Collingwood because of the crowds.

I'd say WC doesn't need to move it on until draft night with live trading (and try to force NM to do it). Obviously if they offer a good deal beforehand, they will/would as pick 2 and 1-2 late teen picks is pretty good too.

Otherwise, it may be Melbourne's offer is only considered on draft night (increasing pressure on us to offer more and more).ย

Does getting Reid solve our issues in foot skills and scoring. ย Or will at least 2 top 11 picks solve that? ย Not knowing who the club is considering its hard to weight up the 2 options.

My take on the clubs thinking is this... Putting all eggs into getting pick 1 basket, because if we acquire Harley Reid, he will be an automatic start in our midfield alongside Viney, Brayshaw, Clarry and co (yes assuming the latter 2 are back to full health). Then we can start Trac forward alongside Petty and JVR would make for a VERY dynamic forward line. That prospect certainly excites me and reckon if luck's on our side, we go all the way in '24.ย

Get it done Dees.

Thats the vibe Im getting DS

I think we will end up offering a best 22 player with a 10 yr career ahead for WC

I think we will retain pick 11 to pick up Darcy Wilson

I guess that would mean only 3 names, JVR, McVee and Rivers. Who would you put forward?

No one. Their preference is Curtin who will go further down. Multiple first round picks is a no brainer for them

I think that WC would value proven talent rather than multiple picks in a shallow draft. If you look at the previous trades where players have gone for multiple first round picks, WC will then be 2-3 years down the road with more speculative picks

Over and above any trading/ forward line up imaginingย

North Melbourne has 2, 3, 13, 17, 18 and early second rounders plus their future first, a 24 end of first round pick

If they want Harley Reid, they will get him

But unlike Melbourne they need to bring in a lot of players. Same with West Coast. They wonโ€™t want to give up 2 or 3 because they know theyโ€™ll get two really good players versus 1.
Strategically too West Coast wouldnโ€™t want to give North anymore access to the draft. Theyโ€™ll want 2 and 3 for 1, because North is directly competing with them for a climb up the ladder. Whereas Melbourne is not.
ย

Of course theyโ€™ll swap 1 for 2 and 3, but I donโ€™t think 2 and 13 will put them in a better drafting position than 6 and 11, especially if they can get Curtin at 6 who is the one they really want.

I think you'll find that while North Melbourne would love not to give up those picks, they more than likely will give up one of them. i know there is a lot of wishful thinking from the Dees fans on this for obvious reasons, but unless we offered up Van Rooyen or Rivers with our pick 6, i don't think we are any chance of trumping North Melbourne as it stands.ย

Even Hawthorn arguably could put together a strong package that we'd struggle to top.ย

with that in mind, i personally would consider trading Van Rooyen to get in pick 1, i understand he's ultra talented, but i rate Harley Reid as someone who's likely to be a long term top 3 in the comp player, and Van Rooyen is still someone who has a strong pull home and could easily leave in 2025. I know a lot of people won't agree and will be shocked by the suggestion, but i think we need a mini re-set as a club and getting Harley Reid in could make or break future premiership tiltsย

I know you need to trade something of value to get something of value but JVR is an absolute ripper. You canโ€™t teach that appetite for contest.

We already have 3 of the best players in the competition on our list, I prefer we enhance the mid to low range so they donโ€™t need to do as much heavy lifting.

Hawthorn have pick 4 and 33.. please tell me how they are in a better position to make the trade? ย
you also realise that pick 2 doesnโ€™t help WC. They want curtin who will be around at pick 6. North wonโ€™t give up pick 2,15 and 18 for pick 1. Itโ€™s a poor decision for a club trying to build a listย
