THis is an interesting watch.

As hes contracted and a required player we'd want a decent return, what did we pay for Lever, i'd assume the compensation should be equivalent to that.

2 first rounders with a second rounder going back to Melbourne.

That pick ended up being…Harrison Petty.

he's injury prone and sounds like he wants to go home anyways. If he's not long term committed, I'd be tempted to do the deal now. hopefully he can recover in full and have a good season so we get properly compensated if he leaves next year.

I can’t see it happening but if Adelaide offer 2 first round picks then it’s a no brainer

Young played 3 games

Stocker was delisted in 2022. Got picked up by the saints and had a decent 2023 playing almost every game.

2 x picks inside the top 20 including a top 10 pick

We really made out like bandits on this one.

Proof once again that draft picks are not always the Hail Mary we all hope they will be.
For every Oliver and Trac there are dozens of O’Briens.

It is why trading quality players is very risky.
Petty can be a major contributor to a flag in 2024 and we can then still trade him while contracted. It would be silly to let him go now, unless we believe his foot injury will prevent him from having an impact on games next year and we can get better value now.

The only scenario I would consider trading Petty this year would be if his injuries are a major concern and there is no certainty he will get back on the park and playing his best in 2024. The club is possibly bluffing when they say is will be playing with us next year to up the anti, but I doubt that.

Otherwise, he is a critical piece of the premiership puzzle - a tall forward who is physically fully developed, can clunk marks, split packs, run all game and kick accurately for goal. We have fantastic draft picks already - I don't care what draft picks are offered - we need exactly what he offers right now - not young talent that will come good in 2-3 years.

I'll be upset if he does leave, even in 2024, as he is part of our core group that will play at their peak for the next 5 years. His ability to play at both ends of the ground make him all the more important as May and Lever get towards the end of their careers.

I really hope that he holds to his word and gives it another crack with us next year. Another test for the club.

Go Dees!

Picks 10 and 20 would make it a conversation but we'd have to have huge wraps on guys like Curtin, O'Sullivan and Caddy to really do it.

AND we'd have to have a short term answer. Chol, Koschitzke, most of the even half realistic ones are spoken for.

It's up to player managers to make their desires known and work across the industry to find options if they want to move a guy 2 years out.

Petty still isn’t proven as a forward. As a backman alone though, he is probably worth picks 10 and 20. However, he is coming off of an injury, appears home sick, and the club at present seems hell bent on off loading salary cap space, which makes me think we’ve something in the works next trade period. Could it be a forward?

There’s no way Curtin slips to pick 10, he’s likely going top 5. Caddy also very unlikely to still be available. O’Sullivan probably 50/50.

The theory behind this is (as Kane Cornes is gleefully enjoying on trade radio) that Adelaide will sell him the number 1 defender spot.

If that interests Petty at all, then we’ve failed him with all the forward-back flip flopping.

I’m hopeful he’s happy with the prospect of being a forward and/or a swing man, so that the sell from Adelaide isn’t persuasive.

IF things progress on this front, Melbourne should use McKay compensation as guide for Perry’s worth.

The sheer optics of Petty going in the same window as McKay a lesser return would be shocking for the fan base.

I thought when he was interviewed after the Richmond game, he said he was really enjoying his time in the forward half.

Why would he not? What is so special about being a key defender vs key forward. I would have thought playing regularly, staying with your mates, having success were most important.

This would help us get a key forward I’d say

Which one. Could only trade Petty if we have  a trade deal agreed for a quality key forward. By key forward I mean a player who can at least halve long balls in like Petty can by taking pack marks or bringing the ball to his feet. Petty is also smart on the lead and an accurate kick which is strangely under rated.

So who could we unlock?

Otherwise hold Petty for 24 and 25 as a key player in push for 14 and see where he is at end of 25 re going home.

So in 24 we're in the window and rely on Benny Brown and Tommy Mac to support JVR in anticipation of getting a free agent in 24 FA/Trade for 25 season?

No thankyou very much.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
