Are they really going to call it Round Zero?

The AFL needs to start acting their age.

It’s actually called “Opening Round” and the following round will be called “Round One”

Well, I really like it. It is a winnable game, it gets one away game out of our system, we get the huge publicity of being the open game, and as it is on a Thursday we will probably get an 8 day break after it.

Now we just have to win it.

Full fixture tomorrow Thursday?

Fair point. But we've been shoved to the Sunday wasteland for decades when only 13000 people bothered to turn up to home games.

I'll take some commercial success and relevance in the competition now which will only strengthen the club.

I do hope there's enough family friendly games throughout the year so everyone can have a chance to attend half a dozen+ games.

The Pies fixture last year had a run of prime time exposure early followed by the biggest gift of day games through the back end of winter. Allowed them to do big training blocks and rest players.

Obviously we won’t get that same gift but with the creation of another prime time game in round 0 I hope we aren‘t shafted out of another day game. The Swans were one team we played twice in the day last year.

Definitely tomorrow. Whether it’s the fixture in its entirety is another matter. 🙄

Thanks. Floating last 7 rounds or so?

I want to make the Perth trip this year so I'm keen to see where that falls.

Fisted by the AFL yet again - Swans and Crows away.

Good for exposure and playing prime time but at the cost of being the ones to travel and be at a disadvantage as per usual.

Here’s hoping we get a crack at both clubs at the G…

I think our bye will be associated with our ANZAC Eve match, I believe that will be in  R6.

Not sure about these posts. Are they unofficial or guesses or confirmed facts from a reliable source?

My response is and this is just my gut feel common sense and footy facts chipping in.

(1) Anzac Eve match is a given vs Tigers. If you are alluding to a bye before then Round 5 ( probably same for Tigers as well) it’s a Wed night so that might be the Bye before Round 6 as (if) Anzac Eve is considered as a Round 6 fixture.
(2) Clint who do we play in Round 4 on Thursday night? Pre Easter Lions host Pies normally as a stand alone. Are you guessing or fantasising ?

This is a take I don’t agree with.

What if we avoid trips to Brisbane and GWS? They were the two strongest interstate sides this year. We have to play interstate games so we can’t just get West Coast 5 times.

How do Pies rest players because of Day games in blocks?
Seriously don’t remember much Resting other than last Round and we all had a bye  afterwards.

If you are  talking of handling players conservatively we did that that’s not resting.

Please name the blocks of day games after winter and Pies also finished season with 3 successive Friday night games at G and Marvel if I am correct.

I can’t imagine they’d gift us the whole fixture at once. My guess is that they’ll release it in ‘blocks’ again, same as this year. Definitely makes booking flights a pain in the neck.

Will have to be a West Coast game as we play Freo in the Alice in Round 10.  As haven’t played WC at G for ages you might be unlucky with no Optus game in WA in ‘24.

Yes. But I'm genuinely surprised they didnt send essendon instead of Carlton as it would have given them much more flexibility around anzac day

Disagree

Can work in Bye for both Tigers  and us around our tricky Wed night Anzac Eve fixture.

Tiges play Suns in opening round on Coast so easier to match up I presume for 2 teams to have same bye dates around their fixture.

It's possible we get double ups with WC or Freo.

Sorry 55 you are correct!

Feels like since the flag we’ve barely played in the day time. My niece and nephew went to two games last year. I’m sure parents had similar issues.

Spot on. Since the flag we've played with the red ball just twice at the G. Once against St Kilda in 2022 and once against Freo in 2023.

I'd like to see more Saturday afternoon and early Sunday afternoon games at he G to add variety to the schedule. However Saturday afternoon footy seems to be reserved for the also rans if the second half of last season was a guide.

I'd also like to see us play at Marvel more than once, at the expense of 1 or 2 less interstate trips. I figure we won't get more than 13 MCG games like last year.

And that makes it less ridiculous?  Not to me.

@Andy can we remove the Culture / Oliver disclaimers within threads? I’m getting RSI in my thumb from the extra scrolling on every page.

I thought the whole fixture will be released but without day/time for Round 16-24.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
