Connor O'Sullivan

Binmans PA

Recommended Posts

I couldn't find a thread on this guy. Looks perfect for us with our first pick.

198cm, 92kg, KPB/KPF

Would not only give us a transition plan for May, but enables us to keep Petty forward in the short term, and for the rest of May's career, play May, Lever and O'Sullivan as the second tall.

In time, O'Sullivan could even swing forward.

As I've said previously, he reminds me of Harris Andrews, but is a nice kick, can intercept and spoil well, take a good contested mark, seems to have a really nice ground ball game for such a big man, which is really important in the modern game, he's got some nice acceleration and with time, will eventually be able to play that May role on 200cm+ talls.

He's a Murray Bushranger guy, so I'm sure @dazzledavey36 will have some intel on him.

I still harbour a wild fantasy that we get a second pick in the top ten and end up with both Curtin and O'sullivan and spend the next decade in a paradise of tall defenders who can swing into other roles.

I mean, I'm harbouring a lot of wild fantasies (draft related) at the moment because there are just so many variables to play out and we have our best draft/trade hand since 2014.

This is going to be the ultimate 'butterfly effect' trade and draft season. You'd need a meteorologist to get a reasonable prediction.

I'm hoping we can get two top 10 picks too, and swing O'Sullivan and then Watson. Both make either end dangerous/powerful for us, and allow our contested bulls to go to work at CP. Makes all zones much tougher to beat.

He's about to play in the senior Ovens and Murray grand final for Albury against the Yarrawonga Pidgeons.

Playing alongside Jeffy Garlett as well. Won't be able to make it unfortunately but this kid will play senior AFL footy next year.

We've spoken and interviewed 'Sully' as well.

He’s the one I’m hoping we go for. May replacement. Can hopefully have an impact next season. Could be potential swing man next year if Petty goes down injured again. Next year is meant to have few KPP so a good time to pick up one.
In a perfect world we’d also get pick 4 and take Mckercher, Watson or Duursma but if we cant get pick 4 then O’Sullivan  and Wilson or Windsor would be nice.

Wouldn’t mind 2 of O’Sullivan, McKercher or Watson

You can throw in Sanders in that mix. He may be a more realistic get than your latter two. That said, I am assuming that NM won't get access to him. He is a JHF clone.

Looks more like a Lewis Taylor clone to me. Aside from the pulled up socks, I don't see the JHF comparison that is bandied around.

Not sure if it the official view at the club but I’ve heard Jed Adams isn’t up to it. Less about talent and more about application

Takes some kids a bit longer to adjust to the professionalism required. I wouldn't discount him just yet.

I reckon North will use the pick 3 free agent compensation pick to draft this guy, will actually be an upgrade over time on the bloke going out

I would not be surprised if this occurs. North have heavily invested in mid types in previous drafts. I would not be surprised to see them draft O'Sullivan and maybe Curtin who will play from game 1 or Caddy as a partner for Larky up forward.

Whatever there is always a surprise or 2 or 3 in the top 10 (top 15 this year with all the give aways).

I should save myself time and find a post from another thread.

But the gist of it is:

Pros:
- Perfect size, shape. Going to be a very big unit
- Without knowing testing numbers seems a very good, maybe even great athlete
- Gets to good positions, racks up the ball
- Exceptional with the ball on the deck especially by hand

Cons
- Just doesn't win enough aerial contests. Gets out marked and lets the ball get over the back too frequently for an elite prospect

I wouldn't completely dismiss him, he's still a good prospect, but I wouldn't be sold on him going top 7. More 8-12.

From purely watching highlights(I assume that’s what we all go off, Which is why I’ll be very happy with what ever JT comes up with)

this guy looks incredible , hits the ball hard both in the air and ground level and you can tell he will fill into a big body . Go check out Harry Mckays highlights at under 18 level he was so skinny !

apparently growth and development has come on rapidly this year so could be plenty more upside to go.

have you seen him play  how do you know he doesn’t win enough  contests? Love hearing from those who have actually watched full games .

I just wanted to know

I’ve watched a couple of the full allies game replays as well as the video compilations that aren’t just highlights but are every touch and most involvements.

Obviously I’m not a recruiter or an expert and it’s not the same as watching live.

He’s a really good zoning player who gets to the right spots but in terms of true aerial work he’s got a lot to improve on. Junior talls are rarely great at it and some figure it out from a low base like a Harry McKay. For a top 10 pick on a key defender I’d like someone who displays really natural top end marking like a Gibcus or Jake Lever.

Just go through the videos and chart every time he’s involved in a pack or one on one under a high ball and the number of times he takes a mark or gets a clean spoil on the ball.

His highlights are very good but live vision is required to see his overall game.

His disposal looks good as well.

TBH, I thought his disposal wasn't great, or perhaps more specifically, it's not a smooth natural kicking action.  Note, I don't mean it wasn't effective, just a bit awkward.

I really like him, particularly if we miss out on Curtin. A succession plan in defence is a priority. However, I feel like he would be a steal if he slipped to 11 but overpriced at 6.

Could be one to watch for with pick trading shenanigans.

That’s what we have Disco Turner and Jed Adams for is a succession plan. If only they would play Disco and get games into him.

Jef is more a next season chance if he builds up and his first season although injury affected in a reduced pre season was a promising start.

However Curtin would be a bonus at 6 if we could snag him but O’Connor has some good reports and not without his admirers. Pick 11 would be a great choice although I like Caleb Windsor for his outside run and carry plus goals from the play he creates.

Should be 2 good recruits or one great one!

Last year some of the posters said Judd McVee had a poor season and should have been delisted, guess what he proved that he is a good player in the making.

Judging players like Jed Adam, Matthew Jefferson and Will Verrall by their development season is like saying Max Gawn will never make it after 3 seasons since he had 2 reconstructions without a pre-season, give them another pre-season and they may blossom?

https://www.sen.com.au/news/2023/11/12/why-theres-a-lot-to-like-about-the-drafts-best-key-defender/

Mick Ablett is a respected judge of young talent. He ranks O'Sullivan above Curtin and after re-watching the Allies vs WA match, played mid year, I can see why. O'Sullivan was absolutely dominant, not so Curtin. That said, Curtin was on Walter so had a bigger task.

The game is recommended viewing as Sanders also played very well.

Curtain to Curtin. Bloody auto correct!

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
