Note the year, 2020

Covid made it tough for kids and scouts but it’s still poor considering that

Yep, there was always a high degree of uncertainty on the talent pool due to the loss of underage footy in that period.

Hope Dees retain list spots to get 4 draftees in this years pool. Super deep and lots of ready to go young talent. Given we have 5&9 and have purged other picks, our two later picks might be in the deep 60s.  But there’s still talent.

An example is in SA.  Woodville-West Torrens U18 captain Jett Hasting was very good in the SA colts grand final (under 18s). Best on ground.   I saw him also in the National championships and his run and carry and burst gave him similarities to the Trent Rivers. Endurance is good.  Won the SA state coming2km time trial in 6min29secs. Skills are good. Has the pace and composure to be a AFL footballer imv. Probably a rookie pick but shows the quality late in the draft pool.

If the phantom form guide is anything to go by we will be getting Lalor and Tauru. Everybody happy with that?

Ecstatic. Have zero expectation that we'll get both.

Really hoping Lalor gets to our pick.

Is there a decent chance that Jagga Smith slides to 5? Tigers are into Lalor, North don't need a mid, Carlton into FOS, Adelaide...could do anything but might look at the local in Draper.

This would be wonderful but I doubt it happens. North don't need a mid yes but they're not going to reach to get someone based on positional need. While its an even draft the top 6 mids are a tier above. You generally always pick best available. Jagga is pretty versatile and might start off playing on a flank for North.

But wouldn't it be great if North picked FOS. I am very annoyed Carlton has weaseled their way into pick 3 so now I'm hoping they don't get their man.

Dees should hold at 5 & 9

at 5, it’s about who slides, it should be either Lalor, Langford, O’Sullivan, Smith or Draper.

Tigers at 1 have to choose between Smith, Lalor or Langford.

I think Blues will want O’Sullivan and Crows will grab Draper.

So it’s probably out of Smith, Lalor or Langford option. All have excellent futures ahead with exceptional talent.

at 9, hope for either Lindsay, Travaglia or Tauru. Each are also very special youngsters with definite AFL quality futures.  Each would also be ready for AFL in 2025.

Josh Smillie is an absolute wildcard for me.  At start of the year, he was a possible number 1.  His form was generally very good and he dominated Coates league footy. But his championships games were average and I think clubs saw his defensive skills as lacking.  But his talent is undeniable.  194cms big and strong and good burst across first 5 metres. Kicks it 50-60 metres easily.  His centre clearance work is Cripps like.  Whoever gets him and then puts the necessary extra physical conditioning into him, could get an absolute steal and a future great.

The 2024 draft looks to be considerably better than the 2020 one

Poor Bombers

Looks a lot better than the top 10 of '03 draft when we had two picks in the top 5!

I cant do the math but if North want Houston is there any acceptable deal that gets us pick 2 with a workable second pick?

I feel like Brock got the most out of himself.  But always wondered what Col would have been if he entered a better system - I reckon he could have been Petracca level (with dedication, development and injury luck)

Sylvia had the athleticism and talent to be anything!
Brock probably born ten years too late and a string of ankle and foot injuries didn't really help.

Anyone watched Berry closely?

He's a star imo. Would be very happy with him at 9. Has speed, not afraid of the contest and could easily slot into the midfield in time.

I was impressed too.

We wanted Wiz last year, murmurs re Kako this year (granted that may just have been to pry P9 from Essendon)

Is Berry next best?

Next best small forward, whether he's the next best player at 9 is another question.

@dazzledavey36 might have some insights into Berry.

Taj Hotton is really interesting given he's missed so much footy with injury, but when he has played he's looked incredible.

I think he's one that would definitely be top 10, if not top 5 if not for his injury, but likely to slide into the teens instead, could be a bargain pick up.

I've been a big Langford fan, but Jeez I'm slowly coming around to Smillie.

What do you reckon about some of the knocks on him Daz? He seems to have all the physical attributes you could ask for but some questioning his work rate and ability to impose himself in the contest

smilie has a good kick but can just jam it on the boot and cough it up when under pressure .

very agile and has a frame  that will grow to become beast like in years to come .

can’t wait to see who we end up with.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
