AFLW: Rd 03 vs Western Bulldogs

Purcell misses a sitter. Playing well in general but goal kicking is poor.

A picture perfect day down here at Casey Fields. Skills are fantastic. We've built a hell of a Dees side here.

Last 5 minutes been terrible

Jeez, there’s a touch of our AFL team in the way we are playing.

what a roost

Ripping goal by Hanks. Where was Pearce to touch it on the line? (Too soon?)

That was a seriously dumb 50 the doggies player gave away there. And Hanks punishes the stupidity.

Hanks is my favourite player. top notch ball use and great composure. Hore was good first quarter but a little wayward in the second.

Fair play to the doggies. they're game and having a real crack here.

Hope Banno has avoided serious injury.

Running game hasn’t clicked today in to the wind.

And a slack period with it.

Backline needs some fresh legs I think. Godly has lost a yard and Birch continues to decline.

Pearces tap work has been excellent today

Eliza West should keep it simple and just dish it off. butchered a great opportunity there because of poor disposal

When they move it, they move it.

These girls are beyond amazing.

The structure and spirit within this team is incredible.

Hore is such a star but Hanks foot skills are a genuine sight to behold.

Go dees girls!

AB looks OK, I think?

And then it did!😊

Up on her feet celebrating goals is good, but she’d also be celebrating in a coma

Clicked with the wind in the last, a little surprised we didn’t look more fluent running and carrying in the 1st and 3rd but sense the players knew they had nothing to worry about.

Slight doubts on the backline but we are really punishing bad sides with a lot of avenues to goal.

The girls are in great shape. Playing with confidence, scoring heavily and moving the ball with real purpose.

Hard to know where we stand until we face the Crows, Lions and North but so far we've blown all our opponents out of the water (and to their credit the doggies were game and had a real dip today but were just outclassed by us)

Hanks superb. She's a cut above every player in this league. always has time and rarely wastes a possession. Hore very good. Pearce played well today (and ably assisted by Campbell who i've been very impressed by this year). Lily always gets stuck in. West just barrels through contests. Heath is the female Nev Jetta. tough as. We have outside flair in Mackin and McNamara and up top we have 2 great targets in Harris and Zanker. We have all the tools.

I'm very confident about the season ahead. We're going to be hard to stop.

Go Dees

the wind is spoiling this game as usual. I really don't like Casey Fields.

But luckily the girls do! Their 'Field Of Dreams' as they like to call it, KH just said.

Can't quite gather my thoughts on this game after arriving home from Casey to hear of the passing of a great.

For now I'll pay tribute to Barassi's role in the Irish experiment, the fruits of which are close to our hearts as Dees fans, and that we still see today in our AFLW team, with Goldie and of course Mackin in that famous #31.

Bit sloppy at the back. But Gillard is so promising as a young tall back there. Once she realised she is in 2nd gear and jumps into 4th she will be amazing. Maddie Gay reminds me of a player who wore her number - G Lyon - put her anywhere and she will do what needs to get done - hope her hip isn’t too bad.

AB didn’t look great so that’s a welcome surprise that it could just be a week. The commentators need to be a bit more aware of the moment - I am watching this game for the jumper but mainly because of a handful of amazing talents of which Bannan is on the podium - a knee injury could be more damaging to the sport, let alone our fortunes in the season or the day - wax lyrical about that for a bit.

Oh and Hanks.

Jesus Christ.

She is as clean as Clarry. Cleaner even…

And she lowers her eyes…

STOP IT RP!

Yeah, you’re right. But how good are her little dinks and ‘Ablett jnr-esque’ movements?

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
