i dont care what anyone sys but to me the boys did there best!! we really deserved that win but thats footy for you guys. seriously im really positive about our future! todays game gave us a glimpse. guys like sylvia, dunn, bate, PJ, davey and bell all did well. c'mon guys look at the bloke we have out. Robbo, brock, bartram, whelan and rivers.. and then u got kids like frawley, garland and petterd who are bright prospects. im very proud of melbourne and well we all know that we are not gonna make the finals but lets still get behind the boys and support them. As for ND well really i think one more year wouldn't hurt.. he does bleed for the club and without all these injurys i think we could have been a top 4 club these year but oh well. i wsh them well for the rest of the year! ;)

Go dees!

We were one good player off a win. If rivers or petterd, mclean , bartram or even a fit byron had played, we would have won!

Good to see some heart form the boys. Nice to see trapper, bruce and flash find some footy.

good on the boys, im proud of them, gutted, suicidal and depressed, but proud, go the boys. great effort. if that damn midget didn't pretend he was a magician we would've won. colin's mark deserved the goal. top effort.

footy is so much in the brains, as we have proved the past two weeks, attitude will make us win more than we lose from here on in, injuries or not

We are Rivers and Whelan away from a win. Would have made the difference today without a shadow of a doubt.

Hopefully we have those two and McLean back ASAP.

im not happy either. im not as dissapointed as i have been over the season so far. but still not happy.

Not many players seem to make a lead today and we were kicking in to 1 on 1's all day.

and our kicking was terrible at that.

have a look at the stats. i bet we had a lot more kicks than the bulldogs. i bet we were almost equal in clerances.

but we still lost.

no im not happy at all. i dont think i deserve to be shot. i belive this was our year to do well and we are doing really badly.

in fact we couldnt be doing much worse.

im not accepting average performances any more.

how can you say not well done when we put it such an effort. we were just a small backmen from repelling so many attacks with force and direction, i.e. matthew whelan.

110% effort, cant ask for more

Melbourne won a flag in 64 there is no well done until we get the next one. Sorry guys i am not HAPPY!

i agree with ya tooly, i ain't happy about the loss, but i was still impressed with the effort. At least this year we know that we will get some quality in the draft.

so no well done for sydney at any stage for making a gf and losing by a point? you honestly saying you didnt say well done after spanking the pies at the g last year or topping the swans. good on the boys, i say that because that's the endeavour that will get us to the top of the table, for the full 26 weeks, not the first 15

In footy it doesn't matter about a game like that, it all comes down to the last week in september

You forgot Whelan.

I was thinking exactly the same thing today.

Imagine if we had Brock, Rivers, Whelan, Bartram, Robbo, Pettard, Pickett all in that side...and fit!

The sooner we start planning for 2008, the sooner we get games into Newton, Petterd, Frawley - the sooner we get our structure organised for 2008. Port did this last year and it is paying dividends - they will be playing finals this year, we won't as we would have to win 12 out of 15 to be a chance, so let the club announce what it is doing and move on (even if that means announcing a 1 year extension to Dniher's contract). The sooner this happens the sooner the club can get it right, and more than likely we'll win a few games pretty quickly.

Was so proud of the boys today. I've been watching for two decades and I can't remember a time when we have tried so hard, regardless of the mistakes or the stuff-ups. Despite the fact are 0-7 I am loving coming to see us play. I hate losing but by geez they're showing some heart, some ticker, some FIGHT and thats what I want to see.

I have a feeling our culture is turning around.

Just curious.. who do you think would have come out of today's side for Pickett to go in?

"...and fit". I guess I worded it wrong. Pickett is not fit, but if he was, he would be in ahead of Warnock, Ward, Brown and Godfrey. Obviously if Pickett hadnt been dropped, Ward wouldnt have come in.

I can understand that.

I'm not happy we lost but i'm not disappointed cause they had a dig.

MFC kids show good signs with dunn really impressing. i knew bate and jones would be good but i was unsure about dunn.

I'm really glad i read that wrong.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
