If no Grundy, which is expected, only ruck backup option is Smith. Will have to go with De Koning.
God speed.

I’ll back in Joel Smith’s 1 career hitout from 41 games.

Agree with the first part, however Curnow will absolutely destroy Tomlinson with his athleticism. Surely plays on a resting ruck like Pittonet or TDK.

Well, he’s playing so I’m not sure who is on Curnow if it isn’t Tommo

May, has done well the last 2 outings and is our best big defender

Why the hell would we not bring Grundy in and drop Hibberd?

Team selection is by far the coaching department’s biggest weakness.

Turner in as a forward in a final because of one scratch match?

Bloody hell.

Maybe it’ll start that way and the back up is swing Tommo onto him

No, Tomlinson will play on the resting ruck until the game is on hand then be subbed out for a mid who’ll help pile on the last quarter goals. May meanwhile will keep Curnow to a couple.

That’s a better way to put it. Maybe one for Charlie though

AMW playing a debut game as a sub after just showing flashes in Casey is just nonsensical

I’ll give it away if Hibbo gets dropped for Tomlinson

And what was the point of getting Grundy if you’re not going to play him if Max has an injury to help him out??

I've seen in a few different outlets that Disco might be a smokey for us to play forward? What are our thoughts on that?

I think Tomlinson coming back in is a great move.

Ins:  Tomo, Turner, JJ, Spargo

Outs:  Salem (omitted), JVR (susp), Gus (conc) & Chandler (omitted)

Tomo comes in for Salem to cover their resting ruck.

Allows Lever to play in his preferred role.

May to Curnow no brainer.

Hibbo to stay in playing a defensive role on Owies.

Turner for JVR

JJ for Gus.  Hard tag on Crippa.  Don't care if he only gets 5 possies.  Keep Crippa to 16 or so and a goal (max) and we should win.

Spargo for Chandler

Sub:  AMW or Woe

So Laurie gets a reprieve?

Surely not?

Replaced as sub with either Woe or AMW.  Smith is the option here but then someone would need to replace him in the 22.

Will Thommo coming in mean Gawny can take a few F50 stoppages?

We need to create nick a couple of goals from this source, providing some hitting areas for the likes of Petracca, Kozzie, Spargo and ANB to work some magic.

Mostly agree with this, Jordon has taken a step back this year as a player.

Curious though as to who replaces the vital midfield minutes that Brayshaw would have provided?

Both have points but the cupboard is bare as BBP has hinted.

Over to you floody

Couple of things:

- We've played a hell of a lot of games in the wet this season. The Gawn/Grundy combo has not worked at all in the wet. It looked promising in the pre-season and early part of the season. Given it's expected to be warm and dry on Friday night, perhaps there is hope after all and it's worth another crack.

- Whilst we are all a little (ok, very) down about our loss last week, taking a glass half full approach, it might end up working out. GWS are a mile ahead of the comp on key stats over the past 12 week and have won at 11 different venues this season, which is some sort of record. I totally expect them to knock over a depleted Port on Saturday night to set up an encounter against Collingwood the following week. All else being equal, I would tip them to beat Collingwood too. This means if we can get through this Friday night, Collingwood could be out of the finals before us. Playing GWS in the GF compared to the PF would be a massive advantage to us, as this would mean GWS would have been on the road for four consecutive weeks compared to three, which might be the difference between them being at the top of their game and being slightly off it.

One in a hundred years for a finals debut? I don't thinks so.

Don Cordner debuted in a semi final, Doug Heywood in a Prelim, Charlie Spargo's Dad debuted in a final, so did Dermott Brereton and Michael Cooke.....

Just sayin....

So after playing 1 afl game in almost 4 months you want tmac to take up rucking duties agains tdk? This is a joke?

can i just say your reasoned and articulate response is a breath of fresh air. you have not only clearly stated why Grundy should start but haven’t been tempted to undermine my stance.

i stand in awe of your greater intellect

Of course we don't plan to be down at quarter time but my feeling is that is how we have approached our last 5 or six games. Let the oppo take their shot, work out what they doing, respond and run over them with superior fitness.

But i don't think we can risk another slow start this week. And i don't think they will. Go hard and fast early and get a break on them. And take the crowd out of the equation.

I don't think we can afford to do that for 4 finals in a row...

You may be right, but you can't do this in finals.

Absurd to expect tmac to ruck 20% of the game whilst also trying to play up forward. Will be the worst selection decision in goodwins entire tenure

JVR has been doing this as a first year kid. T Mac has done it and can again

i’ve yet to hear anyone state a decent case for bringing Grundy in

aside from the 20% resting ruck duties what does he offer? zero fwd

Tommo in for JVR. Smith fwd

Love both these takes. Friday's game is ours to win, we need to bring our strengths...

Gawn/Grundy, back it to win (JvR out)

Tommo in back, he gives the Lever/May combo its edge (Hibbo out, undersized)

JJ for Brayshaw, slim pickings otherwise

Oliver/Petracca on ball, so Fwd option needs to be something else

Smithy is the super-sub, covers many bases  (Laurie out)

A Fwd gap remains //  Dedicated fwd in...  (BBB or Schache) or small option Woey/Spargo

I think we're really strong with

In  -  Grundy, Tommo, JJ, Woey

Out  -  JvR, Hibbo, Brayshaw,  Laurie, Smith (to sub)

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
