On Friday night,i'd like to see Max lead the boys to the place where Angus was felled,23 players form a circle, arm in arm.

Tonight is for our Fallen Brother!

Like a vigil? The cliff edge where the digger was shot?

Maybe we can just win it for him.

For some reason the idea of bringing Tomlinson into the team and playing May forward keeps coming to mind. It's left field, but all the other options are underwhelming....

If he didnt have a big left hook on his kicking AND we had a close replacement i reckon it would've been given some consideration Bingo

Appears we are going with Disco for JVR this week.

When you are as good as him you don't need to.

As Gary Lineker recently said on his podcast “when I went to Barcelona I was chasing and tackling and the players stopped me at half time and said ‘what are you doing, you’re here to score goals.’ I said to myself ‘I’ll have a bit of that’ but when I came back to Spurs I had to do that nonsense again!”

Not worthy of a new topic, however, would like to know if people think this group of players gets a bit of stage fright early in front of big hostile crowds at the G?

I know they’ve got Grand final experience (albeit at Optus) but it seems that whenever we play in front of a large MCG crowd against a another big Victorian team we start poorly.

Some recent examples:

Round 6: Richmond ANZAC eve - poor start

Round 13 - Collingwood KBD - poor start

Round 22 - Carlton - poor start

QF - Collingwood - poor start.

I know we had finals wins in 2018 but Geelong and Hawthorn crowds don’t have the same level of goading and intimidation as a Pies/Blues/Richmond crowd.

I don't thinks so only by the unfortunate stat that we have started poorly in quite a few others.

I admire our fight backs but it's frustrating that we are putting ourselves in these positions.

But kudos for attempting to explain them. It's quite strange.

Gawn has a broken toe and Oliver carrying knee soreness according to Sam Edmund on SEN

Grundy has to play now, we are getting banged up Thursday was just such a fail will cost us a shot

Once again we are mentally and physically falling apart in September.

2021 was a blessed year... shame it happened 9000km away from most of our supporters.

Great pickup RPFC. That old English work rate!

Also didn't know he had a pod.

Goodwin will have to be forced into playing Grundy he doesnt like change and will resist it he should have realized earlier Max cannot do it on his own and played Grundy against Collingwood just like his idea of a Forward Line he wont admit that he was wrong i blame him entirely

My understanding is that Gawn has had this for a few weeks now and just has a needle pre match.

Yes but if he goes down we only have TMac or Joel Smith to ruck. Grundy has to play

And it should be said Grundy is an 2xAA Team member and a 2x Copeland Trophy winner.

If he is picked he will go nuts wanting to play in a Prelim and a GF

He is primed.

If he isn't picked that will tell us a fair but more about Goody

If only we had some other ideas as to using players........

Amazing to see him up and about!
It truly is sad how little I care about this season now. I just want Gus to be ok.

The C'wood supporting morons in the media and supporters will cite that as evidence that he was faking it the whole time.

The luck of an MFC supporter (well except for those that weren't stuck in VIC in 2021)

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
