It's pretty clear Brodie Grundy is off to greener AFL pastures in the trade period.

We need a ready made ruck replacement. Max will be 32 next season and can't be expected to ruck solo the whole season.

As suggested to me by @grazman, Matt Flynn is UFA at GWS this year, he won't cost us anything in draft picks, only salary and we just need to convince him to come across.

A true mature ruck-forward would be nice but they don't grow on trees.

I'm seen him play a few really good games for GWS. good option imo.

Flynn would be a perfect replacement for Grundy if he was willing and didn't require too much coin.

But he might want to go to a club where he's more likely to play the No.1 ruck role as he's not really shown that he can be a danger when resting forward - aka Grundy.

Mentioned this in the 'targets' thread but GWS surely can't afford to have three mature ruckmen, all capable of playing AFL on their books?

With Flynn, I wonder given he's from southern NSW whether Melbourne life is for him? Otherwise it's welcome back Brayden Preuss!

Flynn is the #2 option at GWS so i wouldn't think they let him go

Preuss is either injured or suspended LOL

He's an Unrestricted Free Agent out of contract, they can't stop him if he wants to go.  Just like us with JJ.

How about Same Hayes part of a deal for Grundy?

Flynn doesn't cost us any draft capital

would prefer lycett to hayes, better mark and harder to play against as a ruckman, hayes is more your pretty ruckman than ur brute force

Still in the race, but I think the Eagles are heavy favourite which might be why we pick off Jamieson. Flynn probably a bit expensive.

Preuss must be feeling the love after hearing that. 🤔😆

I’m hoping Flynn goes to West Coast and Bailey Williams asks to go to the Dee Dee Demons…

They dont have a ruckman, We have the greatest of the last 15 years.

But he’s 32 next year. His time is limited but our window is not. West Coast are a decade off a flag.

Do you think after 8 years on GWS list Flynn wants to leave to wait another 2 years to play regular senior football?

They have two, Williams and youngster Barnett.

Well there goes any deal for pick 1 if that happens, possibly.

How does a Free agent affect pick 1 ??

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
