Sounds like Petty is keen to go. I’m happy to keep him to his contract  because he is a very good player and is important to our structure. However, his foot is a concern long term.

Dees should be asking for Pick 10, 14 and Gollant at a minimum.

or Pick 10, Adelaide F1 and Gollant.

These additional picks would help net us Pick 1 from West Toast I would think… Or move down the order and nab Norths Pick 3 as well as keeping Pick 6.

I may have egg on my face at the end of the day but I can't see how the MFC would trade Petty this trade period.  He's arguably our most important player next year if he's able to reproduce the kind of form he was in prior to getting injured.

The trade scenario is creative but I think that's overvaluing Himmelberg - GWS paid so much to get pick 1 (Cadman) last year, can't see them giving up on him after 1 year.  Seems a lot for Adelaide to be paying for Petty (from our perspective he's worth all of that - but that's because he can play positions in our team that we have no one else as backup)

Not a huge diff but MAYBE (with our HP & development side kicking in) a marginal upgrade with more potential upside ... why did we we go for Fullarton over Koschitzkea.

Both have struggled but Jacob seems to at least lead / mark strongly.  Decent length to his kick and doesn't seem to mind the contested side.

Would've also come cheap.

I was also a bit surprised. Decent overhead, haven't seen Fullerton do much in that area.

Well obviously those great picks 76 and 94 have made all the difference.

Does Mackie feel like a winner now, imo he looks foolish.

In: about 1 million in cap space, 3 players who fill clear needs and have significant upside, a strong draft hand with two of the top 10 live picks.

Tim Lamb is a master of the trade period

With BBB, Tom Mac, Tomlinson and Melk likely to finish with us in 2024, we are probably banking another $2m in salary cap space.

something that’s been bugging me as I'm not 100% across the list rules and ability for teams to stockpile picks for players that are bid on.

I note gc and dogs have 10 picks each to match academy and father son. I was of the impression you could only have as many picks as you have list spots available. Does this mean that after delistings, retirements and trades that both those teams have a few players that remain unsigned to fulfil this requirement and following the the draft they are then re signed?

Does the gold coast still have the concession of a larger possible list size they were granted as part of the list concessions a few years ago?

is there an opportunity to scour these lists and pry one out as a delisted free agent as if you are uncontracted after the draft you can delist yourself and sign where you like before list lodgements?

I’m not sure who’d be available but if the list rules are as i think they are, it’d be worth investigating.

Definitely gives some room for a big fish. Who are the free agents of 2024? Im thinking we are every chance not to have a first round pick after this trade period so free agency could be good for us. HP might mean we get one from adelaide if he requests and we relent next year.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
