Honestly, I want to put Smith as SUB

He just gives us a heap of flexibility and his pinch hitting fitness and swift movement is a weapon (and I feel he tires as a full time FWD)

Fritta and Tmac in gives us one more spot to fill

Rivers with a bit of mid time, and Hibbo down back against the fleet footed C'wood attack may be the answer...?

Tough one. I agree he is very valuable as the sub but he was very strong in the last quarter against the swans.

Re: Pies record in the wet.

I remember their game against Richmond in round 3 being a wet low-scoring slug fest. It was close for most of the game mainly due to Pies inaccuracy.

Obviously not as helpful to look at as it was early in the season when they were running out games better.

Forecast is improving each day. Now looks like only a few showers and likely done by 9pm. Rest easy.

I reckon we'll go TMac for Melksham and Hibbo for Laurie. Not sure who plays sub out of Smith or Hibbo. They may go with Smith as sub.

And tomorrow, more from Binman’s ‘pop music stats files’, including:

I would 100% listen to Binman's music podcast.

If we all bring a hair-dryer each we should be able to dry that off.

Thats what I'd do.

IN: TMAC, Hibberd

OUT: Laurie, Melksham

SUB: Smith

Can anyone elaborate as to why Salem would be a bottom 60 player in the comp at the moment?

I agree that he’s not shooting the lights out but bottom 60 is damning for a player of his class.

No impact was Hoyne's key reason.

Listening to hoyne on Sportsday he said we need to shut Elliot out so that match up is huge also said rivers last 6 weeks have been huge he is currently a top 30 rated player in the league and that’s who pies need to shut down at half back, luckily rivers goes through the midfield aswell so would be hard to put a clamp on him

I want Hibbo in to give us options on Elliot, it's him or McVee

Who are Collingwood and Carlton playing, I don’t think they have opponents. Well certainly if you look at the media coverage.

Am praying for a Swans against Pies semi final next week, then have a week of media discussing Port/Brisbane, against that red and blue team in the PF.

As Ross Lyon would say, 'fingernail deep' analysis by Hoyne, the effectiveness of Salem's tackles was much better, not that he is a slouch, but he really pressured the sydney players with the ball, and unlike a lot of games ,where he is a fraction late (and gives away frees) he was really motoring to ensure he effected his tackle legally (and with venom) I thought it was effective enough that it made uf for his kicking being a little more floaty, Salem will be just fine.

Tough at the selection table this week.

If Cox plays we must select Grundy (sorry). I hear T Mac is cherry ripe so he's in.

Wouldn't like to drop Laurie. Judd McVee hasn't lowered his colours to anybody this year and he can sort Elliot.

Melks and Turner out (sorry again) with Smithy as sub.

With tmac and Grundy it's an either or, not a both situation

Need some logistic advice from folks:

The game starts at 7.20, is 6.45 arrival at the gates enough time to get in and find seats etc.

I assume it’s plenty of time, but has anybody found it has taken longer than this to get into the G with a packed out crowd?

This. We cannot play both and we need a tall forward more than we need a second ruckman.

Full game.

There's been a bit of talk on Demonland about playing Kozzy deep out of the square in this QF. Will be fascinating if we try that. Pretty hard if you're winning territory and it's always in there though

Not sure if having him deep in the forward area is the best place for him. I don't think he has the forward craft that Melky would've brought, perhaps Tracc in deep for a few plays.

I want him front and centre of the pack, then applying his pressure when they think they have an outlet. Set him up in the pockets, as his snaps from there are great.

If possible leave the goal square area empty, by pushing high, then we have a place to lead back into, with kicks over the back.

Can't bomb it to the 30 meter area in the arc. Like us, they will easily intercept those ones.

Our forwards have been looking very mobile of late. Run their backs all over the park, so they can't set the zone and then give me some precision passes.

Can’t see it happening but Hibbo could replace Salem.
I would feel safer with Hibbo in the side. Elliot worries me and McVee has never played on him before. Not saying he can’t do the job but Elliot is an extremely smart and strong player. He’s hurt us before and he’s exactly the sort of player who can turn a game in the blink of an eye.

Hibbo might be the man

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
