Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Petracca A high Centre Half Forward

Given our loss of Petty and the struggle to find a consistent CHF, I believe we should  centre on Petracca to play the role. He marks above his height, his power running, and given the role of running from the centre to the half forward line with his endurance, would run most Centre Half Backs off their feet.

Sorry can't agree with this.  With a key def on him he will have to lead too far away from goal. and with our kicking to forwards he wont get enough on a lead and big def will kill him in the air.  The reason he looks good in the air is because he gets the mismatch on midfielders and he is much stronger than them and does have a good leap for his size.

I wonder, he is as strong as any CHB going around, while he might not be able to out mark everyone he would at least halve contests and bring ball to ground. Leave some space for Oliver in the middle. Am not totally against it.

Who would you play as FF? Smith? I almost would prefer this set up as we would have great fwd half defensive pressure. He would be in the head of every defender, he has a reputation and draws defenders like flys.

Mad time to try it 2 weeks before finals though.

I'm not 'for this' as such but it beats the FD's current structure of mostly playing the likes of JJ, Harmes, Kozzy, Spargy pants and other little people in this position.  Bilbo Baggins next?

Ideally this could have been the role for Petty but of course the footy gods got us again.

When you think about it the footy gods have spoken during 2023 and their answer??....

BBB.....

"Can i give it a go?"

Footy Gods.....

"Nope not your turn this year son, we have no time to fix knees, still working our way through all the Covid nonsense"

Macca...

"I'd like some more silverware, hows about fixing my bloody foot again"

Footy gods...

"Sorry, you were 2021's man"

Petty...

"How about me, i'm ready and really wanna play here and i've had enough of this dour defensive rubbish?"

Footy Gods....

"We gave you a chance as a defender, you should've stayed there.  Feel free to come back next year"

Smith...

"I'm not asking to play anywhere sirs.  But after so many injuries i'd just like to keep playing a bit more please"

Footy gods...

"Hmmm...anywhere in particular?"

Smith...

"CHF would be nice"

Footy gods (after much deliberation)...

"Oh ok ok if you must.  You appear to have earned this one.  We aren't very patient though so make the most of it son".

How do you know this?

He was listed 2-3 weeks, meaning it's doubtful he will make it to Rd 24.

In any case, I prefer to rest him until finals come to get that foot ready.

Fritsch will be back for finals only, won't make it to anymore H&A games.

WCW is saying he is a possibility for the Swans game. He needs the run in his legs to get match fitness.

Trac has to stay in the forward line 70/30. Now that Oliver is back we can revert back to the previous midfield setup with Oliver, Viney and Sparrow/Kozzy/Trac.

He is not defensively accountable in the middle and is exploited byopposition coaches.

Now that Clarry is back and we have plenty of mids i reckon we should play Trac 80% fwd. he can lead or drift as he likes. he’s a nightmare match up.

him and Kozzi switching up between fwd and mid is our X factor and we need to exploit it further

I would say Trac didn’t spend much time fwd earlier in the year

he has 13 goals in the last 6 games and only 12 goals in the previous 16

we need him fwd badly if we are to win finals he could easily kick 50-60 goals per season

And that's why you bring the ball down low where has the strength it also depends on how the other forwards separate from him to leave him one out and he goes no further than the 35 metre area.

Our mids have consistently shown they can't do that.  We have played with 1 tall plenty of the past 2 years.

Let's just hope they get a forward coach next year, wonder if they will approach Jack Riewoldt so someone can teach JVR and Jefferson of forward craft.

this is a must do!!  Watched a bit of Jefferson this year, he has all the tools.  just needs to be developed correctly and build a big tank as i think he is going to be a mobile CHF type

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
