Jefferson should take less time if he is to be something but I think he needs to be 22/3 before his body is ready to take what is coming to him if he plays as a tall in a forward line. The game I'm talking about was in Max's 2nd year and he beat an experienced Ben Hudson... Let's see how Jeffo looks next year but I sense a bit of Lucas Cook about him. Cook showed some nice attributes and does Jeffo but neither seem to take the game on. His selection may well be the same mistake made in drafting for needs rather than best available. We will know a lot more next season. 2 1 1 Quote

Lucas Cook was sooking it up at his first training session with us. Jeffo had a stinker yesterday but I don’t see him as another Lucas Cook. A recent game where he was moving around the ground, was a very good hint of what is to come and we have already seen examples of his contested marking and accurate kicking for goal. 5 Quote

So, I'm a hold on Jefferson. 1 Quote

Agree completely. MJ is a year behind JVR on age and at least at least another year (I’d say 1-2) behind on him physically. Add those together and he’s a good 2-3 years behind JVR at the moment. He needs time to not only adjust to the speed but the physical side too. I don’t expect MJ to really be impacting games consistently for another 4/5 years 1 Quote
kallangurdemon 551 Posted September 3, 2023 Posted September 3, 2023 MJ was never expected to push for selection this season and it was always going to be a year of physical development . He has been very much a boy playing in a mans comp.He has wonderful hands and positions himself well so there is plenty to work with .Having said that yesterdays effort was lamentable both in effort and output. It was Schachesque. Hopefully that game was just the outlier and Matt will continue to develop and gain selection in the second half of next year . 3 Quote
Diamond_Jim 12,772 Posted September 3, 2023 Posted September 3, 2023 Had some decent games this year. First half of next season should give a better base for assessment. One concern is that Casey as a team have probably peaked and we will see turnover both of older AFL and VFL players next season. If this occurs how do you assess a forward when the ball is not getting down there. Perhaps some time down back? Quote

Do you think Jeremy will request a trade back to us after we shellack Collingwood on our way to the flag? Or maybe you mean Howes. 2 hours ago, Deemania since 56 said: He still requires a few really good-sized steak dinners and months in the gym with weights and other resistance activities to build himself into a man-mountain. He certainly needs physical development and some pace (muscle pace like Tracca, Peter Moore, Neitz) and he certainly has the smarts and skills to take the big marks and line up the sticks; but, he needs some more mass to get in there with confidence. It will come. t So, more of a TMCD than a BBB!🙄 Quote

It would be interesting to watch such development and to ascertain what the Club have in mind for his footballing future. Quote

Dee-licious 1,954 Posted September 3, 2023 Posted September 3, 2023 Jefferson had a bad games. He’s had a couple of bad games this year. He’s almost had many more good games than bad games. It’s just there was no men’s football this weekend so more people tuned in. Remember that Howes couldn’t get near it in last years granny. JVR had some quiet games. AMW has had some very quiet games. Its ok. We’ve got a much better team in to help him develop. 1 Quote

deespicable me 1,584 Posted September 3, 2023 Posted September 3, 2023 He reminds me more like a Josh Kennedy from West Coast. Kennedy is originally from Melbourne but grew up in Northampton, Western Australia. He played football for East Fremantle in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) before being drafted to Carlton with the fourth pick in the 2005 National Draft. After two seasons at Carlton, he was traded to West Coast at the end of the 2007 season as part of a deal involving club captain Chris Judd. Kennedy soon established himself as West Coast's leading key forward. He has led the club goalkicking six times, first in 2011 and then in five consecutive seasons from 2013 onwards. In 2014, he briefly served as acting co-captain following the retirement of Darren Glass. Kennedy won consecutive Coleman Medals in 2015 and 2016 as the league's leading goalkicker, and was runner-up in 2017. He was also named in the All-Australian team in each of those years. In 2022, Kennedy kicked his 700th goal, becoming the first Eagles player to reach the milestone. This guy was a serious star of the game. Look at the dates from when he was drafted to when he won the clubs goal kicking. 6 years after being drafted. First Coleman in 2015 10 years after being drafted. Kennedy had skinny legs and a slightly stooped back and a very long reach just like Jefferson. Had similar issues with strength but ended his career with super upper body strength and a massive chest. Jefferson could become that player. 3 1 Quote

I've seen some kids far smaller with a hell of a lot more desire for the contest. JVR last year was throwing himself at contest after contest leaving me drooling at the thoughts of him being our KPF for the next 12 years. In the 4 or 5 games of Jeffo, I have been very very underwhelmed. You're either born with the competitive streak and aggression and absolute want for the ball or your not. I just don't see anything other than an occasional nice grab or a nice kick. Would love him to prove me wrong and I hope its the case but from what I have seen, I doubt it. 8 hours ago, rjay said: As for the Cook comparison it's that both were selected on needs and both as players are introverted. From what I recall, all the draft talk was that he was always going to be a first round pick and predicted to go nearly exactly where he did go. I don't think we really reached to get him as a needs pick up. 1 Quote

We know Goody has a love for bringing in recruits who are genuine competitors. Watching his draft highlights and then most games at Casey this year he is far from the competitive animal that the likes of JVR possess when we were watching him last year. I feel like I've learnt my lesson from writing off McVee last year after watching some underwhelming performances so fingers cross he has a big summer. 2 Quote
