Howe is just about the Pies best player so far.

No ‘just about’ about it. Hawks would be 7 goals up if not for him.

But they've won.....oh yeah nothing

At this rate they may not even win this years minor premiership!

(To be clear for all the pie worshippers - and you know who you are - that was a joke).

Have the pies fallen in a hole after such an continuous high intensity year

It's been nearly 2 seasons of playing at a high intensity it's  hard to keep up . I wont write them off but their game style must take a toll

Probably no coincidence he missed a lot of games through injury and is not as fatigued/banged up as the rest of the Collingwood side.

Broken by Carlton last week (just as Port was) 😁

I presume the Pies have aligned their training regime @binman and they’re rather taxed at the moment. 7 weeks out, 2 games clear…

Gary Lyon - let's see how this GREAT side responds.

For the love of God, they are not a great side.

They are DA BEST SIDE EVER

🙄

Pies fans would be incensed by this defensive performance from Collingwood. I love it.

Al jokes aside, I would be surprised if they're running out of gas - unless, like us last season, they have injuries that are not known about.

But agree, they play a very taxing game - physically and psychologically.

This game reminds me of the lions suns game. The suns came to play. The lions didn't. And it is very hard to turn that energy around.

As I said about the lions  it's a worry for contenders to not to come into a game fully switched on tgis late in the campaign.

As ramanaskas noted on abc this morning, flag winners historically win their last 4 and come into the finals in red hot form.

Lions lode to suns. Port a good chance of losing 5 zip.

Pies lose last week and 5 goals down 5 mins into the second against the 16th placed side.

Mmm, of the contenders, who does that leave?

I feel filthy shouting "come on" to the TV when the Hawks get a goal. I might need counselling. But if it means seeing the Pies lose, I suppose the lesser of two evils...

Welp it was fun while it lasted. Hawthorn have played their good quarter and will shut up shop from here on in it looks like.

Yeah, I wondering the same thing.

But surely it's pretty late in the season not to be close to your optimal shape and playing your best footy?

But agree, it's def a possibility.

They certainly look to be making fatigue skill errors.

Even if The Pies win this game I wonder if they are starting to believe they don't need to turn up at the start of games. If they do it will kill them come finals.

I think they’ve just learned the danger, corrected, and will win this very easily. Sadly, obviously.

If the hawks can keep going, we'll know the answer in the last 20 mins of the game i reckon.

If they can't roll over the top of the hawks like we did the tigers, then the perhaps their timing of their program is different to ours (ie we're almost out the other side already).

Would have been hillarious if the Bombers lost but a better result for the Dees draft picks with them winning (in case Freo hit form).

Wow. What a soft effort from degoey then.

Ended up with a ruan goal.

No comment from the callers?

Would be crazy to be doing a heavy training load this close to finals.

Absolute foot steps.

Yeah, I would have thought so too.

You have to win week one of the finals after all.

Short arms we used to say in cricket for slip fielders who preferred not get near a catch rather than risk dropping it.

But if you win you don't learn it just reinforces bad habits.

After four weeks on the road the Demons make their long awaited return to the MCG next Sunday to play in a classic late season dead rubber against the North Melbourne Kangaroos. Who comes in and who comes out?

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.
