Glad to see Richmond put in their place. The foam that oozes out from the media when they win a couple of games could fill a fire extinguisher.

Imagine if St Kilda didn’t take Billings the pick before Bont in 2013

Imagine if St Kilda didn’t take McCartin the pick before Petracca in 2014.

Peak mid 2010’s St Kilda drafting.

Imagine if they picked Judd instead of Ball?

Ball no slouch of course but Judd in that midfield would have been worth a watch.

Watching that Marion Pickett incident in the 3rd quarter tonight I just want to remind all fans that it’s never ok to touch the players.

This applies to all supporters, and certainly isn’t aimed specifically at @WalkingCivilWar when James Harmes wanders toward the cheer squad.

Maybe they are saying ‘we’ll play if you get us an actual coach next year’?

I thought McQualter was doing alright after Hardwick. Gave them a few wins and some hope.

Dusty was playing beautifully against us. Just not enough time for the veterans to get up, after only 5 days.

If a 5 day break, needs both clubs to have the 5, otherwise too much advantage to the one with more days.

If prime time telly, should really have more than the 5 day breaks, especially at the back end of the season, if they want a spectacle.

Also, the Docklands curse for Richmond. They need to embrace the travel.

That would NEVER happen! Harmesy knows better than to come anywhere near the cheer squad. 😜

I seem to remember an incident with Oliver and a blues fan that grabbed him years ago. and oliver was made to apologise!?

Yes and I hope Mimi gets the gig. I had them well outside the 8 this year and he had them doing very well. Dusty still has it and can use the ball, I thought he’d checked out, but no.

I thought this was a really soulless performance with everything on the line. I’m not sure you can put that down to a ground.

Yes we were [censored] at Marvel for a long time but this did correlate with us basically being [censored] everywhere.

Tiges would rather have the roof open and hack the ball forward and aside from Dusty are mostly butchers, but they didn’t really fight or chase the dogs playing indoors.

Be interesting to see whether Tiges have the ‘cue in the rack’ already. Next 3 efforts will be interesting.

Wow. Bont and Petracca would have had a cooking show on and off the ground.

Even taking 5-day break into account the Tiges looked shot. I don't want them to implode completely from here though. One more win should see them finish above Freo.

And their bad record at Marvel is self-fulfilling. Big mistake by Hardwick saying they didn't want to play there.

Unfortunate for the Tigers with that five day break and the need to manage two of their veterans as well as the last minute loss of another veteran in Grimes. The result gave the appearance of a team waving the white flag - they looked out of it both physically and mentally from the outset. This could also make or break McQualter’s coaching ambitions so it’s going to be interesting to see if he can get them to reset in the final three rounds.

After a bad start to the year, the Tigers have been OK I think. The AFL did them no favours yesterday and it wouldn't surprise me if they knock over the Saints next Sunday, like they did 7 weeks ago.

Yeah, this guy. His face tells you everything you need to know. Screams at a teenager and gets offended when he gives it back to him.

100% agree with all of the above.

I watched the game (up to half time  stopped after that) and caught the first couple of minutes of the fox half time analysis.

Of the top, Garry Lyon mentions the break and coming off a tough game against us. I thought great, good on him for providing context for their performance.

Then says, paraphrasing, you could see the tigers didn't think they were going to play finals and played accordingly. The implication was exactly what you suggest some might think WJ.

I mean what the?

I'd be furious if I was a tigers fan.

I hate to say it of an dees champion, but Lyon is a peanut.

Probably have to catch up with my local parish priest for confession after support for the cats tonight. Oh well, one does what one must.

If by some miracle WAFL beats Essendon today does that encourage Norff to tank and grab Harley Reid and priority picks?

The bonus % would be nice and may elevate us to second

Didnt Melbourne pick Cam Mills but he was a Swans academy player from Sydney and they got him via the AFL . Dees took second option Clayton Oliver.

we sure did

we also nominated heeney, but then swans matched - with pick 18 or something - and we drafted petracca

There are a large number of us Demonlanders who watch multiple games across the weekend, and most of us are probably on the mature end of the age scale. So over the years we get to see some great footballers who stand out.

I was a huge fan of Paul Kelly from the Swans and would watch Sydney games just to see him.

It's the same with Bontempelli. Watching him makes me love the game. Fair, strong, ridiculously skilful, natural leader, match winner. I put him up near Robbie Flower for the graceful way he plays the game. Last night he was at his best.

Looking ahead I think I’ve got this right (can’t be bothered checking)- in the west we have ‘The Derby’, in SA it is ‘The Showdown’, NSW it is ‘The battle of the Bridge’ (or something like that). I believe the AFL are considering rebranding the ‘Q’ clash in QLD to be called ‘The sQuirrel’ clash’.

  • PREVIEW: North Melbourne

Can you believe it? After a long period of years over which Melbourne has dominated in matches against North Melbourne, the Demons are looking down the barrel at two defeats at the hands of the Kangaroos in the same season. And if that eventuates, it will come hot on the heels of an identical result against the Gold Coast Suns. How have the might fallen? There is a slight difference in that North Melbourne are not yet in the same place as Gold Coast. Like Melbourne, they are currently situated in the lower half of the ladder and though they did achieve a significant upset when the teams met earlier in the season, their subsequent form has been equally unimpressive and inconsistent.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • PREGAME: Rd 18 vs North Melbourne

After four weeks on the road the Demons make their long awaited return to the MCG next Sunday to play in a classic late season dead rubber against the North Melbourne Kangaroos. Who comes in and who comes out?

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
