The Freo or Adelaide games are the only chance, but they'll want pick 1, so no chance really.

Not sure the Eagles read your post.

One kick, to a side at home, playing for finals.

Simpson would have been [censored] himself in the final quarter.

When our initial correspondence occurred, Essendon were leading easily.

Essendon are a hopeless, irrelevant football club, living off past triumphs. 😉

But they don’t want the flag, they want the 1st pick, don’t they?

Why trade a potential gem KPP to get a mid? Computer says no, I don't care how good Reid is.

Reid is a freak!

So you wouldn't go after Reid, mate? And if you would, what would you be prepared to part with?

I would, I’m just nervous that my uneducated opinion is probably wrong.

I’d think pick 4 & 7/8 would do it. Thinking we’d get 7/8 from GC for a collection of 2nd rounders. I think giving up much more might be a bridge too far.

Fair enough mate. I'll back JT in. Has he had a miss with a mid?

Laurie could be his first...

If port get up tonight.....

Thinking we need to T...the north game 1 - keep pick 1 safe in West Coast hands for us to claim AND aim for 4th instead of 3rd to play Pies at mcg week 1.....

Cats do us a solid and get over the Power - yep get that 2nd spot and pressure the Pies for 1st......

I’d happily take on port in  a QF in Adelaide…..no fear of that

I’d prefer it at the G.

Really need the Tigers to get back to winning. GWS have their pick and prefer to get country Vic kids.

Right now they have ND6 and ND12.

Very close to ND4 and ND15…

Laurie is a half forward to be fair and hasn't had a shot quite yet.

I agree with you about Laurie. He played the 1st game this year, struggled and was immediately dropped. I think once you've made the team you should be given 2, preferably 3, games to try to establish yourself. To the Club's credit they at least gave Woewodin a decent run at it (3 games).

Reid looks to be a beautiful mover and is clearly very skilled. The fend offs are exceptional and the player he looks like most is Jai Newcombe. But I don't think Reid will be as big and strong as Petracca, Wines or Martin and he does not look to have the same leap as Petracca.

I have to say, I like the look of Zane Duursma, who looks a protype AFL footballer. He is bigger and looks to have more running and leaping ability than Reid. If the cost to push up the draft order to get Reid is significant, I would prefer we use or picks to trade or take several players.

His leap is fine - took a pretty fair one grab hanger playing for Essendon reserves today.

IMV, he probably won't make it at the MFC, but we'll see.

He's good enough, but he might want more opportunities elsewhere. Contracted for next year so hope he sticks around.

I was huge on Laurie's draft highlights and super-excited when we landed him (proving once again that I have no idea), but it should be noted as part of this discussion that it was likely Taylor had Holmes and Bowey biroed in before a late blindside, and that assessing the 2020 draft crop was seriously tricky.

Besides Sydney academy selection Gulden, it's not like there are any serious midfield claims selected below Bailey. Taylor gets a mulligan on that one, together with the Rosman pick, who we likely wouldn't have selected if successful in our bid to lure Isaac Smith. That last point makes for some interesting what-ifs.

If Smith had hypothetically chosen us to fill our second wing spot, would we have then switched our attention to forward reinforcements a year earlier? McCreery seems like the pick of the bunch selected after Laurie, and very much in the Taylor mould. Wonder where he was on the list? Also MFC 2022 with Smith?

He’ll be number 1. Had an almost under 18s championship with bursts of talent shown across his rotation in mid and up forward.  He’s a genuine ruck rover onballer who can play inside and outside mid. Tough and has pace. Even as a half back, he could setup play and can certainly mark the footy.  He’s the number 1 no doubt.

Agree, I just can’t see a regular spot for him and assume he will look around.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
