You sure it is that simple? I don’t think you can just lose a top 5 pick. Plus players will likely know what awaits newly formed clubs in terms of performance and ladder positions.

Unfortunately I don’t think he’ll be there at pick 4. Hawthorn / Norf will likely grab him before we do.

Where are we getting pick 4 from?

I'm on record not wanting to draft McKercher and the better he is, the stronger my conviction.

If he lives up to expectations he'll be off to captain the inaugural Tasmanian team just when we need him to take the reins from an aging midfield. Yes we'll get good draft compensation but we won't be in the phase needing an 18yo mid.

Bookmark it.

That's some Nostradamus level foresight .I'll take 4 years of mcKercher while our current window and if he reaches the levels you suggest if being a walk up captain for a new Tasmanian team chances are he's helped us Jag another flag. Best available without crystal balling is Taylor's philosophy

McKercher looks pretty small for a midfielder and very left sided.

That's ok you look for the half glass full FT well look for his other inumerable skills and the had full approach.

Looks the offensive option which we need dearly. More fast skilfully in our team the more positive our game plan will be.

We need to get Pick3 if we wish to land Duursma or this kid.

And North get Sanders as well, its beyond a joke.

Only if they select him at 2 or 3 or they trade up into the top 10 with their other picks. They can't match a bid within 40 like everyone else.

North are taking Mckercher and Duursma unless they get pick 1 then it’s Reid and Mckercher. They also are keeping an open mind on Curtin, but that may have just been Clarko playing mind games with West Coast

Interesting.

Both Hawthorn and Bulldogs are said to be looking at mid types. If we don't move up it may look like..

Scenario 1

1. Eagles  - Reid

2. Gold Coast - Walter

3. North - McKercher

4. North - Duursma

5. Hawks - Watson/Sanders

6. Bulldogs - Watson/Sanders

7. Demons - Curtin, O'Sullivan

Scenario 2

1. North - Reid

2. Gold Coast - Walter

3. Eagles - Curtin

4. North - McKercher

5. Hawks - Duursma

6. Bulldogs - Watson/Sanders

7. Demons - Watson/Sanders/O'Sullivan

Reckon the Dogs will take Watson, think we will take Sanders

Surely north would want O’Sullivan, take Ben McKays spot. They are desperate for more of a lockdown defender. Rather than curtin

They have a surplus of potential midfield stars

Could be perfect for them swapping 3 with our 6 plus our future first ??

Norf have to go tall, right?

Curtin has several strings to his bow and potential across all 3 lines. As said on another thread, North are into him and whilst that may be Clarkson playing mind games with West Coast, he has let it be known he sees Curtin as part of their future spine.

Whilst he has several attributes and could be anything don’t think for 1 minute he can’t play a lockdown 1 v 1 roll.

Watch his game for WA vs Allies when they moved him onto Walter. There’s also several WAFL seniors games to review him

So you'd still have Curtin ahead of O'Sullivan, mate?

Was very impressed with Curtin's performance on Walter.  The other one that stuck in my mind was how he played against Vic Country. Outstanding game.  Curtin and Reid going blow for blow to try and get their teams over the line. That high in the draft you look for players that can influence the game and help turn momentum in your favour. Curtin and Reid showed this in spades that night.

Would happily have Curtin if he's there at pick 6/7.

Curtin helped coach one of the development squads at Claremont this year , mate of mine worked with him and said he was fantastic with the players no ego and fully engaged with the program

Very hard thing to read, but does he come accross as a kid who could move to Melbourne and cope okay? if he's there at pick 6 he'd be the obvious choice, but i can only see him sliding because of go home concerns, he's too good to not go in the first few picks otherwsie i'd have thought

I think he’s been prepared for the last few years to move interstate and without being 100% certain I think he’s the type that will embrace the club which picks him and want to build something special. Very loyal person to his teammates

Well, if WC don't want to play ball with us so that we can get Reid, then more than happy for us to pick Curtin at 6.

Veteran Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin returned to the training track to bring you the following observations from Gosch's Paddock this morning. Beautiful morning for training. The dew has dried, out from AAMI, quiet chatting. Maysie does his heart symbol. 7 in rehab, Turner, Hore, Sestan, BBB, Petty, Spargo and Schache. All in runners. Melky weighted and change of angles work. Salem has his individual program. White cap (no contact), Howes, Woewodin and Sparrow

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
