I’m guilty of turning the TV off with 8 mins to go and 24 points down, Brisbane were doing it comfortably. What a win!

Loved Riv, Max was enormous, Melksham’s last quarter was huge but that grab on the wing 1v3 was the stuff of legend. Brisbane should have won that contest and the game from there

Yeah flicked over to the Tour de France, had enough of the smug lions, only to realise the riding hadn’t started and flicked back.. thank god

Let’s not forget how important Brown is to our structure. He takes the best defender and allows other players in our f50 to flourish.

Well played browny.

Third quarter.

Brisbane kick their 5th goal for the quarter.

My mate (a St Kilda supporter) and I head outside so he can have a vape. I've seen enough.

We chat about who fills the top 8 outside of the top 3.

We can't settle on list.

I hear the crowd roar.

"Brisbane has kicked another," I quipped.

No, it was Kozzie.

Another roar.

"Surely that was Brisbane?"

Right I was. Hipwood.

And again, a roar.

"Damn... Brisbane?"

No: it was Gawn.

"Okay... Okay. Are we on?"

Roar.

"Again!"

Alas, a Brisbane goal.

Roar.

"What is going on? Who was that?"

Another Petracca goal.

We head inside for the final quarter. Shortly after the quarter starts, Daniher, having an annoyingly good game, kicks a goal.

"You're done," my mate tells me.

"Yeah, obviously," I admit.

10 minutes pass, a Pickett goal.

Five more minutes, and another.

I joke to my mate.

"There's five minutes left. We could do a Collingwood."

He laughed.

"I can't see it," he says.

"Me neither," I say in defeat.

A stoppage... or so I thought?

"Viney...Viney... VINEY!"

I proceed to absolutely lose my [censored].

"GAME ON. GAME OOOOON. LET'S GOOOOOOO."

My mate, now on board, is slightly more optimistic.

"You need this clearance," he says.

"We have time," I snap back. "We got this."

Kick. Stoppage. Kick. Stoppage. Kick....MILKSHAKE!

"He's got it," my mate whispers.

"He's got it," I whisper back.

He lines it up. Cool. Calm. Collected. A little tap. A straight kick.

"LIIIIIOOOOONNNNNSS," the drunk Melbourne supporter next to me starts chanting, jeering the surrounding Lions supporters who, merely 5 minutes earlier, had prematurely started their victory chant.

"It's not over yet," I calmy said.

"How much? HOW MUCH?!?" My new drunk friend was suddenly anxious.

"33 seconds."

The remaining seconds are a blur... Lever's mark/high free kick seals it.

I lost my voice in the preceding seconds as the siren rang and A Grand Old Flag rang through the speakers.

Hello world. I now have a raging sore throat and no voice.

Congratulations Praha. That there is a script for “Football Porn” Just needs to be narrated by Barry White.

Petty was on Hipwood as much as Lever early, and that’s a pretty normal Hipwood stat line.

5 intercepts is a bad day for Jake. 80% efficiency isn’t a surprise when you don’t take any risks or provide any drive with the footy. 189m gained, that’s very ordinary.

Considering he played on 52% game time I doubt it.  And at the game it was definitely the lever match up.  Petty was taking Gunston.

Lever isn't a player you want kicking, he shoukd handball every time. Especially when you have May, Salem, Bowie around you

What about how right on the final siren Hipwood was trying to claim the mark when he clearly had his arm high around Levers neck and the fact that Lever marked the ball in the side of his body first only for Hipwood to take it out of his hands.

What a [censored].

Did give me a good laugh though.

A thrilling win, the Dees definitely showed some real resilience and fight. Could end up being season defining for both clubs. Impressive when you consider no Oliver and no Fritsch! Imagine taking out Neal and Cameron from the Brisbane side.

I thought we were very panicky through the middle stages of that game. But late in the third and down by four and a bit goals I think, we really started to settle down.

Mmm, we're paying$7.50.

Called up, sorry sir this bet is now changed to $8. Do you want to proceed.

Yes I do, yes I do.

As good as Smith was when he came on, I think Tomlinson is a better matchup for Tex.

Agree and keep Smith as the sub. He is a very versatile player to have as the sub.

Look at how people respond on here, when someone takes a risk and it doesnt come off. People don't realise that taking risks irrespective of outcomes, helps fosters decision making in high stress moments (finals). BUT to then get severely criticised and have the 'shame' experience for chosing the right option (never the wrong option) and it not coming off, is what causes athletes to go into their shell.

Supporters can't have it both ways (but they do...)

Brilliant post, summed it up pretty well at least they tried to change things up, all it came down to is positioning, execution and running patterns.

Max was a mountain all night. I only fear for his longevity in the game as his body has been taking an absolute beating (illegally so) for the majority of his career.

This is why we need to keep Grundy and not trade him like some posters are saying.

to the goodwin haters, the melksham haters and the general naysayers. time to have a good hard look at yourselves.

Go dees!

In the match thread I made a post in the first quarter bagging Melksham, but almost immediately edited to get rid of the negativity. And then he goes and does that. What a bloody champion effort. I'm not a big Milkshake fan, but that last quarter certainly brought all the boys to the yard.

We have now beaten collingwood and brisbane at the G in the last month, 2 of the three supposedly "top teams" which the media fawns over as the only ones who can win it. And we only lost to port, the third of those teams, by under a goal at their home ground, in pouring rain. We are incredibly underrated by everyone (including myself and all dees fans who are just scarred from a lifetime of disappointment) but we are still in the premiership hunt up to our eyeballs and this win will only further secure the belief. Our last 6 games are against adelaide, richmond, norf, carlton, hawks, and swans. Four of them are the MCG. We're going to be blasting our way into September!!!!!

May was next to Melksham with his arm around him when singing the team song. I think that says a lot.

May also gave Melksham a big hug onfield at the end of the game when the handshakes were happening.

Absolutely.  I have always seen Max's life span in the game now increased substantially because Grundy is on board.  He will take over when Max retires .  In the meantime what a weapon to have ready-made.

Max was all class on his comments RE; Grundy post - match

Jack Viney’s goal is the perfect example of why he’s first picked every week. He ripped that ball out of McInerney’s grasp like a Lion taking food from a Hyena. He then slots it on his non preferred. In 53 years of watching football I’ve never seen anything like it. He’s a beast and I love him for that. I can’t believe I ever criticised him. That was the most fun I’ve had at the footy in years. I was up and about, loud and proud and just sensed a comeback. Anyway now for Adelaide.

Just might be a season turning win! We’ve already been good this year and were well placed, but like the 2021 win at KPark against the Cats, must build awesome belief!

Fantastic to be at the “G” and see our leaders  in Max, Viney, Trac & Brayshaw step up in the last.

Bl..Dy Melksham what a left foot snap then a brilliant mark and pressure goal, absolutely fantastic and just great for him!

Rivers was also great in the last taking it on!

Kossie with 3 and a bit of his electric magic on show again.

Doesn’t it make the weekend feel GRAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
