Plus they have KP. It is by far the biggest home ground advantage in the comp.

Not forgetting they had the greatest luck getting Ablett , scarlett and hawkins  in father son rule  which is now changed

The word is hubris. Total, self-absorbed arrogance to rest so many starting 22 players believing the win was already in the bag. I LOATHE Carlton but glad they won tonight.

It's a pity more Essendon supporters can't be there to witness this.

Same. Hit him in the head. Not a good look.

Even if the first two were injured, which is definitely possible, why would you make 7 changes, four of which are unforced? Seems idiotic and it was.

That’s usually a fine, but given the fixture it looks more like a week to me.

Particularly because the bombers have eagles and north coming up so any percentage loss now is good.

Commentators talking like Geelong have the flag sewn up.

The sickening love for that side from the media makes me want to vomit. They have been bog ordinary this year. Let’s see how they go against Brisbane, Port and Pies.

port didnt give a rats about todays match, thats why they rested them  👌

Essendon might play finals by default.

They are going to get flogged in the first week - looking forward to it!

Very risky playing with form like that IMO.

Curious, why do you say that? From my perspective, those 7 players all get a week to rest, recuperate, and get some time off, to avoid knocks (and then ON) in to the legs... They had to fit it in somewhere once Top 2 was 'sewn' up, at least hopefully from their perspective.

Another 5-7 will come back (and out) this week and freshen up some others without losing continuity.

We'll still beat them though :)

Think I said this a couple of weeks ago, but Cats are our biggest threat to 4th place. Only saving grace is that they play Collingwood, Brisbane at the Gabba and Port (but at GMHBA) in the last 6 weeks.

True, and we would need to drop possibly 3 games, can’t see that happening

If the Cats take our place in the 4, they can have it and we can all think about 2024 - because we would have been terrible in the last 6 weeks if that happens.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
