I think we’re right to be underdogs. I don’t care how out of form Geelong is, and I don’t care that they lost their most recent game at GMHBA. Winning down there is tough.

Tonight is all about territory IMO. Geelong are a bottom 4 side this year for conceding scores from opposition inside 50s. Even though Clarry misses, if we can get on top of their midfield with no Dangerfield and Guthrie, and get the ball camped in our forward half, my hope is we will get enough opportunities to score. But if we are down in stoppages, I can’t help but fear that Cameron will return to his early season form and/or Hawkins will have one of those infuriating nights where he slots goals from everywhere.

I really want to see a good game from Kozzie tonight. He's been poor for the past two months, averaging less than a goal a game and a touch under 9 disposals. If he were being judged on performance and not potential, he'd be dropped. He needs to stop flying for marks and stay down ready to crumb. He hasn't marked a single one of those silly attempts, but rather has cost the team 20+ scoring opportunities across the season I'd wager. He's such a great talent and a proven match winner. He needs to get back into form if we're to challenge at the pointy end of the year.

Heading down the highway again where I hold a 2-11-1 record in terms of MFC success. What's the definition where you keep doing something and expect a different result?

Highlights include watching us kick 4 goals in an entire game of footy in 2013 in pouring rain, Getting beaten after the siren, getting beaten by 80 points the following year where we all thought we were flag contenders and fare-welling the coach that got us back to AFL relevance with an 111 point belting.

(by some sheer stroke of luck or destiny I pulled out of 186)

Other than that I'm supremely confident.

I reckon I'm 1 and 7. I was there when the wizard wore red boots and didn't get a touch, losing after the siren, getting done by 80 in the rain, and of course our famous win in 2015. I reckon I'll be 2 and 7 by the end of the night.

But it’s different when you’re the grandparent right? Aren’t kids generally well-behaved with grandparents despite being little [censored] at home?

Kids/grandkids makes no difference.

If you're a big bully like me, you just threaten them. Works every time.

can’t figure out which one of Petty or Smith will play back

Petty, we’ve experimented with different set ups but ultimately 2 talls plus Lever works for reasons already discussed on here, and as good as Thommo was two weeks ago, Petty is a gun. I like the look of the fwd line as inexperienced as our two keys talls are (having Grundy / Gawn rotate through the fwd line allows us to do this). There’s a feeling of youth and excitement about it but ultimately what I like is we’re back to being mobile again. We have a great mix of players with Chandler taking his chances and Kosi who is well over due for a big one. Then there’s Fritsch who is possibly one of the most underrated players in the game. (I base this on his inability to get picked in an AA team, a team that I keep telling myself each year I care less about). Out of all of our learnings the quick mobile fwd line is the biggest so far.

Sorry, unfortunately my model flipped to Geelong by 1.2 points following team announcements! It will update again once subs are announced.

I'm going for neither, with Petty and Smith being Plan B and C if needed down back.

Might I add, this is a tremendous opportunity to kill two birds (cats) with one stone:

1) Be responsible for Geelong officially throwing in the towel on season 2023, and

2) Ruining the 300th game celebration of Chris Scott - a la Corey Enright

GO DEES!

I wouldn't characterise it as flip flopping.

It has changed a bit, but that is par for the course with betting markets, but had remained close to even money - we were slight favs and now they are.

Personally I think the current odds (cats 1.88 dees 1.92) are pretty close to th3 true odds.

The late support for the cats might perhaps a late out for the dees (that the sort of inside info that can result in the pros jumping in)

Prior to the Dangerfield injury Geelong were favourites (and the presumption that Oliver would be okay to play for us).  We became the slight favourites.

Just guessing, perhaps it’s swung back to Geelong when it became known that Oliver was not playing.  All in all the odds seem pretty tight or even or whatever the correct terminology is. GO DEES!

Will be looking for some different patterns tonight.

And the inevitable rule of the week.

My prediction on that would be we win the [censored]'s by ten including pushing/touching the back area, touching the ball whilst in front position means an instant mark and pushing in danger, a new rule , but should be there ASAP.

I will accept 5/1

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
