Agree with most posters re: changes.

As long as we can curtail Cameron we should win at that dunghole.

Could Bowey play Spargos role in the forward line? He is similar in that he is elite by foot and cool under pressure. Can kick it further than spargo and is more likely to convert his opportunities

I'd back him to be able to play the role.

How insane is it that Geelong have 75,000 members, Melbourne have 65,000, and they'll play at a stadium in front of 21,000 people next week? How the AFL signed off on this is ridiculous.

It's bad for the sport. All this garbage about growing the game and you have at least 30,000 people who can't get in to see 2 top 8 sides play each other.

I hope someone points it out to the media. It's an absolute own goal by the AFL. Move it to Marvel if you want, but move it. I struggle to think of another game where they are wilfully locking out so many people - Geelong fans included.

Exactly. The last 2 premiership teams on a Friday night playing at the rubbish ground. Totally unfair we have to play there every year without fail.

I wonder whether the shape of Alphabet Stadium impacts our selection at all. Will be interesting to see.

I think we need to have a look at a forward line with all of JVR, Smith and Petty in it. All very good competitors so can probably let one of Spargo or Chandler make way?

Love Bowza but not sure if he comes in immediately unless they give Pig another freshen up. Perhaps Thommo goes out to make way, with the option for Petty to swing back if needed....but I'd prefer we stick to 3 talls.

Oliver comes in but for who, not sure.

Funny how much depth we seem to have all of a sudden 🤔😅

Agree. I'd been saying Smith and Tomlinson were playing to keep their spot from Petty. However, Smith has impressed so much with his defensive efforts (especially his desperate chasing & tackling), he's endangering our small forwards.

Has Geelong released our allocated 10 seats yet?

Oliver has to come straight back in and I think Bowey also comes straight back in. Not just because he was in season best form last week but also because how important Salems role was this week, I wouldn’t be surprised if Geelong put some time into Salem when we play them. Bowey is probably the next best kick coming out of defence and maybe needed to take on some of the quarterback duties.
Haven’t put any thought into who may be dropped yet.

I said this in the post-match but I am hopeful that the decision to sub Spargo off, and the lack of impact having one fewer small forward had on us, is a sign that we're thinking now about dropping one small forward and adding a midfielder.

IMO it should be Oliver for Spargo. We lose little forward of the ball and don't have anyone else to drop who is more worthy.

I love Hibberd and have loved his season, and I think right now he holds his spot over Bowey. I'm not sure there's a spot for Bowey anywhere else right now, other than perhaps as sub.

If Petty's fit, I think he gets a run at Casey first. JVR and Smith are doing enough right now. I think we have to reward them and let Petty convince us that he is a forward.

So for me it's Oliver for Spargo and that's all.

Joel Smith won’t get dropped while he’s tackling in the F50 like he did today.

Anyone else think Salem is in trouble for that strike to the guts in the last quarter?

From what I remember seeing of Bowey as a junior he wasn’t really a natural at making play when he was at half forward or at pressuring. Looked better on the wing

I wouldn’t mind seeing him as the 3rd winger and a very high half forward coming up to stoppages and even as a midfielder post centre bounce.

More of the role Nibbler

But I’d have to trial it at Casey first.

And you reckon Langdon and Hunter are exposed for height on the wings!

They are at times, but Bowey is a much stronger aerial player than Hunter at this stage of his career no matter the height difference.

I actually agree with you that we have a weakness there, but Bowey doesn't solve it. I think we're too short overall still.

Spargo needs to come out for Oliver.  The Tomlinson and Hibberd combination worked fine in defence.

Didn’t see “the Salem incident” - did channel 7 mention it?

No doubt Christian in his infinite impartial wisdom will see the need “to make a statement” on gut punches … “is there a Melbourne player we can use as an example?”

To be honest I have no idea who will be the ‘ins’ and ‘outs’ for the Geelong game.

What I do know is that the football department has a tough job coming up and I as always will trust their judgment.

For the first time since we beat Geelong and then Richmond (or the other way around) in 2021, I can put my hand on my heart and say that we are once again ‘serious’ contenders.  (In 2022 even after winning the first 10 games the best I could think is that we were contenders) GO DEES!!

That change would allow Brayshaw to play part time on the wing and give us more height if needed.

Or even Gus full time wing and use Hunter and Langdon across half forward.

It’s how Geelong win games… without that ground they are just middle of the road over the last 10 years.

One bloke who you have to feel a bit sorry for is Blake Howes who is out there at Casey putting his hand up nearly every week for a game and he just can’t crack it for a long awaited debut. I guess you could say much the same for Taj Woewoedin. It’s hard breaking into this team.

Are posters actually serious when they suggest dropping Pickett?
