What's the definition of hit out to advantage?  If it is hit directly to a player who is sure to be tackled instantly I wouldn't consider that to be an advantage (except when a team is trying to ice the clock).

You would assume it would have to result in a meaningful possession to count.

It appears to be a fanciful stat for the sake of having a stat to valorise ruckmen when actually it's down to the efficiency of mids getting the ball forward to a team mate on the outside

Once again, Demonland comes to the rescue of the English language. "Latter" should only be used to refer to the second of two options. The correct word to use when there are three or more would be "last".

You're welcome.

Gawn’s tap to Trac for a goal in the third quarter against North was as hitout to advantage as you’ll get.

How about a hit out to the oppo's advantage? They have learned how to shark Maxie's hit outs better than us.

A better definition would be a hit out that, even if not to a team mate, does not allow the oppos to have an opportunity for a clear disposal.

Yeah "Net Hit Outs to Advantage" is a much better stat (ie how many more hit outs to advantage than hit outs to disadvantage).

Can't be fine without a ruck hitting the ball first on many occasions to a favourable spot in the centre.

I'm not surprised that Max isn't high on the list for hitouts that actually go to our mids

He is in the top 10 so is high!!

This is an aspect of Grundy 's game that is very noticeable when watching. He's done well to work with his teammates in a short period of time.

Grundy is a quality ruckman. He has max covered from a ruck perspective. Of course max is brilliant around the ground and there’s no better contested mark in the league.

If Max could improve his goal kicking and Grundy, his marking, it would make a big difference.

This doesn't surprise me, when Grundy wins a clean hitout it's usually to a mid our at least into space that give a mid the best chance to get it.

Max and Tim English provide much more than hit outs to advantage. IMO a rucks around the ground work is way more important these days.

Correct. Gawn needs to be measured on his contested marking as well, which is amongst the best in the game. Not to mention his insane work rate for a guy his size.

Teams have spent years trying to feed off his tap work, so it's little wonder that it's no longer as advantageous to us as it once was.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
