CASEY: Rd 06 vs Box Hill Hawks

KC from Casey

Recommended Posts

Jefferson's started his first season pretty nicely for mine.

A little patchy, drifting in & out, but surely that's to be expected.  The good patchy is all class and reads the ball nicely.

Starting to get to a few more contests and even relieving down back at times.

Need some patience with the tall fellas but i think we might be a little surprised here.

Reminds me a little of the Duke with a better technique in front of the sticks.  Exciting prospect!

Talking about exciting propects..... Ollie Sestan wow.

Pretty raw and much to learn but jeepers this bloke could be a real star if he works super hard on the track & gym.

The goal on the move at the ball up just outside the goal square in the 3rd.... as Bruce would say..." Deelicious!".

Duursma was excellent at times also.

It seems to me that Shache was playing the tmac role against nth. Is he or was he ever a contested mark KPF?

Petty seems to have that abilty at both ends. Max playing forward seems like the solution to our 2nd tall problem.

If shache gets to run around is tomlinson an option? He seems to be able to compete better in the contest.

Perhaps he could roam and link up?

I'm going to be keeping an eye on Joel Smith for the next few weeks just to see what happens, because he has had a slow build up and was very close to the GF two years ago. Smokey with nothing to lose and experience.

I’m watching the replay

Early in q2 McDonald and brown pushed high to half back leaving smith to be the main “tall”

he looked good as a lead mark fwd

he has pace to get separation and a leap

if he can stay on the park he might be a handful

JVR needs a big leading target / decoy and someone to take the number 1 defender off of him to give him a bit more of a chance at clunking a few deep.

Goody was probably hoping someone would stick their hand up against the Hawks on Sunday.  Macca probably the closest and not far off but possibly a bridge too far (this week).

Personally i don't think it's the Shak either.  BBB probably missed the opp on Sunday as well.

Macca might just be the best of a bad bunch and get the call up.  His work up the ground was first rate in the 2nd half.

Then there was Melk.  Easily BOG and you would think should be straight in.  But for whom?

Expect Jefferson to have a big post season at the end of the year and return bigger and stronger and near AFL ready.

As it is, he’s the leading goalkicker at Casey so far this year.

Ollie Sestan should look different as well after a pre season.

Put a second team in Geelong, I say…

And of Cours ethey would want a multimillion state taxpayer stadium of their own 😠

Mentioned Geraldton as an option. They have stadium so ready to go on that front

But is that stadium worth $200,000,000 which seems to be the prerequisite (at least was from Gill, not sure about Dill)

Absolutely now way a Darwin based team could run a full AFL winter season.  Climate is just not conducive as we have already seen too many times.

I read that Eddie McGuire was saying he thinks the Giants should play 11 games in Canberra and 11 games in Western Sydney. Wtf has he been smoking?

So would Colonwood be required to play every year either in WS or Canberra?  Not bloody likely.

I agree with you about Sestan. Doesn't get a lot of the ball but a natural footballer and goalkicker. Has a lot of potential and the upside is enormous given he hasn't had the support though the elite juniors others have had.

What I like about all our developing forwards is they can kick. JVR, Jefferson, Schache (and obviously Fritsch) are all excellent set shot convertors. I don't know whether Schache will make it. Probably unlikely given the number of chances he had before joining Melbourne. But I hope the selectors give him a decent run at it. Why do people keep asking about Tomlinson as a forward? Let's be honest. The only reason he is still on our list is that no other club wanted him last trade period. For me Turner should be the next in line as a backline replacement. And I'd even prefer him up forward to Tomlinson being trialled there.

We all recognise Smith's athletic abilities which is why he's still on Melbourne's list despite being perpetually injured. I like him up forwards. Too mercurial and inconsistent as a backline player. Just not a lockdown player.

Just mentioned Thomlison in terms of link role not as KPF. Shache seemed to lack presence

He was recruited as a link player, specifically to play on the wing, and that turned out to be a mistake. He is versatile but I don't think he's good enough in any role to be in the team. Now to be fair, I think when he was in as a replacement for Lever that was a mistake in selection because he's a lock-down player, not an interceptor like Lever.

Would seem to me he will play a lot liked Fritta. But if he can lead properly he will get some good passes as well.

Whatever both do this season they will double their output and skill in 2024. Very exciting prospects along with Howes  and Laurie who has improved heaps.

And kicking 50+ goals a year consistently, which most key forwards would be thrilled about.
He is the best medium forward in the game. Period. Don’t change who he is or what he is.

Why try and fix something that's  not broke? Crazy!
Fritta is so good because he is our designated 3rd or 4 th forward with a 3rd or 4th defender trying to outs kill some good to reasonable defenders .

Most underrated forward in the AFL and so good he is OURS.

No one please not our full time forward answer. But get him those 100 games please. Sub fine.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
