This is Melkshams level.. at VFL. Great for the kids coming through and an extra experience body to help out but that's it.

His time at AFL level is limited, let's keep it that way.

I saw a clip of Melksham’s goal where he kicked it up to himself. McDonald looked like he could barely walk, let alone run.

Has he improved since then or is he injured?

Thanks 'titan', was just reading through and going to post this.

He just can't run anymore, never been agile but could cover distance...now he's just jogging around.

I don't think he's come back well from the foot injury.

Perhaps, but might be worth trying to get him to 100 games. He has kids and you never know.

It will include 2 more games as sub.

This thread tl;dr :

"Goodwin needs to reward players that are playing well ..... Wait, no! Don't reward him! He only plays well at VFL level!"

Tom got some ball around the ground, but BBB and he were poor as key forwards again.

BBB appears very slow and lumbering.

Haven't watched the game yet. What happened to Dunstan only 11 disposals?

Went off with a leg injury. Maybe the calf, early in the third, I think.

Both are now...Tommy picked up a couple through experience but never looked out of a jog.

What happened to BBB? he looked a Coleman contestant during the first two rounds of the season.... It is all but gone now.

To be fair I wouldn’t say that Melksham hasn’t been rewarded both for good and ordinary form.

I wasn’t able to watch today. How did Durssma go today? He could be within range with Freeo’s pick.

If his form warrants him being selected then fine, but if there's a genuine choice between Melksham and a first or second year player then the priority should be to the younger player. Forget the father-son situation.

Can Tomlinson play forward?

I appreciate recent AFL form show's he probably doesn't have a place in the Melbourne backline but why would we be considering him up forward? At least as a backman he can contribute at Casey.

Went off injured.

Only 9 possessions today but you can see he has talent.

IMO another key forward has been and still is, our biggest priority.

Jefferson is a fair way off, Petty doesn’t seem to be a goal scoring key forward, Schache is provably a temporary fill in, Max for some reason can’t adjust his kicking for goal to the obvious kick, of aiming for the right side points, BBB and Tom appear unless a big change occurs, to be near the end and JVR is a young kid, who can’t do it on his own.

Chandler appears to have solved the needed extra small forward role.

Melk deserves another sub game on the back of today, probably ahead of Harmes.

Lovely day in Wonthaggi - not such a common event. Casey welcomed back skipper Mitch White, Harmes (after subbing last night), Melksham, Woewodin(?). Draft hopeful Zane Duursma also. Moniz-Wakefield and Jimmy Munro (still) missing. Scrappy first qtr with Casey having the better of the play, but not converting. Casey pretty much maintained the ascendancy after that. Some casual AFL listed observations/opinions… Melksham most creative and effective fwd, could have finished with 6 or 7 with a bit of straighter shooting - too good for this level. Joel Smith up forward looked lively at times as well as his 3 goal burst in the second - only fwd that came clean in the air at the ball. Still not convinced though. Tmac got a bit of it mostly pushing up the ground, but his ground game and short passing were underwhelming, as was BBBrown, who struggling to have any impact. Wouldn’t think either are looking at senior duties any time soon. Farris-White swapped with Bell in the ruck and was monstered by Meek, but kept at it and had a couple of wins late in the game. Tall lad - looked to be same height as Gawny, who was in attendance along with Lever and Chandler (and Chocco) that I could see. Think Tim English in early days - light build atm. Thought Turner was our most solid defender in the air and on the ground - the defender I would elevate if we needed one. Looks same height as Tomlinson, who had an Ok game but his ground game made me nervous. Deakin Smith played one of his best games that I have seen. - composed, intercepting, attacking. Woewodin moved well, impacts the game - did have a fair of bench time. Howes not prominent but did what he needed to do. Harmes bullocked his way through the game in his usual attacking, crash-through style - with the usual odd caught in possession. Bill Laurie did some nice things but wasn’t prominent. Jed Adams looked the most composed I have seen him - getting the hang of the level, moves well and raking kick. Jefferson was rarely involved, went behind the ball at times, but showed signs of smarts when he did, and kicked a nice set shot - but a long way off. Dunstan went off with a knee mid-game, was hard at it but not his dominant self from the previous week. Sestan bobbed up here and there, snapped a nice goal, looks to be defending better. Zane Duursma looks tallish and a bit lightly built - bit like Howes - moved well but didn’t impact much with his minimum ground time. The Casey lads had their usual hard crack - George Grey probably the best of them. White and Buntine showed poise under pressure. Other highlights were TMac kicking the ball into the camera scissor lift cage above behind the goals, and the footy going over the clubroom roof, and another on the table tennis club roof and getting stuck behind a roof sign. Overall and enjoyable day and a good result.

Agree - two games off 100 with Dees…we should give him those two at least, been a Good Samaritan who deserves at least that.

Tend to agree - but very hard to find .should pick best around in next years draft . Ut also try to develop Jefferson whom shows good promise. We also need a good mid to cover Oliver, Petracca and co.

McDonald struggling to push forward is probably not the sigh of someone that's going to break into the senior side anytime soon.

I think he'd just copped a knock, but that's truly some old man stuff and nothing like McDonald in full flight that made him so dangerous at his peak.

He looks bloody sore, is it his foot again?

What do people think about Woewodin? Out of contract at the end of the season. Seems a fair way back in terms of selection. Will he make it? Will he play any senior games this season? Will we offer him an extension?

I suspect he won't play this season, but we will offer him a one-year extension. He appears to have improved a lot, and he's much better than when we drafted him - which was a speculative pick anyway and no other club was going to draft him. Unfortunately for him, no spots have opened up.

Liked what Ive seen at Casey and in pre season.... DEFINATE keeper

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
