Good luck to jvr . Hope there isn't a pile on here if he dosen't tear it up.

Some people's Expectations I feel are ridiculously high.

At least we aren't paying him $87,000 per markย ๐Ÿคช

nice!

Hope the adjustment to the game plan is along the lines of taking the game on- aggressive one on one, fast direct footy, through the corridor whenever possible. Take risks, donโ€™t become predictable. Hope the team backs themselves in. We must become the hunters.

As someone said in an earlier post, we will know which side turns up in the first 10 minutes of the game.

You'd think after 18 months the coach would know how to correctly pronounce van Rooyen's name.ย  The captain doesn't know either.

I suppose it's up to van Rooyen to correct them.ย  But if in doubt you could always ask.

I once worked with a guy who called me David. I didn't correct him straight away and then it got to the point where it would have been awkward to correct him and then I guess I just became David.

No is asking him to go out and take 5 contested marks. Just be a target to bring the ball to ground or go and give a chop out done back. Watching McInerney sprint forward while Grundy laboured was damming footage.

He struggled to do both on the weekend. I'll cut him a little slack from that but now there's no excuses now for Sydney.

I'm backing him in to do wellย

He's also coming off 12 months of no footy & it was commented on here a number of times in pre-season how far behind the other big guys he is in running drills at training. Like labouring really far behind.ย ย

His 2nd half was much improved against Brisbane but again, we need to temper expectations. He's not Gawn and won't play like it - either on the ground, in transition, in the ruck or in the air.ย

Pies fans were very clear at the time of the trade that his major shortcoming is that he is very limited in the air (let alone taking marks, he really struggles to contest to bring it to ground as its a different type of strength profile to down-low).

This can be overcome if you have enough contested marking players elsewhere around the ground to make use of BGs different strengths elsewhere. It can't be overcome if you expect him to provide the same presence that Gawn has provided as nigh on the best contested mark in the league over the last 5 years.ย  ย ย

Is there any truth to Ladhams being out or is it a matter of a DL poster or two getting their wires crossed?

I've seen or heard nothing to suggest he's out, so I'd expect him to be playing, as much as it would be handy for Sydney not to have a recognised ruck.

So is JVR coming in for Gawn, or are we going to go a bit smaller, swap JVR for TMac, and leave Gawn's spot to a mid/smaller player?

I can't see them leaving JVR taking the 2nd best defender which would either be McCartin or Rampe.

I think having two extra experienced key forwards next to him helps.

It's going to be a fascinating team selection this week.

I am wondering if Tommo stays in as well as May, so we can play Lever in a purely third man up intercept role in the absence of Gawn.ย

That leaves Grundy and TMac to share the ruck duties, with JVR potentially taking a few forward half ruck contests.ย

Yeah it was me, I'm sure I read somewhere where he was in doubt, but seems not the case. Can anyone confirm T. Macs Status.Form wise he should be dropped but if his foot is playing up who ??then is second ruck OPTION??

With TMac's current form there's half a chance JVR gets their 2nd best defender even if TMac plays.

I hear you though, no TMac would put heaps of pressure on JVR. I suspect TMac gets another game and will be asked to do the relief rucking.

Now that it's confirmed the second coming is playing I'd likely leave TMac in so he can ruck with Grundy. I want JVR settling in as a key forward, leading, marking, busting packs and then collecting the spillage and slotting it through around his body from 40metres on the Members HFF, Punt Rd end. Now that's a high five your mate moment right there!

But the point if that particular analysis was, I think, that he wasn't at, or even trying to get to, where he was needed - or where his opponent was getting to?

But prove me/them/all wrong Brodie!

Goodwin's presser: reference to 'looking at transition' at training this week, 'to play to Brodie's strengths'. Also references, thankfully, to 'tinker' and 'change' and 'better', in a context of specific study and learnings from previous Swans games.

The proof of those puddings, however...

Given weโ€™re playing Sunday, tonightโ€™s team will likely include 4 ins and 1 out (Max). We know JVR is playing, so I think the other three will be May, Hibberd, and Jordan.ย

Anyone know anything about May's scan today?

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
