I don't get it.

How on earth do we have a 2x All Australian ruckman surrounded by star midfielders only to get smashed in the centre clearances?

God even Ashcroft was bulling the likes of Oliver ans Harmes. So hard to watch.

I have no doubt part of it was the conditions. It's no excuse but we were fumbly AF and they were clean.

So many times Trac was the first to the ball after a Grundy hit out but he couldn't collect it. Then Neale or McCluggage or Ashcroft would collect it and clear it.

but we still had stars: PetrOliver, Brown kicked another bag, Fridge, Lever, Tom Petty, Grundy, Brayshaw, Langdon ... that's a handy side.

Pickett is a 2-3 goals difference to our team.

May stops about 3-4 goals a game.

Gawn simply refuses to let us get smashed around clearances.

They still absolutely would have made a huge difference.

Putting aside the farce towards the end, and our brief flurry after it, tonight we were totally dominated in every aspect of the game, including those that we pride ourselves on.  How much of that was related to the injury to our skip?  We will never know, but I’d say a fair bit.  We looked completely ‘shell shocked’!

I’m totally gutted by the result, but on a more positive note, if the Bears can turn it around from last week to this, then we can do the same next week.  Do Dees!

I hope it was a wake up call. Last season we got to 10 wins in a row but we gradually atrophied away to getting there and we were never a great side from then on. Hopefully like getting a monkey off our backs.

Another consolation prize. They didn’t score 100 points for the game.

and it looked like a 10-goal thrash

I was really disappointed in Viney tonight, thought he would be champing at the bit.

I drop Harmes and TMac for Hibberd and Van Rooyen.

Well, it's tough now for JVR, because unless he's playing second ruck, it's likely TMac will keep his spot to play second ruck to Grundy.

I don't care about the result I just want Max to be ok.

I seriously don't think we could've played worse, nothing went right, we just bombed away, players were fumbling and second to the footy, giving away stupid free kicks. And for all that Brisbane didn't really put us away, even before the power failure. We won't play that bad again but we need Maxy he is so integral to our structure and heart.

We all get upset ..I get that. But we are by no means perfect …& we showed in 12 mins what we are capable of ..still. Grundy got better & will improve a lot quicker in Max’s absence ..Fritta started to work his way into the game. I just don’t get how as supporters we tip bucketloads on the players and predict doom & gloom 2 games in…

Hard agreement with that. Just to be clear - I don't want to seem like I'm predicting doom and gloom. We're a team of stars and this one game isn't going to make or break our season. If anything, I think we'll come back even harder; I'd be worried if I was Sydney.

I just can't understand where that last 12 minutes was at any other point in the game? We're 30 points down at three quarter time - surely you send the players out with the same message as after the power outage. Drop the eyes. Play risky. Switch it up. But it just wasn't there, and I cannot fathom why?

It's not their first rodeo, and it's not like they haven't done it before. Someone else said it earlier - it's like some of the guys pick and choose when to kick it up a gear?

Edit - I also agree, "pissweak" was a poor choice of word. None of the guys out there are that. My emotion got the better of me there.

Besides getting mauled in the middle until the last 5 minutes, the other thing that happened all night was Brisbane players, playing in front. Didn’t matter if it was our backline or forward line, they seemed to always play in front.

There were other things that were poor but when it comes down to it, you aren’t going to win many games of footy when you get slaughtered in the middle like that.

Worst game in 5 years, flattered by the result.  Couldn’t give a rats effort by almost the whole squad.  Midfield insipid, petty pathetic.  Too many to mention that has underwhelming games.  Wtf happened to allow such dominance by a bunch of …. Letting Daniher look like a valuable player was a disgrace.

need to turn that around before next week.

Brayshaw, Viney and Langdon were extremely poor tonight.

Lost count the amount of times Viney and Brayshaw just completely coughed it up so easily.

Its tough when you lose the number 1 tap ruckman and an i50 contested marking beast and the competitions best down the line target and an intercept defender and your captain in the first few minutes.  That's 5 players you have to cover.

Take a look at the replay of that last 8 minutes in the 1st and tell me Max wouldnt have featured in every one of those scenarios.

After quarter time we regouped with our structure but still got belted in contested clearances from stoppages so always playing catch up. That Ashcroft kid can play jeepers.

It came off in part because Brisbane stopped.

Lever was trying to play like that all night but it became easier after the restart.

What could be better for an old dude with a bung foot than playing second ruck…

I give him 2 games before he breaks down. Can’t possibly be doing centre ruck work for half a game.

POINT WELL MADE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons had a number of points to make to themselves, their opponents and the VFL football world when they traveled up to the Gold Coast to take on the Southport Sharks in the 2022 Grand Final rematch at Fankhauser Reserve.  After living off the glory of an almost perfect premiership, the Demons stumbled after winning the opening four games of the season and have struggled in their recent northern state sojourns - their only loss in 2022 came at the hands of the Lions in Brisbane a

BLUES FREE FOOTY by George on the Outer

Long time supporters would be all too familiar with the call “free kick, Hawthorn”, as umpires seemed to gift certain teams an inordinate amount of free kicks in the game. Similarly, in the Melbourne v Carlton game a 22 to 13 free kick count, was grossly out of place given the dominance of Melbourne in just about every other statistic for the game.   However, for the Blues with only 4½ wins from their 12 games, their season is rapidly heading the same way as Hawthorn, despite all the help t

The Blues season is on the line and their captain and coach have been in the firing line all week. If the Dees cough this one up the media's crosshairs will do a 180 and will surely be directed at the Demons who have only won 13 games from their last 25 outings. This is a must win game for the Melbourne Football Club too.

WRITING ON THE WALL by Whispering Jack

The Narrm Football Club found a second way in the space of 12 months less a day to unexpectedly lose a home game against Walyalup on Saturday afternoon. The equivalent match of last year has been described as Melbourne’s “ground zero” of 2022 where things went wrong for the club after a long run of wins that included its 57 year drought-breaking premiership triumph. Unfortunately for the Demons, the 2023 version was a case of deja vu with the Dockers overcoming a half time deficit and runn
