Just remembered we have the swans next week, essentially being a reverse of our finals games last year. And we again have that fear as to which demons team will turn up next week, and injuries 😔

It's starting to feel like, despite moulding ourselves around contested ball, we just struggle really badly in more physical games. Some of our more highly rated players,  e.g. Petracca, just get massively fumbly in high intensity games.

I thought we were the 2nd best team in it last year and should have made the GF...but maybe we finished up where we belonged. We might just have caught a lucky break in 21 getting 3 teams in the finals that weren't playing really physical football. Who knows...but Sydney, just like Collingwood, are a terrible match up for us as they'll fight physically from start to end...and I'm not sure anymore that our guys are up to that kind of contest. Success in this sport is hugely aligned to your ability to apply and absorb physical pressure.

I honestly think today was a constant string of things that didn’t go our way. Salem, May, then Max. I also think the conditions worked against us, and worked really well for Brisbane. We are a much cleaner side than this usually.

Let’s not get sucked in by tonight. It’s been a rare one.

I agree with the points you made but quick fast ball movement will win games this year, our inside 50 entries are still a mess. We may have straightened things up but we’re kicking to congested areas.  Clear the fwd 50 a bit. Kosi a massive loss.

We actually barely warmed up when we came out...

Fingers crossed no injuries.

Thanks Webber.

FWIW I hear that this is the opposite knee to the one he has had recommended x2

That’s probably good, but doesn’t mean the ACL is safe. The incident itself looked innocuous enough as a ‘valgus’ force, meaning the inside of the knee was ‘stretched’. My immediate thought was medial ligament (MCL). There was however a bit of ‘external tibial rotation’ (foot fixed as knee rotates inwards), potentially implicating the ACL. Medial meniscal tears will also sometimes come with MCL tears. Patience is required.

How good is Friday night Footy?

And then the dees kicked 7 straight and won the game…

Will the siren work??!!

Only 12 more injuries in 12 minutes can top this day off.

Booing lions supporters. What great sports they all are.

Enjoy your backward music with your state of art electrical grid.

For every goal we kick, they need to kick 1.5+ goals for the recommencement to benefit them more than us.

No he's just been found out

Just go for goal ffs

We have certainly learned from this debacle, that "just kick it long" does NOT work.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
