Simple.

Jack Viney is an excellent midfielder.

Angus Brayshaw is an excellent anything.

Brayshaw is the more well rounded player/midfielder

Viney is the better fit

That's the most attacking combination. I loved it, because Kozzy can still defend and attack.

But you can only use that combination for short periods because Pickett is needed forward.Ā  Ā I'm talking more about the best midfield combination for the bulk of the game.Ā Ā

Oliver, Petracca plus any one of Viney, Brayshaw, Harmes.

Clarrie and Tracc are fixed.

That is all out attack setup not much defensive presence there.Ā

Come finals Viney is very important because defensively he’s the best of the lot. And he gives Trac and Clarry a lot of protection to get first use of the ball.

People really underestimate him.Ā

What I dont want is Ollie and Kozzie sitting on the bench at the bounce

Viney plays the defensive cog allowing Trac and Clarrie to hunt the ball knowing if the opposition get it they have to contend with Viney.Ā

This is like asking which one of your kids you love more.

Does anyone else often recall the first bounce of the 2021 Grand Final? Viney absolutely hammered into Jack McCrae and set a standard for the entire team for the rest of the day.Ā

Brayshaw is my favourite Dees player, but the mix of Gawn hitting it to a combination of Petracca, Oliver and Viney covers every possibility, and has excellence in every department.Ā

The fact that we can rotate Brayshaw, Kozzie, Harmes, Sparrow etc... through there as second-tier options is mind blowing.

Iput Brayshaw down as he is better at clearing the ball, Also Viney tends to get done for holding the ball more. Having said all this I would take either.

It's Oliver. Always Oliver. Sorry kids.

Fully agree- couldn’t say it any better ….but, I would like to see Sparrow get a better go, especially up against lesser teams, needs more action in the guts.( experience).

Nah, it's more difficult than that.

'Often' would be an understatement...

In other words, Viney does what Libba failed to do.

Very much so. šŸ˜‚

Oliver, Petracca and Kozzie will be our starting and best combination by years end. Mr Pickett is ready to absolutely explode as a playerĀ

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time atĀ Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: ā€œIs Melbourne even at the ground?ā€ Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.Ā
