Good to see our AFLW team do a Premiership lap of honour.  But disappointed that the applause wasn't what was deserved.

Yeah I'm with you. Was there any chance it could have been pre game?

Just finished the replay and have to recognize just what a good job Tomlinson did in May’s absence.  There will certainly be no need to rush him back prematurely.

It’s not hard. Last year Ben was getting 3 opponents

Last night he was free to run and cover ground

TMac played an effective team role. He will get better

Also TMac provided options all game but it wasn't his night to be on the receiving end. Next week could be.

Yep. I am not saying he wasn’t rusty. Clearly his marking was off kilter, but he gave Benny valuable space

Agree, his game was even better on replay.

Exactly. Hoping he'll be better for the hitout. No more T-mac bashing, as a matter of fact the next person to bag T-mac I WILL see in the car park for a little chat.

This was considered but it was decided that they’d rather stage it with more people present (at halftime) as opposed to people straggling in pre-game. The problem with that is while there’s definitely more ppl present at halftime, that doesn’t mean they’re paying attention or even in their seats.

I’m tempted to go against my very nature and roll out a little T-Mac bashing just to call your bluff, Layz. I reckon you’d be too layzie to show up. See what I did there. 🤪

Apart from those two turnovers and others that didn't find a target?  (watch the clip)

Generally, his disposal was good but it wasn't perfect.

Folks have talked about fitness but did you see Petracca flip off the ground, off his back onto his feet. Never seen that happen on the footy field. Now try doing that in the backyard. It is impossible for most of us,  it requires incredible strength and flexibility in the core.

Shame on those Dees fans who booed Sauce. He was delisted ffs.

WCW it only happened once and it was more tongue in cheek after the Dogs fans booed Hunter. I thought it was quite funny and the people around me did as well. There was definitely no malice in it and it didn't continue all night. Just a bit of theatrics, which is always part of the footy.

Has that unteachable ability for quick thought and skills to then execute with speed (and minimal error). Full respect to Jayden Hunt’s service to the Dees, McVee is a big upgrade.

Yep agreed - saw it was a muted response when they first came on so I deliberately went down to the fence to clap and shout support for them (in between interchange bench and the change rooms entry).  People were clapping politely but didn't really get on board cheering, which is a shame

People have to get used to the fact that we are not Pies or Tigers supporters. Dare I say it but we are more reserved.
I was in the southern stand which probably had the bulk of dogs supporters and I thought the response was good. The other element is the GF was a long time ago in a football sense. I suspect had it been the previous weekend the response would have been bigger. While on the subject of response I thought the attendance of Dees supporters was good we were approaching 35k of the 48. Had the dogs supporters got similar numbers it would have been 70k. To the commentators get off our backs it was the dogs who didn’t turn up. My pie friends were telling me after Friday night it is a nightmare getting home I am sure that had an effect as well. If had been May with all the negativity I would have stated home.

he is also more effective than JJ who always stops and props

Judd is a massive upgrade

After that beautiful feint/baulk on the boundary line (which was almost right below where i was sitting) I said to bloke i was sitting next to at the footy that he the trait of the really good players (albeit an awfully cliched one) - time.

Which now that i think about it is probably manifestation of quick thinking and perhaps also a level of calmness.

Might be cliché but you still can't teach it!

The crowd noise was pretty great the whole game, especially from the ordinarily reserved Dees fans... my comment was regarding how quiet the support for our AFLW premiers was during the half time lap.

Agree that the Bulldog supporters simply did not show up, but happy with the Dees numbers generally.

Hey I was only going to have a little chat with these offenders and ask them to be nicer! We can't have violence on a family program like this!

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
