I don't understand the use of signs like that, isn't it just telling the other team what you plan to do 🤪

Yes and I also don't get the infatuation from the commentators about them.

Hopefully tonight ends the calls by some in the media to completely scrap all practice games before the season starts.

Wowee.

But Carlton again choking in a close one. O'Brien made a massive mistake in their Round 22 loss to us last year and then tonight tears off down the wing when they're trying to ice the game, stuffs the bounce, then misses Mackay on the kick. And then Carlton unable to stop Lynch marking it.

Yeah beautiful wasnt it

A few takes

1 Crypts Loved by umps

2 Saad one way runner and NEVER picks up a man the other way and as for Jack Martin... what a dud

3 Shai Boltin should be dropped on that pathetic shot on goal

4 Both teams very avg but Rich very unlucky to lose

I usually say this in every close game as there is a chance for irony and comments like this from people like yourself!

But I know you want me to say yes so I'll say yes 😀

We kinda do, Azz. You’ve been on DL for 16 years fellah. You never noticed?

Actually, when we were crud the other games were barely talked about.

Many here were saying that they weren't watching other games mainly because it was so painful to watch our games (2012 - about 2015)

As we improved and became a top side, these threads became popular again.  Last year was probably the most popular for the 'Other games'

That would be why I never noticed it before, had a hiatus for a while as it was too hard to be on here.

So it is just 1 thread for all the games over the weekend except ours?

I fancied Carlton tonight and thought they would do well this season. Not so sure after that performance. Not so much the performance more so how they closed out the last 8/9 mins.
After losing so many close games last year in the closing minutes I thought Voss would have had them super well drilled and organised how to see out a game like that. Looks like they haven’t learnt their lessons from last season.

Yep and it's gone from maybe 3 pages in the godawful years to often 15+ pages these days

I suppose being a good team means less envy when watching the rivals play?  So we can easily watch the good teams (now) with a more discerning eye

I’ve only read the last 3 pages of this thread but I think you are all being pretty bloody harsh.
I thought it was a really good game with some great skills. I don’t watch many non Melbourne games but thought that was a ripper

I first noticed non-MFC game threads around 2017 or 2018 when we were actually pushing for finals for a change.

I'd say that's exactly it Macca. Hated watching any other games when we were at our lowest, watching all the draft picks around us shine while we destroyed the talent we got. Shudder just thinking about those days.

Losing a game of footy ruined the whole weekend and I just wanted to be in a dark room. I recall coming on here to chat about Grand Finals we weren't in but that was about it.

Bolton's shot on goal was terrible

O'Brien running down the boundary probably took to many bounces but McKay needed more support and not have 3 on him

Acres at the end. He just needed to take that mark & somehow get it through for even a point.

It was pathetic, he couldn't have been much worse than directly in front. Skills were shocking in this game and there wasn't a lot of good pure football play, just errors. A garbage game for two bin dipper clubs.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
