Where I find it harder to get around is that we know he is an integral and important part of our defence and if we make the change we have to replace him with Tomlinson (questionable although I’m a fan), Turner (1 AFL game of experience), J Smith (never played more than 4 games in a row due to injury and at any rate not a lockdown defender) or JVR (who hasn’t trained as a defender). So it’s doubly risky.

Taking Petty out of defence would certainly make it worse but it would still be excellent with May and Lever, with Gawn or Grundy dropping back. Our strong midfield and zoning means that our defence will always get an easy run as well.

Our defence was excellent before Petty came into the team.

🤔 overhandballing still is a slight concern. Yes it’s a practice match but the pressure comes in the real stuff. The extra handballs were ok yesterday but could be a problem under added pressure. Sometimes a kick to forward 50 or indeed “just kick the goal “ were needed.

Agree Stu, and the one that i noticed was short kick out followed by very fast play on from 30 out with the whole ground at your disposal. Looked so simple.

That’s true. But my thinking is that Laurie needs to dominate VFL football first. He hasn’t shown enough to warrant the promotion.

Jordon looks to have been squeezed out by Hunter’s arrival and the want to push Kossie through the middle.

BB wasn’t quite on his game but he was still able to draw a number of free kicks. He’ll be better for the outing and will start round 1 and play all the big games. Reckon 15-17 H&A games from him is as much as we should expect. JVR will get his chance this year, no need to push it

Not sure he should have licence to kick for goal from that range especially when there is a breeze.  The ball floats off line or tapers off at the end.  At least one of the two was a point.  If he doesn't have the distance he should aim for the top of the goal square.

He could learn from Spargo who always looks for a closer target when he is that far out.  Spargo knows his limitations and plays to his strengths.

I don't know about that, i think this young bloke can hoof it, and i wouldn't try to diminish his enthusiasm too much.

I would think he will be told soon enough as required..

Richmond could not find a way through defensive coverage and related defensive pressure, plus the extraordinary ground coverage by the Dees' backmen, the midfielders and the opportunistic hunger of the forwards (smaller blokes, in particular). By attempting to get 'dirty' in response, they exposed themselves as 'the not so tough' and mostly, were again brushed aside by the Dees' mix of mobile muscle and brawn. This was an absolute delight to watch at the ground; those who could not attend really missed some enigmatic moments of Dee-resolve. Phabulous!

Sensible, too. Our excellent midfield three would otherwise be subject to injuries, small and team-destroying. Physical tiredness leads directly to an ability to get caught by opposition(s) and be hammered; or, such consequences aptly being avoided by finding that extra yard of space ... with contactless interferences.

Was on Dusty most of the game and kept him quiet which is a giant win. I think they gave him a purely defensive role this week to see how he goes against arguably one of the scariest players you’ll ever find yourself pinned against in a one on one situation. 
Kept his cool and did a really good job. 
He might just be our next Jetta/Hibbo!
