With both Tim English and JUH coming out of contract next year and the huge cap squeeze they will undoubtedly had. Which one do you chase? I dont think either qualify for FA, so it will be a Jackson scenario.

Who do the Doggies chose as i think they will need to make a choice. English is a versatile ruck/forward, who will probably take over the ruck domination when Gawn retires. I cant see many challenging for the AA ruck position for the next 3-4 years.

JUH on the other hand has really been underwhelming. Perhaps he isn't suited to playing in the same forward line as Naughton ? Or he was just overrated. I think he is the better target to chase as the Doggies do have a excess of KPF stocks.

So it'll be JUH, Ben King, Cadman all potentially uncontracted after 2024. We should be lining up to land one of these prospects.

English will be a RFA

Possibly the steak knives from another deal perhaps  ?

That's probably unlikely, as then it would all have just happened, rather than him coming out and asking for a trade.

It isn't a trade rumour but does fit the broad topic of 'pre-draft shenanigans'

Looks like Riak Andrew will be falling outside the pick 40 range and eligible as an NGA selection for us.

Skinny, 192cm. I've seen him listed as both forward and defender. Does anyone have more info? Does this mean we'll want to keep a pick 80 in reserve to grab him?

Speaking of NGA, is there any possibility that Gold Coast will decide they've done enough with Walter and Rogers, and might not match a bit for Ethan Read, this drafts designated 'ruck who competes at ground level' type?

I was thinking ...what we will possibly offer Lions.. as probably wont be bucket loads might be something we acquire after an other trade.( not with Bris )

I heard yesterday that we weren't even talking with Naughton's management. So not sure where that rumor started. I believe the interested clubs that ultimately led to his extension were Collingwood, Geelong, West Coast and Sydney. Sydney reportedly put in an offer of $11M-$12M for 10 years for his services. That is crazy.

Its the ol club needs x, link said club to every player in taht category you can.

I was thinking of doing the same, for example Dees are in talks with OOC forward or player with one year left for a massive deal..... It really isn't rocket science.

You can spot the fake ones pretty quickly, like Larkey (who has just signed a massive contract with Norf, was never moving) or Allen (who is the next big thing at the Eagles and wont move for less than two high first rounders which no club has).

Really like this move. Exactly the right fit for us. Cheap, young, developing forward/ruck.

No expectations of him being a world beater, but can't be any worse than both Jackson and Grundy have been as forwards for us over the past 2 seasons.

Thankfully there'll be no fan or media scrutiny if he's playing at Casey.

Taylor Adams to Sydney has just been dropped by Tommy Morris on Trade radio....

Hats off to @goodwindees for dropping the rumor first....

We've obviously been talking with him...has the hallmarks of JT and his band of spies 😉

Wonder who else is on the radar ??

Well..  that's  a need filled ( possibly)

How's Jimmy Jordon feeling?

Himself, potentially Adams and Dow moving over to an already pretty deep midfield

Thats an interesting point.

I wonder if the Swans will move on some excess....

The guy is a beast. Dropped two legit rumours/facts well before even the best journos caught wind of it.

was thinking the same.  they have decent wingers too.  Hope he's on the sub again, poor bloke.

Although not too late to change his mind?

Sounds like JUH is about to be signed on a 4-5 year deal too. Would be interesting to see if English now sticks around. He would have to take significant unders for the Dogs to remain in the salary cap. It is also probably a sign that they are not going to try solve their defensive KP woes anytime soon.

Just texted my Collingwood mates:

VC jumping ship I see. Pies imploding, was bound to happen

Bring back Bucks as head Coach to settle things down?

Wonder if Josh Sinn could be on the move to help Port facilitate their moves? Speedy half back and goof left foot kick. Could release Rivers to the midfield.

Thoughts on Bonner instead as a delisted FA?

Sydney starting to smell like Geelong.

How on earth have they got the money to pay all these guys?

Apparently Rhys "Beastmode" Mathieson is leaving the Brisbane Lions due to lack of opportunities.

Is he worth a punt?

I know he is quite an annoying and obnoxious bugger when he has played against the Demons. But he could be ideal midfield depth perhaps?

I totally agree! 😎👍

Would love the Demons to try and have a crack at Josh Sinn!

He would be the ideal replacement for Michael Hibberd too!

Would certainly add depth cheaply. Haven't looked at him closely enough to form a strong opinion on his game.

Does anyone have an update on list spots?

By my calcs so far it is probable that:

Out - D Smith, M Hibberd, B Grundy, J Jordon, L Dunstan & J Harmes

In - S McAdam, T Fullarton

Leaves 4 spots with the potential to upgrade Daniel Turner from the rookie list?

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front.  They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
